It is one hell of a soggy day here. This will continue along with “gusty” winds and snow up in the mountains.
I have errands to run today, along with final prep for my Dad’s memorial service. Additionally, this evening my friends want us to come over for dinner because they haven’t seen us for a couple weeks.
My husband is looking forward to seeing them as am I, it’s just that I have a lot to fit into today.
Home - **FCD **wanted to leave early so he could futz around in his shop on something work-related. I’m going to spot-clean the carpets (dog pee) then run to the grocery store for cookie-baking supplies, depending upon what’s low in my pantry.
Leftovers from last night’s dindin for N.O.L. poke chop and some peas 'n carrots. Tonight is pizza night I have decided. OYKW was pleased to find out he gets to pick up a pizza. What? I’ll order it. That’s the hard part.
Back from grocery run - so far, I’m planning to make chocolate chip, oatmeal, oatmeal-raisin, ginger snaps, snickerdoodles, and a kind of sugar cookie that my mom makes, if she sends me the recipe. If I had a cookie press, I’d do spritz also. **FCD **suggested a caulking gun. I’m thinking no…
**Apes **- bummer about the snot. Isn’t it funny how some people tend to fall into the cook or baker side, but not both? My grandmother was a wonderful cook, but she couldn’t bake for anything. Of course, she didn’t have to - there were several fabulous family bakeries within a few blocks of her house. She got the best breads and pastries… <drool> I’m an OK cook - haven’t killed anyone yet - but I’m a pretty awesome baker.
Back to the kitchen with me - I’m making sloppy joes for supper. I picked up some good rolls while i was at the sto’…
Apes I’m not much of a baker either. I can make good cornbread and bizkits but other than that, if’n it ain’t from a mix it ain’t happenin’ in da cave. Speakin’ of which, howdy from da cave. Let the weekend begin!!!
It’s never too early! We used to have people volunteer several weeks in advance once upon a time. And while it’s great that you have a good one, you should know by now that the quality of the MMP is secondary to having an MMP.
The sloppy joes are smelling yummmmm! **FCD **is napping. I’m about to assume the knit position - I’m making a random-colored shawl using up yarn scraps. It should be interesting…
My homeless friend is on the way over to get the money for his bus ticket home. My snotty racist sister is here so I hope she keeps her mouth shut.
He’s one of the good friends, the kind that hold you up when you need it and knock you on your ass when you need it.
One day my niece’s dog got loose and went running in the woods by her house. When the dog came back she had a bone in her mouth, part of a human leg bone. So my niece called the police and of course their was an investigation. All that is very interesting to me and most of my friends because we all love a good crime show, like to play armchair detective and learn about forensics. So the reaction among us varied from ‘wow’ and ‘cool’ to ‘gross’. Except for him. His answer was ‘good’. Good? Yes, good, because it means that a family who has been worried about and looking for a missing loved one will have some answers and they won’t have to look for them anymore. Knocked me on my ass, and made me totally ashamed of myself for forgetting that that bone was once part of a person and not an object of interest.
He’ll also tell you that stretch marks are battle scars and women should be proud of them because it means they brought life into the world and there is nothing more beautiful than that. Wrinkles and grey hair should be badges of honor because life is a struggle and older people should be respected just for the fact that they made it.
I wonder if he will still feel that way when he is the one with the wrinkles and grey hair.
Anyway the leg bone turned out to be some medical waste. You have to wonder how that got into the woods.
I’m debating whether or not I’m baking cookies this year.
I think I’m too grumpy and bah-humbug this year. If everybody could shut up and leave me alone to bake them… well I still have time to decide.
Bourbon balls, I will make bourbon balls.
One year I made my grandmother’s recipe. I had to keep adding more cookie crumbs and nuts because it was such a gloppy mess. I found a recipe almost exactly like my grandmother’s, except for where grandma’s had double the bourbon.
Maybe grandma meant you were supposed to drink half and add the rest to the mix?
Hrm, I don’t know what I am  I love, love the dark and quiet times of late night and early morning. I love the sunrise. But I love my sleep, so I don’t see either much, anymore, unless its planned. Or there’s a dog involved, hehe. On that note, I have been catching up on sleep a LOT while on vacation, sometimes 12 hours a day! this may be because its not 80 degrees inside, so my jammies and blankie keep me warm instead of making me sweat.
Hey all! I decided to experiment a bit today and made two batches of two different kinds of chex mix: the muddy buddies, aka “puppy chow,” which is peanut butter and chocolate on rice & corn chex, coated with 10X sugar, and lemon buddies, lemon/butter/white chocolate on rice chex, coated with 10X sugar. Let me tell you something - those lemon buddies are some good stuff! There are a whole lot of recipes on a page for chexmix.com - savory, sweet, sweet & savory together. You can also buy them, but I personally think they taste better when home-made.
2gig, your truck lights look cool! I like simple displays like that. Too bad about the leak at Channel 9, though!
Good luck with your cookie baking, FCM, sounds like you’ve got your work cut out for you, but the rewards will be sweet.
Hope everyone else is ready for the weekend - some cooler temps are headed to ABQ for this weekend, and we -might- even get some rain or gasp snow in the mountains into Monday. Hmm, we’ll see about that! I’m going to make beef stew in the crock pot over the weekend.
Internet shoppin’ is da bomb! I am now in possession, temporarily, of a doll that carries on about cupcakes, a set of cute little girl bracelets, a monster truck and a mini football, mini soccer ball and softball. These are the presents I (we) bought for the little girl and boy whose names I got off the givin’ tree at the church house. I suppose this means I now need to wrap 'em up.
We have a motion on the floor…
All in favor of Apes bein’ our hostess with the mostess and startin’ us off on Monday with words of wisdom which we shall promptly hijack to heck and back say “Aye.”
AYE!!!
All those opposed [del]like we care what you think[/del] say “Nay.”
::crickets::
The “Ayes” have it. Apes shall [del]provide us with an assortment of Danish and fresh coffee[/del] be our fearless leader for the next MMP.
I should probably have warned you- I’m a crap cook, and never normally get anythingto work- therefore probably anything I do get to work is weird and/or wrong.
Is gettin’ coooold here, and I’m too [del]mean[/del] poor to turn on the heating, seeing as the house is ye olde badly made Victorian Terrace, with the insulation of a colander. Brrr.
