The Walking Dead; 2.06 "Secrets" (open spoilers)

So can the walkers run or not? Such an annoying inconsistency.

I hated this episode. The only good part was the pharmacy walker sequence. What the hell is with the not-so-subtle anti-abortion editorializing an the part of the writers?

I think they can when they are fresher. We’ve seen them move that fast before. Once they break down they become walkers, then shufflers, then crawlers etc…

They follow Romero zombie rules, which means they can move at something resembling jogging speed and use simple tools.

No kidding in the situation they are currently I dont even see how termination is a debate.

I also scoffed at Lori not wanting to teach Carl how to use a gun. “He has already been shot once” . God damn lady almost every person you know has been eaten by zombies maybe its time to teach your kid to protect himself.

Yeah, seriously. Maybe if you teach your son how to shoot and handle a gun he won’t walk around with one stuffed inside his pants where it might go off any minute and blast his tiny little dingaling into bits.

Soooo… since Rick was clearly surprised and did not know about the pregnancy, what exactly DID the CDC doc whisper in his ear?

Honestly, it seems that the last 4 episodes or so have been the exact same:

1.) Wake up on the farm.
2.) Leave farm to search for Sofia or get supplies.
3.) BOO! Zombie gonna eat ya!
4.) Kill zombie.
5.) Return to farm.

It is getting a bit boring. I had honestly hoped that last week’s reveal of the contents of the barn was going to immediately open this episode with the zombies breaking out and total chaos and a fight then dash from the farm for survival. Nope… see steps 1-5 above.

The current leading theory:

In the comic books everyone comes back from the dead as a zombie regardless of how they died (brain trauma excluded) because everyone in the world is infected, so he probably told Rick that.

Hasn’t Hershel and his family ever SEEN zombies attack and eat other humans? Is he unaware, or in denial? When Shane and Otis went to the medical place to get equipment, didn’t Shane’s report make any impact? They’re dangerous monsters, not humans suffering from a disease that may be cured. I can SORT of understand his keeping his zombie kinfolk locked up in the barn, but I notice they ARE kept locked up and he doesn’t go in to try to have a conversation with his zombie wife. Very weird. Was that the first time Maggie was attacked by a zombie, in the pharmacy? And she was surprised? This was the ickiest feeling I brought away from viewing last night’s show, that disconnect between reality and wishful thinking…

In this episode we learn that women get super horny after seeing zombies killed.

Dunno if it’s weird of me to think this when people are dying and rotting all over the place but the chicken leg break scene was probably the most disturbing part of this entire season, maybe even the series. Ouch ouch ouch! My tibia feels weak.

I think it might well be the first time she’s been in serious danger from them. After the incident she referred to them as “walkers” to Glenn, when she took him to task for that earlier. Hershcel strikes me as a man in deep mourning and denial about the situation. His location has protected him from the worst of it and he likely locked up everyone as soon as they showed signs. At that point they would appear to be crazed, but normal sick people. He is just denying reality at this point.

At this point, so many things are soooo different from the comic, it seems they are just using the main plotline and some of the main sub-plots.

Characters and their interactions with each other are all wacky compared to this point in the comics.

It is so different, that I don’t even consider them the same thing.

Which I like.

Also, I think someone asked a while back that we leave comic spoilers/main story spoilers out of these threads.

I wasn’t aware, but the e-mails people get if they are subscribed to the thread show the spoiler, regardless.

I thought this was pretty mediocre. How many times are they going to go off, let down their guards, and suddenly be set upon by Zombies? Could Glen and the Farm Chick possibly go any slower on their horses? And how dumb does Lori have to be to leave all those Morning After pill boxes right out in the open in her tent.

Still, there was some good stuff. Shane’s verbal smack-down of grandpa was nice, and the post Zombie killing sex was good, even though I was calling for Dwayne to get lucky with Andrea. Missed that.

Dwayne? You mean Daryl? Cause I’m betting on him and Carol (Sophia’s mom).

Andrea and Shane has been setup since they were all flirty outside the church a few episodes back, in my opinion.

I am also thinking Daryl and Carol. She seems smitten with our reluctant hero/redneck.

I liked the interaction with Andrea and Daryl after he was shot in the head. Like that character more and more.

Maggie’s actions still make no sense - when we met her, she casually took out a zombie with a ball bat from horseback - she knows they are dangerous.

Of course, mommazombie is always gonna hold a special place in her heart.

As for her reaction to the “abortion pills” - I didn’t see that as commentary on anything other than Maggie having been raised by Herschel - bible believing - in a closed community. She was also still reeling after having been attacked.

Seems to me that the basement/garage of that house had trapped zombies that actually finally ‘died’ (decomposed enough that they were no longer among the mostly dead) - but seriously, you really think you need to spend more than about 2 seconds walking in that area to determine that Sophia “is not” there? now, if you’re on a scavenging mission, maybe - but it would take about 5 seconds to clear each house otherwise.

:smack: Yes, Daryl. After last nights ep, I’m switching to team Carol, too, for him.

Inthewater: I agree about the Church scene being the set-up. I was predicting the Daryl/Andrea hook-up based on actions from quite a few episodes ago, but I obviously got it wrong.

Oh definitely, their walk in the woods seemed to be heading that way.

Everyone wants to nail Andrea, it seems.

Andrea Levels Up!

+5 Small Arms
+5 Concentration
+10 Confidence
+5 Charisma

Gains “HEADSHOT!” Achievement.
Some of these zombie encounters are clearly for making sure every episode has a zombie encounter. Hey, let’s put this zombie in a well. Hey, let’s put a zombie in those bushes deep in the forest. Hey, let’s put a zombie in the same drug store Maggie and Glenn previously had sex in with no interruption. Hey, let’s send Shane and Andrea exploring through a house full of corpses, after it quickly became clear that there was no way Sophia had hid there, and unleash a small horde of walkers out of nowhere.

Bolding mine. Please explain.

ETA: Confused about who’s mentally ill.
