The Walking Dead; 7.16 "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life" (open spoilers)

I’d be okay with “take[…]The Blue Man Group and replace them.”

Fanwank as to how Shiva knew who to attack: the Kingdom were feeding the pigs that they gave as tribute to the Saviors zombies chow, which in theory, might have imparted a stench that the tiger could detect.

I actually thought Sasha was still in her cell and was masturbating to memories but then I though “What about Bob?” Later I wondered why she didn’t spare a thought for her brother, too. I just never bought her and Abe as a couple. Mainly because I thought he was a dick for dumping Rosita.

That was the crappiest battle scene ever. How anyone knew who to shoot w/o shooting one of their allies let alone no one shot Negan, Rick or Ezekiel. Plus between the Kingdom and Hilltop they sent a total of what 12 maybe 14 people? Not including Maggie, Morgan and Carol in that total.

So now we wait until October and the Big Battle probably won’t happen until the 6th ep. Before that there will be an EP showing a backstory of someone who will die. An EP of them (any small group) talking, talking and oh, a zombie kill. An EP devoted to rousing the rabble.

Maybe an EP with Rick and his whole crew sitting by a fire singing Kumbaya and flitting around, the ghosts of Beth, Merle, Tyrese, Bob, the 3 little girls, and all the rest. Then again that will probably the final season’s finale.

I believe I am detecting a pattern in the writing of the show.

Oh, fire. Something will burn up.

im looking forward to seeing a backstory to how Negan formed / took over the Saviors

That would be interesting.

I would imagine that he killed their alpha male with a baseball bat.

Interestingly, Sonequa Martin-Green says that Sasha’s fate was sealed before she was cast in Star Trek.

I’m thinking we get an episode from his POV like we did with the Governor.

IMFDB says it’s a custom AR-15. I guess it’s the gun version of a ricer.

I never thought it made sense for the Dumpster Divers to team up with Alexandria in exchange for guns. This is a group that does their best to avoid direct confrontation. They wouldn’t even risk a pond full of zombies to get to a boat they suspected had valuables on it and there’s no way they were going to go head-to-head with the Saviors even for a bunch of guns. So at least their betrayal made sense.

What I was disappointed in was how incompetent the Alexandrians came off as. It would have been nice to see them put together a plan that went fairly well even if it was a partial victory and Negan got away. Even some sort of “Psyche! We knew you would betray us!” with some exposition on how they prepared for would have been better than having Rick and Carl on their knees awaiting some quality time with Lucille.

The AR-15, and it’s variants, are sometimes described as the Barbie doll of the gun world. People love to modify them with after market accessories.

I’m really behind and just finished the season. I suppose that statement sums up my approach to this year. I started watching with the premier and would always watch each episode on Sunday night or at worst first thing Monday morning from DVR. About 3 episodes in I just stopped completely. I just didn’t care to watch it right away and put it in the “I’ll get to it on DVR sometime…” as I prioritized other shows that hold my interest now.

My first episode in catching up via DVR was Bury Me Here and to be honest, I started regretting not watching as the episodes aired. That was one of those rare episodes where TWD was at it’s best. Sadly those episodes became few and far between over the seasons but this reminded me of how good TWD can be when it really wants to be.

But back to the finale. I liked it, didn’t love it. The whole bad-guy pseudo-battle for the finale and the resolution goes to next season pattern is getting old. That said, Negan was just awesome as usual and as someone else said you can tell he really enjoys this role. Sasha’s fate was pretty well telegraphed but unlike some here I liked how they framed laying out that part of the story in this episode. I never got the impression she was dreaming in the coffin, seemed obvious to me she was dying from the poison pill. The dump people’s betrayal was also not a big surprise, once Negan said “a little birdie” it was really the only logical choice. Perhaps my comic book knowledge about certain characters caused me to automatically cross certain people off as the little birdie. Eugene’s speech was awesome but it seems to me that has to be a turning point. If he survives the coming war and Negan loses, he now has no where else to go. I can’t see Rick and team ever taking him back into the fold. Finally, I really liked Maggie’s voiceover at the end and how one decision by Glenn to help Rick (season 1) has led everything to that moment. Everything good and bad started with Glenn helping someone in need. I thought that was poignant.

Things I didn’t like… Rick didn’t even take a moment to look at Carl? Maybe say “I love you” or “I’m sorry!”?? Seemed ridiculous to me. What the hell happened to Gregory? How did I miss this? Obviously they didn’t follow the comic book storyline so what happened?

I think he will do something integral to the fall of Negan and be welcomed back with open arms.
