The Walking Dead; 2.13 "Beside the Dying Fire" SEASON FINALE (open spoilers)

Who said she was near the prison? All they showed was Andrea running through the woods killing zombies.

Yeah… that sounds like an awesome idea, until you consider the already bumpy terrain strewn with moving obstacles and the terrified teenaged driver. Personally, I’d rather run through a herd of zombies than be flung into one at high speed.

Andrea sure has come a long way. I’m not sure that I’d have the will to run for hours in what seems a hopeless situation, even if I hadn’t been suicidal just a few weeks before.

I really, really don’t get the “Why didn’t they know about the prison?!?!?” complaints. Who says they didn’t? A prison would be the last goddamned place on earth that I’d head for during the zombie apocalypse if I had a group of ten, only five of whom are good for much. I’d assume that the place would be jam-packed with fucking zombies, and they have neither the manpower nor the firepower to safely clear it out.

Anyway, I loved it, except for the campout at the end, which was both stupidly emotionally overwrought and just plan stupid. Hey, there’s a herd of zombies walking these woods… let’s light a fire and make a bunch of noise! Good times.

So funny (to me) story while watching the episode last night.

<Helicopter flys over the city of Atlanta(?) and zombies follow it>

Girlfriend: Who is in the helicopter?
MeanJoe: The survivors from The Monroeville Mall.
Girlfriend: <gives me the look that tells me she has no idea what I’m talking about>

Ah well, I love her. Faults and all.

I want to obsess over these armless zombie pets for a sec.

Yes, they’re chained up but can’t they still snap and bite? Or did this Michonne go Herbie the Dentist Elf on 'em and render them toothless as well? Wouldn’t they then try to suck relentlessly upon the living? Seems like a determined zombie could extract an eyeball, at the minimum, this way.

I wondered the same. Of course, she seemed to be wearing enough clothing to ward off the occasional bite given that they can’t hold on to her, but still… what are they FOR???

I don’t know anything about her, but she seemed to have some sort of control over them. I hesitate to say power because even though I know we’re all watching a zombie show, I’m really hoping they don’t go supernatural on us.

They’re jawless.

Also, comic spoilers (mild),

they knew her in life, and with their primitive zombie intellect consider her one of them.

Worse than that. The sun had just set when they went looking for Randall. Either they spend most of the night wandering around in the woods or it was still pretty early when the zombie attack happened.

Zombie battle takes 10 minutes and then everybody spends the entire night driving away, to end up at the traffic accident that was close enough for them that they walked to the farm from there at the beginning of the season. Figure 6-8 hours minimum of panicked driving to end up no more than a few miles from the farm.

This is why it is interesting to learn that Andrea is apparently an endurance athlete, since she maintained her pace over back country from the time of the zombie attack to near sundown the next evening. 16 hours, conservatively, of running, with no ability to stop (though apparently when she does stop for a moment this just causes the zombies to slow down since it would ruin the show if they actually caught up to her)..

No real way of knowing how long they drove after leaving the accident since we didn’t see any indication of time of day or how long they spent getting organized. But one would hope that it was long enough to explain why Hershel and family don’t appear to have any clue about where they are or the surroundings.

But… but… WHAT FOR??? PM me if you don’t want to put big spoilers in the thread. I MUST KNOW!!!
Also, while I can get behind the calls for Lori’s death, let’s not forget Carol. Seriously, how profoundly useless is that bitch?

When watching the scene where Rick spills his guts (not literally) to Lori, my wife and I both found her response to be perplexing.

When we watched the show, we thought the revelation there was that Lori had turned to Team Shane. After urging Rick to finish him off, and seeing Rick still fail to act, Lori had decided her life and her children’s lives were better protected by Shane. So, she went to Shane and told him in effect that they could be together again like the big happy family they were before Rick showed up. Then, when Rick wins the big fight, she recoils from him because the wrong guy won the duel.

For a brief shining moment, I liked Lori as a character. While she still did amazingly stupid things (lose track of her son for the 47th consecutive day; go out alone to rescue two men who had gone out to rescue someone else, etc.), she wasn’t a waste. She had a brain that she could put to use. The stupidity of that conversation with Shane wasn’t stupidity! It was cold, calculating Lady-MacBethian manipulation. Regardless of whether she was right or not (I’d say not), that was a big-league play. Almost up to the standards of AMC’s flagship shows Breaking Bad and Mad Men.

Then, unfortunately, I watched Talking Dead after the show. It appeared that the creators of the show weren’t going that way at all. Lori was still on Team Rick. She was just upset about Rick killing Shane so cold-bloodedly. In the end then, Lori is incredibly stupid. I mean, why have that little morale-boosting chat with Shane at the Zombie Watchpost Platform? What did she think he was going to do once she told him that she still had a thing for him? If you cared about Rick at all, why put him directly in the sights of Shane?

And, when Rick tells you what happened, why does Lori react that way? Shouldn’t she sympathize with him a little and congratulate herself (silently) for the problem now being resolved and that she got her man? Or, maybe show the guilt at the sudden realization that she screwed up and nearly got Rick killed. Instead, it’s bad direction and bad acting.

I like this show, and really liked the last few episodes quite a bit. But Lori as a character and actress is just awful.

Whenever I see Carol I always think of this minor recurring joke from Family Guy. Also, are they trying to set her and Darryl up to get together, cause they’re sure taking they’re damn time with it. They’ve been ‘making eyes’ at each other for quite a while now.

I think it’s because Carol keeps telling him he’s a good man, and as a poor abused man-child, he ain’t buying it. But he let her ride on his motorcycle! I bet when he asks her if she likes him, he’ll include “yes” and “no” checkboxes. :stuck_out_tongue:

Darryl: Do you like me?
Carol: Like or like like?

Don’t know the comics, but based on previous gambits of smearing zombie goo all over and being ‘invisible’ to the zombies, I’d think being surrounded by docile (for zombies) zombies would keep other zombies from attacking. Kind of a zombie cloaking device.

Let me know if you find out, please.

The guy who writes the Entertainment Weekly recaps isn’t hopeful about improvements in the show. The ratings are extremely good, so the writers won’t see any reason to change things up. Why mess with success?

I’ll keep watching, but it’s kinda like watching the proverbial train wreck. What stupid things will these people do next? The only characters I care about are Darryl and Herschel.

Regarding the timeline, we’ve gone from stinkin’ hot summer to chilly fall or winter. That’s got to be several months.

I guess it’s kinda silly to expect high quality television writing and plot from a show that has so much dorky comic writer thought processes running through it. Their primary concern seems to be “Will this look cool?”

So the dialogue can be completely laughable and the character’s reactions can be nonsensical, but it’s okay because they totally lingered on Jimmy screaming and getting torn into bloody shreds. Radical!

Oh, and biology question: just how soft and pliable would a corpse’s skull actually be? Because skinny Andrea pulping a walker’s temple with one whack from the butt of her pistol seems a bit much.

Edit: Don’t read about her relationships. I found a big spoiler about someone eventually dying (although the TV show may not go that route).
