I’m a chicken and I’m staying inside because of the extreme cold outside. I was supposed to go to the bank today, but I don’t really need money for anything if I’m not going anywhere. Unless I stay inside and order a bunch of crap online or something. Which I don’t imagine I’ll do today anyway.
I’m working on various computer-related things and other stuff. Hope to get some music editing done today.
The rain has restarted and dreariness has not let up. But I managed to shower and don some sweats appropriate for indoor wear. I’m about to haul the dirty laundry downstairs and run a load of unders. Good times!
My attempts to get additional snoozing was for naught so I’ve been watching a few more episodes of The Tudors. I figure the laundry is all I’ll accomplish today, unless there’s a chicken in the freezer, as I’ve had a hankerin’ for rotissed chickie. We shall see.
Oh, and for the people in the previous MMP thread wanting to know about my, umm… organ.
It’s a Hammond organ (an electric organ.) I don’t know the exact type, but it’s not a B3 (the Hammond B3 is the “wobbly”-sounding one you hear in old rock recordings.)
My organ hasn’t worked in years, which is too bad, because it was a cool instrument.
My mother had a groundhog living in her backyard for years until the hounds from hell got there. The groundhog and Sah-dog got along fine, they ignored each other.
It’s a cloudy 34 degrees today, supposed to get up into the 40s.
I woke up too early, around 4 and couldn’t get back to sleep. Then I fell asleep and gotup too late.
Nothing on the agenda today except irk. Always irk.
No special festivals that I go to. I went to the Preakness Infield one time. Once was enough. Didn’t see a single horse until we were leaving and the mounted police were there for crowd control. It was a wild crazy drunken bash with multiple people carried off in ambulances due to fighting and drunken hijinks. The lines for the porta-potties were so long that you’d have to get in line before you needed to and would be dancing with your legs crossed by the time you got to the pot. I was told I was very fast for a women in there, but it’s hard to dawdle when a bunch of drunks are running across the tops and you don’t know if you will get tipped over or they will fall through the sky light.
Like I said, once was enough.
I’ve only gone twice; once late 70s and once early 80s. To be honest, its sort of a mess between the weather, the roads coming to and from, the crowds and parking and everything else. Considering how long they have done this you would think they would have it down better.
If you want to go “nature”, I more recommend the annual Buzzard Festival in Hinkley Ohio. The buzzard breakfast is good but the buzzard beer is a lot better. It doesn’t draw the people but its really a kick-ass time and a ton of fun.
I also recommend very highly the Cook Forest French & Indian War Weekend. It is always held the weekend BEFORE Fathers Day weekend. It is one of the few places nationwide where you can see a colonial battle fought in colonial conditions - DCNR lets us use the edge of the old growth forest for it. And the management team is FANTASTIC and -------- me, pretty much. As you check the pictures, I’m in my priest clothes. http://www.cookforest.com/frenchandindianwar/index.cfm
And while I’ve only been there once – the Bean Blossom Bikerfest has found a warm place in my heart. Music all day long and much alcohol and much nekkidness and much fun and no stress or conflict.
Check around the local music folks; someone may take a swing at it for free. I know I would if you were closer. Hammonds are pretty easy to work on and get parts for. The “household” tube models are easiest but the portables aren’t bad either.
Regarding the remaining amount of winter - I have 45 bags of pellets left. That translates to about 45 more days of heating before we have to rely on the furnace. I don’t want to rely on the furnace. So we better be warm enough to turn off the heat in 45 days, or I shall become cross!
I went to the Preakness about 30 years ago. Went with 2 gay guys so had a great time. We partied in the field and drank a lot of Black Eye Susans. I was the only one with a car so I presume I drove, but have no memory of it…Hey, it was 30 years ago!
One of my favorites here in Tennessee is the Cornbread festival in South Pittsburg (home of the Lodge cast iron cookware outfit). I’m with ruble on the Bean Blossom Bikerfest. I helped with sound and lights a couple of times in the eighties and have been there on a bike a few times since.
lieu, the festival at Bean Blossom likely isn’t what you’re thinking.
Emily, I had a B3 back before I moved to an upstairs apartment. Sometimes, I still miss it.
There used to be a groundhog in the neighbor’s yard that I could see from my deck. 'Long towards spring, the asshole bluejays would play games with the poor critter (groundhogs are not overly bright) whenever he’d stick his head up. One would divebomb him and while he was doing the cartoonish “duh, where’d he go” thing, the other would get him from behind. Asshole bluejays.
I think that was about the same time I went.
Way too wild of a crowd for me, too many fights. Partying is cool, fighting is not.
Lieu I think the boxes whatever they are called are prim and proper, people dress up and sip on drinks.
I imagine the rest of the stands are your typical racing types.
The Infield is the party place. I hear the rules have gotten tighter about what you can bring in with you.
I called my mother to tell her that her birthday present will be delivered today and we got into a huge fight. I swear that woman is going to give me a stroke. What really pisses me off is she is the one who starts screaming at me then she turns around and yells at me for starting it.
I need to find the rest of my stuff- Sah-sons baby pictures and the missing parts of my sewing machine and all the other stuff the HFH moved around, lost or stole and get it out of there and cut off all contact for a while.
Moanday is livin’ up to its name so far. The insanity abounds! The big one so far is the lady who has been pesterin’ me nonstop for two weeks about when she can get started. I got the approval this mornin’ and called her and the place where she’ll be trainin’. She then proceeds to tell me she changed her mind and does not want to do this after all. Then again, maybe we dodged a bullet. It cannot be go home time soon enough.
So, any of the various groundhogs seen a shadow? I have not been keepin’ up today.
The official weather news is that my area of no. Illinois got 16 inches of snow. I believe Midway and O’Hare got more, making this the 5th biggest storm ever. I am so thankful I live in a townhouse and don’t have to shovel or plow.
Weird. My digital music publishing account says that my two new items have been “approved” but aren’t yet for sale. But they must be for sale because someone bought both items yesterday. I’m sure it’ll get sorted out soon enough. In the meantime, I can work on some new music arrangements for eventual publication.
I had some of the doughnuts my dad and I made the other day, and they’ve worked out pretty well.
Which, coming from Swampy, probably means about 15 more minutes 'til go home time. :dubious:
Punxsuy Phil saw his shadow. Though, truthfully, with all of the lights there & TV cameras, it’d be pretty hard not to see his shadow.
Gigity, I agree that Chunkin’ is one of the best redneck festivals (combining farming, projectiles, splats, & occasionally ‘pie’); however, with it’s (supposed) moving to the Monster Mile, I don’t think it’ll be as good, even though it’s closer.
For anyone who might be interested in doing a few miles, this race (which has pre-reg opening, today, on Groundhog Day).
For those who think that’s too far, there’s this “race” on Friday. :rolleyes:Yes, the distance is 0.0; the step that takes you over the starting line also puts you over the finish line.
Buy, hey, you get a t-shirt, race bib, post-race beer, & possible medal just like in a real race.
