So I was tormenting myself by sitting through League of Extraordinary Gentlemen last night and I was thinking, “For a man who’s got a reputation for being great Sean Connery has starred in a lot of bad movies.” So what’s the worst movie he’s been part of?
And for a few quick options:
Highlander 2
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The Avengers Zardoz (warning: the goggles will do nothing)
His last 3 or 4 were pretty much stinkers. LXG, Finding Forrester and Avengers were all pretty unwatchable. The Rock and that Catherine Zeta Jones thing might be the only entertaining ones he did after Indy.
I liked League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (that’s right, I said it). As far as big dumb action movies go, it was pretty entertaining and had a great look.
It’s 50/50 between *Zardoz *and Highlander II. At least he spent large parts of The Avengers wearing a teddy bear suit…
…you know what? Make mine The Avengers.
My first thought was Zardoz - but upon reflection I think it was a really interesting idea that suffered from bad writing and bad direction. One out of 3 ain’t bad.
It’s damning with faint praise to say (accurately) that The Rock is amongst his better recent efforts. It’s an okay action flick, but it’s pretty dang weak as far as good movies go, IMO.
The Untouchables and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade were probably the last decent things he was in that I’m aware of. I really liked Outland as well. Man, those movies were a long time ago.
I keep tiptoeing back in to make sure no one has mentioned The Anderson Tapes. Few here may even be familiar with it as it’s older and, admittedly, not really a darling of the cable movie networks. It was though one of the first “grown up” movies I saw as a kid and to our juvenile, unsophisticated minds it was “pretty keen!” It’d be a shame to learn later we’d fallen for a real dog.
Thinking back on it, it probably wasn’t all that bad of a movie or performance by Connery. While I’ve never seen Zardoz, judging by the comments here AT should rank far above.
