I’m hoping that the Governor’s “Zombie Lake” idea will come back to bite him (in the most literal sense imaginable), hopefully very soon. I’m tired of the character!
I’m fine with the two ladies (can’t think of names right now) and the little girl getting incorporated into Rick’s group somehow. They need more characters, and I’m not sure if there is anything left of the “Woodbury” folk at this point. (I need to re-watch a few episodes to jog my faltering memory.)
I thought that ‘mud pit’ was some sort of intentional blockage of the road - perhaps the silent killing group took out the roads to trap the others. At the time I figured that the ‘governor’ saw that, realized he couldn’t run away from the violence, and that’s when he decided to go back and fight. And when he fights, he fights dirty, so the first thing he had to do was to A) get rid of the incompetent leader who wanted to ‘share power’, then B) kill the guy who was too nice to get the job done.
But then I remembered this is the Walking Dead, and I’m probably over-thinking it. The mud pit was probably there because some writer thought, “Hey! Mud zombies!”
The main thing that baffled me is why Martinez would want to reconcile with the Gov, let alone share power with him. Realistically he should’ve detained and/or killed him immediately, but let’s say he’s a saint in disguise or just didn’t care about the Gov’s insanity fueled murder spree. Why would Martinez let the Gov roam around camp without an escort? Or see him privately without guards? Without anyone within shouting distance?
I got the impression the Gov wasn’t thrilled with how Martinez and the girl’s mother were interacting at lunch. I thought a large motivation for offing Martinez on the roof was simple jealousy.
No one saw or heard all that commotion? Didn’t hear Martinez screaming as he got pulled into the pit? How in the world did they stumble upon the Gov and the girl in the pit in the first place if they can’t hear a man screaming? And why were there more zombies in the pit? Didn’t the Gov kill them all? Or is it another zombie pit?
And if they can find time to dig multiple, deep, perfectly rectangular pits, howzabout digging some trenches around the camp for protection?
