The first things dictators do is take the guns, and they use registration or inventories to find out who has them or how many are outstanding. I get all my knowledge from tv shows.
Kind of a drawn out episode, if you ask me. Maybe Negan smiles too much, I don’t know, but the intimidation is wearing off. Good to see a Rick taken down so many notches and Fr. Gabe step up (though they’re going to be super-pissed when they discover Maggie at Hilltop), but I can’t see any logical reason this episode needed to be 90 minutes. Just kind of dragged compared to las week and that catchy Easy Street song.
Indeed! It would be merciful to kill people instead of forcing them to listen to that pseudo-humor hour after hour. Having said that, Cawwwwrl needs a good smacking!
I was entertained, so no snark for this episode. Rick carried this show once again, and I am glad his crew is motivated to stop Negan.
Surprised no one here mentioned that Rick finally confirmed Shane is Judith’s father- it was left ambiguous on the TV show when she was pregnant.
I thought Daryl would have been held back at headquarters offsite to guarantee that Rick’s group would not try to fight if they ever saw Negan. In other words, if Daryl being held hostage is the a chief reason why Rick won’t fight back, but Daryl was onsite, Rick’s people should have held on to the weapons and fought, even if outnumbered. After all, it appears there is no reason to live anyway. Even Daryl does not care if he lives or dies.
Regarding Negan getting played out? Yeah, the writers are trolling us, and he is their mouthpiece. They sure are getting their money’s worth by the word with him. Anyway, Negan was way too funny and charming last night, although he was an extreme bully and I wish he would eat Lucille. It is hard to take him seriously, he comes off like a pro wrestler heel or comic book villain. Ooops, he is a comic book villain.
Another solid episode. A real slow burn of tension done well unlike the premiere which felt cheap and manipulative. I am enjoying this season which I did not expect at all.
It is obvious that Jeffrey Dean Morgan is having a fabulous time hamming it up as Negan.
That being said, I can’t wait to see the demented jerk – Negan, not Mr. Morgan – die horribly.
I just don’t know about this season any more. I’m really starting to think “why don’t they just kill Negan?” Without him, if the Saviors attack they’ll be severely weakened and will most likely just scatter in different directions. Set a huge trap at the gates of ASZ, so when he and his crew of 50+ show up - boom. All of 'em dead.
Am I wrong in my thinking here? I don’t follow the comics so perhaps some of you who do could shed some light on this for me.
You are absolutely right. If they kill Negan the first thing the saviors would do would be fight each other to see who’s in charge, and whoever it was wouldn’t have the following Negan does. It would just be a bunch of splintered groups much weaker than Alexandria.
The only downside to killing Negan is that Daryl would probably die. I think that’s the reason Daryl was brought along. To show Rick he’s still alive and they have a hostage.
Gotta say, I’m bored. There was no justification for this episode going 90 minutes. Heck, there was little justification for it going 30 minutes. Negan is completely one dimensional, and his influence (or the writers’ lack of creativity) is turning everyone else one dimensional too. The sarcastic, semi-psychotic threat thing has grown tedious. The only exception was Father Gabe, who showed himself to be more complicated than I had imagined.
First we had torture porn, now we have degradation porn. I feel like I need a shower after watching “The Walking Dead.” This Negan arc cannot end too soon for my liking.
ETA: I do love Jeffrey Dean Morgan, though, even though the writing for him is indeed tedious. He’s a gleeful sociopath - we get it.
