The Walking Dead; 3.12 "Clear" (open spoilers)

…just watched the episode now. (Amazing NZ are now getting episodes days after the States!)

Was I the only one who thought they had entered Ravenholm and were being shot at by Father Grigori?

“Do injustice to those who do injustice to me, fight with those who fight with me!”

As others have pointed out, that bag of guns has had quite the journey. Not quite half were given to the Vatos. On the farm the guns were again gathered up and put in the bag (Dale tried to hide it from Shane), but were redistributed by Shane just in time for Barnageddon. After that, Hershel came around and was no longer opposed to the group having gun, so they remained mostly distributed, but there were still some in the bag (or bullets, at least). Andrea had this bag with her as she fled the farm, and kept it all winter. It is now in the possession of the Governor in his apartment in Woodbury.

That was my first thought when Rick, Carl, and Michonne meet up again. Rick has 2 or 3 bags and hands one to Michonne – not nearly enough. But then when they have that bonding moment by the car, Michonne has the new crossbow, which neither had before, and the car is quite full, so I think they took multiple trips. Morgan even said at one point that they could take whatever, so they could take their time instead of doing a grab-and-dash.

There were two weird edits in this episode: The whole Michonne gets the photo in 15 second thing and earlier when they tried the door and then quickly cut to Carl and Michonne walking away. Seed like a scene was lost there.

Regarding the Bag of Guns from the Pilot episode: the Governor has those guns. They have shown the bag several times in Woodbury but never made a big deal about it.

A deleted scene on the DVD shows the Senior center in that episode was overrun and looted by people not Zombies and the fact that the same bag of guns is in Woodbury reveals who did it.

Interesting. Couldn’t it also mean that the prop people are just re-using the bag?

Thought this was weird too. We were watching it on demand and I thought maybe it had skipped forward on accident.

Very possible.

Yep, that made for some odd viewing. Maybe the editors were the same ones who do True Blood, and they figured Michonne was a vampire.

The scrabble for guns, especially “that one bag of guns,” is just fingernails-on-a-blackboard irritating. There should be more guns around than rotting skulls. World goes to hell; every survivor goes for any gun they can find, right? The survivor dies; where does the gun go? Right at their feet. Another survivor finds it, dies; where does the gun go? At their feet.

Short of those dropped in rivers or off cliffs, every gun that existed on Z-day should still exist, for a drastically smaller population of those able to use them, and should be laying right wherever it was dropped. Wipe off a little ooze and gore, and start pulling the trigger again.

But nooooo. Apparently guns vanish like the ones in FPS games. RRRRRrrrgghhhhhh.

The way I read the scene was that she had Carl stay at the door, not to protect him, but to distract the walkers, so she could just sneak in and grab the pic and her awful statue using her stealthy ninja powers. It did still seem too fast, but that’s TV. Better to spend more time on Rick and Morgan than Carl just standing there doing not much, I guess.

What bugged me about the ninja photo grab by Michonne was the fact that she must have used a back door. Well, if there were a back door why didn’t they flee through it when the were being attacked by the walkers coming from the front?

Also noticed the odd jump-cut editing a few minutes earlier. Thought my TIVo had jumped ahead, but no, it was there.

They need to get a better product placement deal than Hyundai. That little green hatchback is not the right tool. In one of the street scenes near Morgan’s fortress, there as an old-school early-70s Toyota Landcruiser parked on the street. It’s the same one that Morgan used in Episode 1 when he and Rick were departing (separately) from the police station. Let’s see. 4WD, simple carb’d engine so it’s easy to repair, more cargo space, super tough and durable. Hmm, yeah, let’s not take that.

Still though, good episode plot-wise.

They need a Nissan Versa, driven by a plucky Japanese man who can stop time.

Then replace it with a Nissan Rogue that keeps getting stolen and winding up in the hands of other characters?

I really wish they wouldn’t spoil their own show. When they showed Rick talking on the walkie-talkie in the “Previously on the Walking Dead” segment and then in the preview for the episode showed some mysterious unidentified figure…I just turned it off. Obviously I did eventually turn it back on and watch it…but it really pissed me off.

It pissed me off too, (although not enough to turn the show off).

Short of doing away with “previously on” segments altogether, there’s not really any way to avoid these kinds of spoilers.

Previously on Badge Patrol:

“Gosh, Sarge, I hope nobody finds out about the mysterious envelope.”

  • obviously the mysterious envelope is going to play a role in the upcoming episode.

I guarantee you if they hadn’t done it a good 75% of the watchers wouldn’t have known who the hell he was.

No. There is a very clear path that the guns have taken. Firstly, Rick only gave about half of the guns to the Vatos, he kept the bag with the other half of the guns inside it. This is the same bag we see Dale try to hide from Shane in the swamp. After fleeing the farm, Andrea is seen with the bag with what seems to be at least one gun in it, just before she passes out in front of Michonne. In 3x03, the bag is again seen being carried by one of Michonne’s zombie “pets” as they approach the downed helicopter. At the helicopter, Michonne and Andrea are captured and the Governor takes all their weapons. That’s why the bag is seen at Woodbury – it’s the same bag, and the Governor took it from Andrea.
