the WTC Simpsons episode

That’s just ridiculous. Pull an episode of a CARTOON?!

I’m still not sure how I feel about shelving movies and postponing sitcoms…

No, I’m sure. It’s stupid, too.

Why eerie? The Simpsons episode didn’t show the WTC’s demise, did it?

Just because they reference the WTC, doesn’t mean that it’s bad or in poor taste or anything. The “jerks” comment would be inappropriate if the episode was made AFTER 9-11-01, but since it was before, I think it’s just a reminder of happier times. You can’t change what happened by locking out all mention of the WTC forever - they stood there for 30 years. There’s nothing wrong with that at all.

I started a thread on this in Cafe Society, and some people thought I was over-reacting. But I keep remembering the episode that was shown the Monday after Flight 800 went down on Wednesday, killing 230 people. The episode where Bart & Milhous find a $20 bill and paint the town. The episode with the line “Where did a $20 bill come from?”
“Maybe a plane exploded.” I would have airred 30 minutes of dead air before showing that episode at that time.

They’ll show this over again. I mean, why don’t we quit showing all episode of Seinfeld that had the WTC in the background, or Law and Order or the thousands of other TV shows (or movies) that had the WTC in a scene?

This is what I thought too. I saw the trailer for this, “Collateral Damage”, which is supposed to come out October 5. A Spanish guy, I believe from Latin America, sets off a bomb that kills Ahnold’s family. I thought at first that it would be postponed, but on the other hand, Ahnold seems to go hunt down the guy and kick his butt, so that may be a nice story to show.

Just as another data point: FOX reran the episode where Mrs. Flanders died at the track the day after Dale Earnhardt died. I wasn’t a big racing fan, but I still was sick about it, and running the episode seemed tasteless.

Interesting you mention this since a multi-part cross-over story thread involving all three Law & Order shows (there’s a third premiering this year) about a terrorist threat in Manhattan has been shelved now.

Well, not eerie, per se…just odd. It’s not so strange I’d never want them to show it again or anything.

I posted to the other thread too–this is one of my favorite episodes and I hope they don’t shelve it. I hope they don’t shelve anything from the past that has the WTC in it. We can’t change history. It’s a big load of dookey if they start trying to do that.

As for upcoming things, yes, definitely shelve those for a while. But they should still be able to show them in the future…put a notice that it might be disturbing or something beforehand so people who want/need to avoid it can.

In related news, Roger Ebert mentions the kind of post-tragedy censorship in his review of O, the updating of Othello. I invite you all to go and check it out…

I turned on Seinfeld tonight expecting the Series Finale Part I. Instead was an episode that war aired earlier in the week. My theory? The plot involved a plane going down. Thoughts?

It’s on the edge of my consciousness… please… help… me… remember…

Was that the last episode, where their plane is going down and they all confess something (one was that George cheated at the Master of Your Domain bet and that Jerry was the real winner; the other was that Elaine loved Jerry)?

I do believe that with some shows they’ll not show some episodes that might be chilling in the wake of the crash, but as time goes on, they’ll air them.

Interestingly enough, I saw the episode of The Simpsons titled “And Maggie Makes Three” last night. At the begining, Homer has this dream where he’s warding off terrorists. “Homer 10, Terrorists 8.”

Homer: Uh…would you mind going across the street and getting me a slice of pizza?

Guy: No pizza, just horoslsh (sorry, no idea what he said), horoslh! ::gives him this lumpy brown thing on a stick::

Homer: ::practically inhaling:: Now I need something to wash the awful taste out of my mouth…what do you have?

Guy>: Mountain dew or crab juice.

Homer>: Ewww, oh, yech…- I’ll take a crab juice. ::downs about ten to fifteen cans…:: Uh oh. You wouldn’t happen to have a bathroom in there, would you?

Guy>: Only horoslh. Bathroom in tower, tower!!

I’m doing this from memory so some of the quotes are off a little.

It’s clavgalash.

Yeah. That’s the episode. I also fully agree with your assessment. There will be a cooling off period and then we will see the episodes. If the don’t appear on TV, they’ll be available on DVD in the full season collections. Anyone planning on getting the Season One collection when it comes out this fall?

thanks… lol

It’s Khlav Kalash.
“I’ll take one bowl”
“No bowl, stick.”

It recently occurred to me that probably some restaurant was running a `two for tuesday’ special on 9/11. I’ll bet we’ll see an end to those promotions.

Ok, this is getting silly. I can understand the TV show episodes to a certain extent, but the 2 For Tuesday specials? Give me a break! That’s really stretching it.
