Something like, “It was us. The people before us, they didn’t panic - it was us.” It sounds to me (thanks to my husband’s explanations) that he meant the town was held by people before this current group, the current group took it from them somehow, and they are a bunch of cowardly assholes who always look after themselves and leave other people for dead and do stupid things that get other people killed.
Frakking Fuckwit Gabriel - after Glen is finished killing The Asshole Who Saved Himself Twice and Left Other People To Die (in future just known as The Turncoat Asshole or TTA), his next target is Fuckwit Gabriel (although he might have to armwrestle Rick for the pleasure).
I’m really hoping the finale has a scene where Father Gabriel get’s stripped of his vestments and crucified, then just left there as zombie.

Ah, okay. So, what Aiden was saying was he and Nicholas survived because they didn’t panic, and they did follow procedure, and the four who died did panic?
Aidan was confessing that he and Nicholas left the others to die, whether from simple panic or outright Gabriel-level perfidy.
No, the opposite. The four died because he and Aiden panicked. Nicholas and Aiden lied to explain the four deaths. When Nicholas said that to Aiden he was explaining why he was about to bolt and abandon his brother. Then Aiden admitted to Glenn the same thing, out of respect for Glenn’a obvious integrity and abilities.
That makes sense - we’ve seen that Aiden and Nicholas are most definitely complete and utter assholes who aren’t getting what this world is about.
