The Wedding Planner & Krazy Glue

I haven’t seen the movie yet. But while going through the coupon section this morning, I came across a coupon for Krazy Glue along with a picture of the video (yet to be released) “The Wedding Planner”. The ad says “See how Krazy Glue saves the day in Sony Pictures’ The Wedding Planner.” What caught my eye was that Jennifer Lopez was not on the cover. It had Matthew McConaughey & Bridgette Wilson-Sampras, who I guess was the bride-to-be. (A small note underneath says “Cover art subject to change.”)

Can someone explain why Jennifer Lopez was not on the cover? I’m sure when it comes out, she will be featured very prominently on the cover, as she was in the movie ads/posters. Can I guess that Bridgette whatshername was the one who used the glue?

The “cover art subject to change” line implies the illustration used was a “mock-up”. When the Crazy Glue people decided they needed a tie in with the movie, it was before all the promotional art was decided on.

Crazy Glue probably got a wad of approved art from Sony Pictures and had their Art Monkey throw together a mock video box. They chose the Matt/Bridgette shot. Sony went with Jenny. But by that time Crazy Glue already had their art going to the printers for their Big Glue Deal.

Crazy Glue needed more lead-time at the printers than Sony. So they couldn’t wait to see what the “official” promotional art was going to be.

That doesn’t make much sense to me. I mean, why would anyone put Bridgette on the cover instead of Jennifer?

As I said, I haven’t seen the movie, so I’m at a disadvantage here. But to me this was like finding a picture of Richard Gere and Laura San Giacomo on the cover of “Pretty Woman.”

My guess would be that J-Lo wanted too much money to condescend to appear on the Krazy Glue package, or that her agent thought it would be bad for her image or something, or maybe she was just too busy with Puff Daddy to sign the damn papers already, so the Ad Monkeys said, “Okay, fine” and went with Bridgette.
