The Weight of Ctrl-C

Sort of random, but here we go:

I’ve noticed that anytime I have something copied to the clipboard, but I don’t immediately paste it to where I intend it to go, I have a distinct feeling like I am holding a weight sort of vaguely on the back of my left hand, reminding me that I still have it waiting there.

Anyone else have any sort of semi-physical manifestation of memory in regards to this? (Or anything else for that matter?)

Funny. I feel that a little too.

If I, for instance, copy a link that I’m going to paste at the end of a post, I always think, “i’ll just wait until I’m done typing to ctrl-v it.”

But, I get halfway through typing, and the feeling of “what if I accidentally mess up my ctrl-c” starts creeping. So, I ctrl-v it, and go back to editing my post.

I know what you’re talking about, I think. I also feel “weighted” when I’ve kept reading past a link I know want to go back to, or in a book if I’ve jumped over some descriptive passage to the dialogue because I just can’t wait. I feel the weight more over my left shoulder, though.

I never really noticed that until reading your thread – thanks. Cool.

No, that’s truly odd.

I feel like all that copied stuff is inside the mouse until I paste it somewhere.

Except when I copy via ctrl+c, then it’s all stashed away in the keyboard.

No, I don’t have that feeling.

Yeah, sort of.

Occasionally when I screw up something minor in real life, my left hand itches to Ctrl-Z.

I’ve tried it. Doesn’t work.

Don’t you wish it would though?

Yeah, I kinda get the weighty feeling too. And I tend to hit ctrl-c four or five times to make sure I’ve got it (yeah, I know.)

Control-Z is Windows shorthand for “Call Zorro”.

Slash, slash, slash!

Synesthesia, innit?

No. No, I do not.

I have a certain psychological tension when I have copied something but not yet pasted it, yes, often relieved by pasting it to the nearest Notepad. But it doesn’t actually manifest itself as a physical sensation, at least not one that I could name.

Yes. To the left, about shoulder height, about where my elbow would be if I held my arm out perpendicular to the floor.

For me it’s not a weight, but a pressing need. Sort of like a reminder to check dinner, or to not miss an approaching appointment. It hangs over me in a minor, but subtle nagging, way.

I don’t have the feeling of a weight on the back of my hand. I have the feeling of a frisky box turtle wriggling enthusiastically between my ass cheeks while blowing a kazoo. Or is it just me?

Dude, yes, totally just you.

I have a little utility that tracks the last 10 things I’ve copied. It’s like I have 10 clipboards. I feel light as a feather.
