This is a 2018 Korean movie with English subtitles. The basic plot is that one of a number of genetically engineered super kids makes a bloody escape from the facility in which she was created. She is found unconscious in a field and adopted by the couple that found her. It advances from there with unexpected twists that I will not expose here. I highly recommend it. The Witch: Part II “The Other One” comes out on June 15.
I stumbled across it this past fall and enjoyed it. I’m not sure I understood what happened in the final scene - who/what is the third woman, dressed in white, who appears over Ja-yoon’s shoulder, and to whom is Ja-yoon’s warning directed? Is this a manifestation of Ja-yoon’s increasing powers?
Glad to hear that the story continues, and look forward to finding out who the other one is…
It is unclear and probably intentionally so. Perhaps she is “the other one” in the next part II installment, “The Other One”, which is set for release on June 15.
I liked the repeated use of reflections in the movie, and especially how they handled the one-way mirror in the scene in the semi-abandoned facility. The reason I was left wondering in the final scene was the brief glimpse of a reflection in what I took to be the window behind the older woman that seemed to show the older woman face-on, which was odd, and then the third person showed up almost as if she had been summoned.
I haven’t seen it. Is Part 2 the conclusion, or is this continuing?
One web site that critiqued the movie in detail referred to it as a “franchise”, but I think that really means they will make part III if part II is as popular as part I.
Just coming back to mention that Netflix Canada will only have part 1 available until June 9th, 2022, don’t know about availability in other countries.
I re-watched the final scene, and I was misremembering it. The older woman (Dr. Baek’s sister) is not seen reflected in the window, it is the mysterious third woman appearing as if out of nowhere behind Ja-yoon. This makes me think that Ja-yoon is warning this new player to back off in the final spoken line.
