BTW, I just want to offer you some sincere thanks for so diligently starting these threads!
You’re welcome. Tonight’s episode was the best on in awhile. I was really shocked when Negan killed the doctor; I figured he’d be branded or disfigured in a way that wouldn’t impend his work (ie leaving his hands & eyes alone). It does really drive home the point that even the “elite” aren’t above Negan’s laws. It was still a dumb move to since even if Eugene actually had the degrees he claimed to have he’s not doing to be able to step in and be the Chief Medical Officer. Also Eugene’s room was so much nicer than my college dorm and he doesn’t even have to share.
A working Atari 2600 and a copy of Yar’s Revenge would be a difficult find today, I don’t even see why anyone would assume it worked.
I loved tonight’s episode.
What was with Eugene’s smirk after presenting the armored walker idea? Is there some fatal flaw in the idea?
Also I really liked the return of Easy Street
Well covering their heads makes them a lot harder to destroy if they get loose, but if they’re being welded to the fence it’s kind of a moot point. I think Eugene smirked because he impressed Negan and felt a little better about his own safety.
Great episode. I liked it a lot even though Negan was a big part of it!
So much better pacing than last week. The writers took their time to develop the plot and make it work. Last week Rick and the Garbage Goths went form mortal enemies to best friends in about 10 minutes.
Has Eugene really gone over to the Dark Side? Has he reverted to his cowardly, save-himself-above-all-else ways? Or is he putting on the best performance since Marlon Brando in “The Godfather”? Why did Dwight throw the only doctor under the bus? Is Dwight planning to take Negan down from within? Why did Negan kill a doctor, who would be worth his weight in gold? Find out next week, for the answers to all your questions! (But probably not.)
I don’t think Eugene knows the answer to that. Yet.
…I’ve got an old Atari 2600 in the cupboard: we haven’t pulled it out in decades. I hope it still works.
And we have Yars Revenge as well: easily my favourite game on the Atari (and the joystick was my favourite joystick!) and my jar dropped when I saw the game, then I pumped my fist in the air! Easily one of my favourite Walking Dead Geeky Moments.
On Talking Dead Josh was told that the game would be played on a loop, he wouldn’t actually be controlling the game. He apparently said that he needed to be able to mimic the movements right on the controller and needed to practice. So they got him the Atari 2600 games and he spent an afternoon (or something) playing.
I think Eugene is being Eugene. He’s going to side with whomever keeps him alive at any given moment. To some degree he might prefer Negan, as Negan treats him as a valuable contributer while with Rick’s group he quite often faces criticism because he isn’t a warrior. The drawback to being with Negan is of course the arbitrary and harsh justice system. If Eugene really believes he doesn’t need to be afraid anymore than I think he has joined the Saviors. I wonder if he’ll be given a choice in the final episode. An opportunity to rejoin Rick or stick with Negan. I bet he picks Negan. But it will remain to be seen whether it is to act as an inside man or he’s truly flipped.
I hadn’t thought of that. I believed him to be pulling a double cross on Negan, but as far as Eugene’s character goes, you make a good point.
I really enjoyed this rather Eugene-centric episode. Glad to see him flourishing in his supposed captivity! And I don’t think that he has betrayed his former pals; he’s just making the best of the situation.
I thought Negan buying the ridiculous story Dwight came up with was pretty silly.
I liked that Eugene sidled his way into the Saviors. It reminded me of a line from The Stand where Glenn Batemen says the tech guys will go to Flagg because those kind of guys like structure and security. I think there’s some truth to that.
I thought it was funny how Eugene regressed to the same nonsense he spouted off when we first met him about classified projects and such.
Meh…
While I like what they were trying to do in this episode, I think they missed the mark. I would have preferred to see a little more fleshing out of Negan’s little society instead of re-runs of the same stuff we’ve already seen; the weird market / Daryl and Dwight’s cell / furnace and iron / wives who hate Negan. We still have seen nothing to make us think…“Oh, so that’s why they follow Negan.”
And adding to the reasons Negan would have been overthrown by his own people, he just killed the only doctor for a community of hundreds of people!
So how exactly does this credit system work?
Why no farmers?
Where does the fuel to keep this furnace going all the time come from?
How do they generate electricity?
With the same stuff that fuels the furnace.
In this case, people that piss off Negan ie. The doctor.
They collect tribute. They don’t need to farm or do anything. Whatever they need, they get their vassals to scrounge for them.
