The war has begun???

Honey, if being scolded on a message board is enough to intimidate you, then you are a sad creature indeed.

By this you mean that you are the only one allowed to speak freely, and the rest of us must refrain from criticism or we are “censoring” you. How typically liberal.

Well, my sweet angel, I will refrain from hurting your delicate feelings and will do my best to keep you from feeling threatened.

Well, thanks for being a great example of a complete idiot.

Now we have a reference point.

I am totally and 100% against this war. I’m a pacifist with a profound distaste for any war. And the arguments for war somehow never seem to convince me.

However…it comes as almost a relief that the war has begun. Nothing is worse than living with the limbo and uncertainty that came to a head in the last couple of weeks or so. If it was going to happen anyway, might as well get on with it. At least now things are moving along. Let’s just hope it will be over swiftly with a minimum amount of casualties and repercussions.

It doesn’t, but the fact that you are happy to tell people what they must never, ever say on this Board suggests that you might also do it in other types of conversation.

A little slow, aren’t we? Say what you want, but if what you say appears to constitute an attempt to circumscribe what opthers can say, then expect to be called on it.

And there’s nothing wrong with criticism. Nice straw man. Criticism is fine, but you didn’t just criticize Jomo Mojo for the content of his speech; you told him to never, ever say what he said. If you had said that you didn’t agree with his sentiments, and then enumerated the reasons why you thought that saying you are ashamed of your country is silly or unproductive or whatever, then fine. But instead, you gave a direct order, which you have not yet repudiated:

And please, enough with the “honey” and “angel.” I’m not interested in your advances, and my girlfriend might get jealous.

W
And I won’t repudiate it. I find his sentiments disgusting and I will continue to tell him and you so. But what you completely fail to get is that my criticism means nothing without the power of coercion, which I would oppose. I’m free to tell him to stow it and he (and you) are free to tell me I’m a fascist. The second anyone actually tried to shut you two up, you can depend I’d be on your side heart and soul.

Sugar.

With your brand of sugar, I’m quite sure many of us would be content to become diabetic.

Aren’t you supposed to be burning a US flag right now?

Can we please have a useful exchange of opinions, even here in the Pit? Perhaps something that goes beyond “up yours, you idiot”? Does anyone here really need any more stress? I know I sure don’t, and I don’t see what this is accomplishing.

No.

Aren’t you supposed to be felching our Commander in Chief?

Whon earth would I do that? I loathe Bush and can’t wait to vote his ass out of the White House. But just because I can’t stand the man does not mean that I have to disagree with everything he says. Saddam is a threat and this war is justified.

Now piss off.

Should have known better than to even ask.

Bush is guilty of war crimes! And murdering babies for fun! And kicking puppies!

The nerve of this administration. Shooting missiles into a country that we are at war with. War crimes, indeed.

Go to work and I get taken to task for not having an opportunity to respond. Sheesh.
From the CIA website:

Care for me to find cites from International Law as well, or should the one from your own government suffice?

:smack: Forgot to paste the quote from the aforementioned link:

In Saddam’s case, it comes down to this:

If he is wearing his country’s military uniform during a war and is not one of the two protected classes (being a chaplain or a medic), he becomes a legitimate target as an enemy combatant.

If we had him shot out on the street when there were no hostilities, then it would be assassination.

And if war has not been declared officially? Or if the strikes were made and then war was at least unofficially declared?

Now you have to determine what an official declaration of war is. Congress is not obligated to pass something that says “I declare war”, since the Constitution doesn’t specifically say what form the declaration must take. It can be argued that the resolution passed by Congress last year is a tacit declaration of war, a la the Tonkin Gulf Resolution.

There’s enough there that legitimacy can be claimed, despite what Annan, Putin and Chirac want to believe.

Personally, I’d rather take out Saddam and his buddies rather than some poor Iraqi conscript who has nothing to do with the situation in which we find ourselves today. That’s justice, in my humble opinion.

Agreed, Wabbit.

Were it only that easy.

For the record, while we have a bunch of whiney bi-partisan bitching and whining in here, we have the first confirmed deaths of allied forces…

But I’m glad to see that so many of you are keeping up on what’s really important.

May the powers that be guide the souls of the dead, and keep the living from harm as much as possible.

Tristan, kiss my ass. Just because I oppose the “war” does not mean that I do not not care for the fallen. To imply otherwise is asanine. In fact, I have a great sadness that there are casualties on both sides, and that there will be more. I am allowed to be against this war and voice my opinions on such, while still being upset that there was and will be more loss of life. Will the fact that there are casualties make me voice my opinions on the US Gov’t actions less out of respect? No way. In fact, to properly show respect, I will continue to voice my dissent against your gov’t and hope that my voice with a chorus of others will help to stop this action, and thus end the loss of life.

So stop your fucking self righteousness by comparing two things that do not deserve the comparasin.
