The Walking Dead; 3.06 "Hounded" (open spoilers)

Considering the distance and Rick’s perspective, it just seemed very unlikely to me that he would even see the basket. It seemed almost immediate.
mmm

ETA: I re-read my other post; my basket reference was poorly worded.

After what happened with Lori, what do you think the chances are of coming back and finding them intact at all? We’re apparently supposed to believe that one Walker completely devoured Lori (or perhaps there were more, but they didn’t eat enough so they couldn’t shuffle away again) including her bones, hair and clothing. You’d think guys left out in the open woods would be lunchmeat way faster. It’s a shock anyone ever turns!

Dude, have you people seen pictures of what Wal-Mart or 7-11 looks like right before a hurricane or whatnot are expected to hit? That’s not even apocalypse shopping, that’s just “as many supplies as we can get to last us til the power’s back” shopping.

Not lately!

The talk about the soldiers seems to be missing a few points. The “large group of heavily armed soldiers” was actually 7 people. The pilot told the Gov that 10 escaped and 3 died in the crash. They had a safe camp and everything was great for a while, but someone got bitten and turned inside. Panic swept the people, the gate was opened and the camp fell. After they fled they got stuck in traffic and went up in the chopper to scout ahead.

So, they had helped secure a camp (without taking it over and ruling everyone with an iron fist) but the civilians screwed up and they were looking for a new safe place to live. The notion that they were a clear threat that might wipe out the town, take all the supplies and rape everyone in sight is speculation that doesn’t jive with the story. It’s pretty obvious to me that he killed them not because he thought they were a threat but because he wanted their stuff.

Ahh, okay, thanks. I hadn’t thought about the zombies partaking of the fresh kill.

They sure partook the hell out of T-dog.

What was left was barely a T-dogleg.

I think they only left the “T” (maybe just a “t”).

In the end all the people who mistakenly called him T-bone turned out to be right.

My evidence is that in a zombie apocalypse, anti-zombie security has to be priority #1. And a squad of well-equipped National Guardsmen would be ideal for providing that security, and have other useful attributes, such as discipline and following orders.

Woodbury is nice, yes, but it would be even nicer with the sudden infusion of 7 trained soldiers.

As Fubaya noted in post #164, the squad was on the road due to the fall of their safe haven. I have to assume that a resident died of natural causes and rose as a walker, otherwise what was described seems unlikely. If you were unaware of the spontaneous reanimation, then you might describe it as the pilot did, as “someone must have gotten bitten somehow” or similar.

In that case, the reason I didn’t assume the phone call was a delusion was because I don’t know enough about how phones work.

I agree, trial memberships would be the way to go. I wouldn’t ask the Guard to surrender their weapons, though, because they would almost certainly refuse, and with good reason: no one able to wield a weapon responsibly should ever be disarmed in a zombie apocalypse. If everyone is armed, that’s how you avoid mass outbreaks from a single zombie, like the pilot described.

Bingo. Long term survival demands agriculture, and agriculture demands a lot of labor. The dispute about taking in new people, or just protecting your existing shelter, I think is down to a fundamental disagreement over priorities. If waking up alive tomorrow is the key to life, then yes, kill anyone suspicious. If waking up alive in two years is the key, then you have to have a group that can work together on large-scale projects like enclosing farmland. Otherwise, once the canned food is all gone, we all die out.

A veritable epitaph of Solomon.

WRT the phones, doesn’t Hershel pick up the phone at some point and kinda give Rick the eyeball? Because wouldn’t there be a dial tone if the phone was working? That’s actually what made me start to question whether the calls were a hallucination: usually in TV there’s a big ol’ dial tone sound when someone gets hung up on.

Yeah, he did. He knew Rick was hallucinating, but there was nothing he could do except let it go and hope Rick would come out of it.

First thing I thought of too when Herschel picked up the phone.

I was waiting for the cut away to Herschel telling the rest of the group:
Uhm, bad news everyone, our fearless leader Rick has officially lost the plot

Great shot kid, that was one in a million!

So I watched The Talking Dead for the first time*. Only because when I looked over at the TV I saw Sarah Silverman. Wow, I don’t think I’ll watch that again.

I’ve watched a few and I agree about the lack of content and the many commercials. However, I just discovered the Bonus Talking Dead episodes on AMC.com and they are great. No commercials and lots of questions and comments. Check out the one with Sarah Silverman.

Working my way through the thread. Any opinions on why walkers walked past her and then all of a sudden showed interest again?

If that was already addressed, I’m sorry.

Was she eating Matt Damon?

Which one was that?

That was Bonus Episode 3x6, the episode we’re discussing here.

My 2 cents on Nat’l Guard. If it were any “normal” group like Rick’s I believe they would welcome the Guard with open arms for their expertise and weaponry. They would be excellent sources of training your people as well.

Woodbury, however, has the Governor in charge and he’s just not all there. His only desire is to remain in control and silence all opposition. He knew the Guard would not have agreed to have him order them around. He is after all only a civilian and they would know better how to protect and structure the group for the best chance of survival.

As far as Michonne goes, his paranoia was at least true about her. She’s already killed 3 of his soldiers so who knows what she might do next?
