The Walking Dead; 6.08 "Start to Finish" (open spoilers)

Gagging him would have been more effective.

Tiny Tim did a well known cover of Tiptoe Through the Tulips, but the version played in the episode was the 1929 original, by Nick Lucas.

She is the only Doc, and I think one of the girls has a relationship of sorts with her.

Nope, should have left him in that little safe room, and told him they’d be back. Now I think the Mom is gonna end up killing him, bit of forshadowing with her holstering her pistol.

Good call!

The best part of this ep was the ants eating the cookie in the first few minutes.

So, any comment from the people who said, a few weeks ago, that it was definitely Glenn’s voice saying “help” on the radio?

Agreed. Especially for a mid-season finale.

Running remains the number one threat for women in the apocalypse. They simply can’t do it and remain upright.

What happened to the tall older guy that was helping Rick fix the fence last episode? Last we saw him Tara and Rosita helped him up and they were all running away together, then he disappeared.

Because that would make too much sense.

On the Talking dead said it was Eugene.

The show is torn between its pretensions of cold nihilism, and its CBS-esque commitment to tired old tropes, stock characters, and plot formulas. The CBS side won out this season, so far.

The AV Club has been on fire with their TWD reviews:

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen a show that stacks the deck so much in favor of its “hero” and its sophomoric philosophical ideas.

It was shown in the episode as Eugene looked at the approaching walkers - heard the radio that was on the ground (Daryl’s voice, I think) and he meekly said “help” into it.

maybe he thought he was calling in an airstrike or something.

Later - he nimbly picks a deadbolt with a paper clip -

The doctor is an extra-big idiot and I yelled at her last night (she didn’t hear a word, bloody typical).

She is one of the most important members of the community and should be taught to fight both walkers and humans. This is a necessary skill in this world, and someone won’t always be around to take care of you (and if they are, they’re likely to do stupid shit).

Why didn’t she make sure the pet Wolf was restrained in a way that would make it impossible for him to attack anyone? She did psych, so she should know that someone can get really nutty and violent, quick. Four-point restraints (using chains), plus handcuffs.

And then I would’ve “treated” the Wolf (not wasting real medicine on the guy, are you kidding?) and strolled over to tell Rick, Carol, Michonne, hell even CORL. Someone who isn’t a moron about the sanctity of life in that world.

I have general thoughts on the episode, but the whole wolf thing really ticked me off, as did the total passiveness (passivity?) of the doctor. Grow a spine!

Which makes it unlikely that the kid would have a 45 rpm recording of it. What kid even has a vinyl record player anyway?

It was the best episode since Nick and Glenn fell down, but clearly not as great as the last good run the show had in Terminus. Carl vs Ron was entertaining.

Anyway, I voted Loved It because everyone except Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham had stuff to do or say (did I miss Spencer?) and there was finally tension and real fear of death with The Lone Wolf and the walkers invading Alexandria.

I was disappointed that the Alexandria “plot” STILL is going on. I was hoping the place would be overtaken last night, and we could move on. The people were never a threat to Rick’s group, Deanna never threw her weight around, and there was no deep, dark secret besides Jesse’s husband being an abuser. All the red herrings (like taping the interviews, secret conversations, etc) and distrust were a waste of time. Rick took over the town too easily. Waaay too much time spent here. I was never invested with ANYONE from Alexandria, so I am rooting for the walkers to feast upon their flesh.

The coming attraction with Daryl vs the bikers is so much more intriguing and scary.

Loved Sam’s music- thanks for the link.

Pretty pathetic that Morgan and Carol had to duke it out over the wolf scum. This needs to be nipped in the bud quickly.

Regarding the “deep philosophy” of the show of Rick always being the correct and justified hero or whatever, well it is Rick’s story. The whole thing has pretty much been from his POV from the beginning. He was weak when Shane was around, and after Lori died, but came into his own as a strong but fair leader after those guys tried to rape Carl. He’s a major reason why I watch the show.

My only gripe is that there were hints that his crew was going to rebel against him last season but it was dropped. I’d like for Abraham, Glenn, Daryl, Carol or Michonne to question him more, but I don’t necessarily agree with AV Club’s scalding and pretentious take on the matter.

I’m OK with the doctor being conflicted about treating another human being. She’s still in a pre-ZA mindset. Morgan is the fuckhead who let 5 of The Wolves go with a gun, and then hid another one in a basement. Now it seems that, shockingly, both actions put members of the group in mortal danger. Morgan is worse than useless. I want to see him empaled on a pike, with rotting flesh and flapping jaw.

This.

I couldn’t agree with this more. If they all survive this, Morgan needs to be exiled. He put the entire community at risk.

I really enjoyed the episode but was hoping for more. My hunch was that Abe would show up with the rocket launcher and take out some big chunks of the herd. I guess Negan’s gang has other plans. Was also hoping for a Glenn/Maggie reunion but that will have to wait…is it February yet?

Two things about Deanna:

  1. It sucks that they killed her off. She was a better leader than Rick.

  2. It was very weird that they made a point to show she landed on a Saw blade and was not actually bit but then they never did anything with that and she died anyway.
They usually excel at premieres and finales but this was pretty lame.

re: 2 - she fell on a blade around zombies - they later showed the zombie bite near the blade.

I think I might have yelled at her to kick the wolf in the face when he bent over.

I’m not too upset thinking a doctor doesn’t want to hurt someone else, especially in Alexandria, but Morgan should know better. I get he doesn’t want to kill, but he’s getting other people killed. Hell, the damn guy said he was going to kill them. When someone says they want all of you to die, fuck em.
