Theatrical Dopers! Plug your upcoming shows!

Next month I will be making my local stage debut in the Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Austin’s production of H.M.S. Pinafore. I’m a 10 year veteran of community theater, but this is without a doubt the finest non-professional company I’ve ever had the privilege of working with.

So who else is preparing to tread the boards this summer?

It’s what I do for a living; I’m a musical director/pianist. Last year I was on the national tour of *Children’s Letters to God * and it looks like we’ll be heading back out this year in late summer.

I just finished a production of Bat Boy: The Musical, which is brilliant. If you don’t know it, check it out!

Too late for a plug, I guess. “My Darling Judith” by Norm Foster, presented by Stellar Productions in (the thriving metropolis of) Aurora, Ontario closes on Sunday.

I hate closing with a matinee. It’s so… anticlimactic.

I bet you there’s a bunch of people who hang in Cafe Scoiety that do theatre of one sort or another. I know there’s a bunch of musical fans. If only I could sing…

Well, since someone else started the thread…

COME ONE COME ALL. If you live in the Los Angeles area, head out to Hollywood at the end of June and see my Production of KING LEAR. It will be performed at the Complex Theater on Santa Monica and Wilcox, right in the heart of Theater Row. It will be running for three weekends starting June 23rd. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

What’s that you say? Hollywood isn’t the right neighborhood? You want to keep you weekend evenings free, and you love fresh air? Well, after those first three weeks you can head out to Moorpark Park in Studio City, where we will be performing at 4pm on Saturday and Sunday FOR FREE. Bring chairs and a blanket, picnicking is encouraged.

So come out and see KING LEAR, your will laugh (a little) you will cry (it is a tragedy), you will be shocked by the Dream Ballet (you think I’m kidding? )

Faster paced Othello, shorter than Hamlet, and funnier than MacBeth. KING LEAR by the Charlens Co., directed by ME. Coming soon.

Hmmm . . . well, we actually opened in November, but what the hell. I’m currently in Jersey Boys.

I’m only a musician, but I do get to appear onstage and prance around a bit in the second act, so maybe that counts as treading the boards.

I guess it’s no use “plugging” it (it’s sold out already and I doubt anyone here would really want to see it) but I’ve just finished night three (of five) for my high school production of Sweet Charity.

I’m playing Charity.

Next thursday I have a production of “Proof” opening at College of the Mainland in LaMarque Texas (Near Houston). Runs four weeks. (Lighting Design.) Currently running in Houston at the Ensemble Theatre is a my production of “The Colored Museum.” (Lighting) Runs a couple of more weeks. Later this June I will be working on “Sparkle” for the Ensemble. Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat for College of the Mainland. (Both Lighting) I also will have the Children’s Theatre Festival of Houston (Sound Design) and my annual foray into the Houston Shakespeare Festival. (Sound Design) This will be my 21st year with the Shakespeare Festival. We do two shows each summer running in rep. Performed at Miller Outdoor Theatre in Hermann Park. (In Houston)

This year has been a terribly light year for me. Only 22 Productions.

The most productions I’ve done in one year was 31. Not counting the one night wonders I would do for a Magician I work with.

I had dress rehearsal tonight for the aforementioned “Proof.” Tommorrow I start my first weekend off in almost two months. I need the rest. It can be wearing to be so popular.

Everyone is invited to See my shows this summer.

Just dropping in to say that I thought this thread was called “Theoretical Dopers!” I was ready to join a debate about whether or not Der Trihs exists.

Enjoy your theatre thread.

I’ve just signed up with the local community theatre group for my first ever go at being part of a production.

The mad woman of Challiot will be on in November

Well, I wouldn’t mind seeing a decent production of King Lear, and I can walk to Santa Monica and Wilcox.

I put on a comedy and music cabaret kinda show about once a month, called the BIG Rock n’ Roll Comedy Show - next show is Tuesday May 16th (Fountain and Vine, same neighborhood as your Complex Theater).

You make an effort to come to the BIG Rock n’ Roll Comedy Show sometime, and I’ll make an effort to get out to see King Lear. (There’s an e-mail address on the linked site. Make sure to send me a King Lear reminder.)

Yeah, I got mad and clicked on “Submit Reply” twice. :smack:

Hey that’s funny… two NYC theatre musicians on the Dope! Your email isn’t listed… drop me a line sometime.

I suppose it kinda closed last Sunday, but I just finished a run of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. We were lucky enough to have a director and most of our designers (lighting, set, costumes) hired over from the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
