I finally got a computer that is capable of playing newer games. I’ve been looking at The Witcher: Enhanced Edition. Anyone play it? Any good? I was going to hold off for the console version, but I believe it is in Limbo.
I think so, yes. It has an interesting magic and combat system and a decent enough story. If you like collecting fantasy-style nude paintings, there is a fair bit of PG sex - highly unusual for RPGs of any sort.
The only negative, and it’s a significant one, is that replayability is somewhat limited IMHO. This because optimal character development channels you strongly in roughly the same direction, the story is fairly linear, in line with that you play only a particular well-defined ( by a slew of Polish books ) individual and though there are technically three storyline paths one can pursue, they aren’t terribly different. It was good for two playthroughs for me, but that was about it.
Still, unexpectedly well done and a somewhat novel setting.
Yes, it is good, and has some much deeper choices than you usually get in games. What you do won’t always control how things turn out (because other people are doing things) but you can impact events in surprising but logical ways.
I remember that Shamus Young complained that he didn’t like playing a dirty old man, which is possibly missing the whole point of everything. Geralt is IIRC mid-40’s (and he spent part of that dead), and you don’t have to sleep around if you don’t want to.
It’s a fantastic game, by a good company. And the storyline is amazing. It’s a truly adult action-adventure game, a fantasy novel come to life.
It’s really fun, but not very replayable. By the end of the game you are basically invincible, but the combat system is really fun and intuitive and the story is really well done.
