Though “detox” is used in alternative medicine I think it is a real concept when you’re talking about the liver…
The Addendum is from a year ago:
http://blog.lluniversity.com/intermittent-fasting-wave-do-you-need-to-catch-it/
“If intermittent fasting confers equal or better benefits…then we should see an onslaught of professional bodybuilders (not onesie twosie) also kneeling at the alter of and hailing intermittent fasting as king of the diets.”
I’m not saying that IF does involve equal or better benefits for body builders… I’m just saying it is a reasonably effective alternative. It is a diet that is attractive to me. I don’t want to eat a lot of tiny meals. I prefer fasting or undereating and then having as much as I want including some foods that are high in calories.
Though body builders have some big meals in addition to small meals they burn off those extra calories so I wouldn’t be able to eat as much as they do if I did eat very regularly.
No, it really isn’t.
The liver apparently removes toxins from the blood… do you agree? Do you agree that it can be overworked? If so then it could benefit from a rest… I can start a new thread about the liver if you explain what you disagree about…
The point of your liver is to remove “toxins”. It also metabolizes drugs, and makes certain proteins.
Saying you should give your liver a rest is like claiming that you should give your lungs a rest by not breathing.
I started a thread about the liver here:
BTW apparently muscles benefit from a rest…
As far as breathing goes, if you’re having trouble breathing because of intense exercise, breathing very calmly is a rest.
“Rest” is a relative term. If your muscles are resting at night you might still be using them to move around in bed, etc.
ALL exercise? Swimming, biking, dancing, jogging, skating, any type of games? Any type of physical activity whatsoever? :dubious:
Which ones? Smooth muscle? Skeletal muscle? Cardiac muscle?
Giving your cardiac muscle a rest would be a bad idea.
BTW, your liver is not made up of muscle.
Some types of exercise are fun (games like soccer, biking, some dancing, some swimming) but I don’t get around to doing them. At the moment I just do some walking. I don’t like things like jogging or going to the gym or using an exercise bike.
You’re the one who was saying that the lungs are like the liver…
What if you were having a very high heart rate… then having a rest means the resting heart rate. Like I said “rest” doesn’t need to mean turning off. When the body rests it is still using a lot of energy - the brain is active, etc.
GrumpyBunny:
Like I said I made a thread for discussion about the liver:
You can post in it to claim that there is no benefit to the liver for it to rest…
This is what the Renegade Diet ebook says about the “Toxic Liver”
Quote:
No matter how healthy the food is that you eat the fact of the matter is you are still ingesting tons of toxins and other damaging compounds that are found in even organic goods. If it is constantly over worked, as is the case with the majority of people, your ability to burn fat and function at the highest level will be seriously compromised.
False. Untrue. Baloney. Wackadoodle bs. Take your pick.
You know what they call “alternative medicine” that works? Medicine.
So why not do them? Sign up for a dancing class with your wife. See if the YMCA has a pool, or something like that. Do you have friends who like to play games? Maybe they’ll join you.
I’ve tried dancing classes with my wife. We had trouble remembering the moves properly. I might do some more Zumba with my Xbox. I don’t particularly like swimming though… sometimes it is too cold, etc. No I don’t have friends that like to play games. But anyway I’ve got priorities. I like to chill out and take it easy. I want a proper break when I’m not working.
From “The Renegade Diet”:

I’d have at least 15% or more fat… especially with the boobs and belly…
You keep posting links to sources that have no credibility. You shouldn’t be taking them seriously. No one here is going to accept them as a credible source.
Just like your diet, garbage in -> garbage out.
Why do you keep asking our opinions simply to dismiss them?
