The whole world is bi: the strange demographics of MySpace

… not that there’s anything wrong with that.

In the process of looking for others in my profession and promoting my web site on MySpace, a friend suggested that I should browse through the profiles of women in my age group. I did, and the results were … well, unusual. If MySpace is a reflection of the general demographics of the Cleveland metropolitan area, approximately one fourth of all women in the region are bisexual. Even though they claim to be bi, the majority don’t seem to like men; there’s a lot of “NO MEN NO WAY” type statements. So … what’s the deal?

Also, based on what I’ve seen on MySpace profiles …

  • 15% of all women in the Cleveland area are biker chicks.
  • The median per capita income for a woman in Cleveland is over $100,000.
  • About 80% of all women in the Cleveland area live in one suburb, Lakewood.

I noticed that, too, whenever people have posted profiles and stuff here - every woman looking for online romance is bi. Hmm.

If I was only twenty years younger…

[Woody Allen]The advantage to being bisexual is it automatically doubles your chances of getting a date for Friday night.[/WA]

Having grown up in Cleveland, I think this is probably an underrepresentation of the true total.

Maybe that’s just who MySpace attracts - either that or someone’s lying. :stuck_out_tongue: I don’t know any women (or any men) in Cleveland that make that much.

I looked in Lakewood but got an apartment in West Park instead …

One thing I can tell you about Lakewood, at least at the time I lived here - if every gay guy on the Gold Coast stuck his arm out his apartment window and waved, the buildings would fly away. It was a very popular area for gay men at that time - one of my good friends lived there with his BF for quite a long time. Nice place.
