Last August I had a couple of bumps suddenly appear on the back of my neck, oozing puss.
I have a typical pasty Scottish complexion, and I live in sunny Saskatchewan, so I’m well aware of the risks of skin cancer.
Went to my GP in September. He looked at them and said, “Yup, they should come off. Not a crisis, but I’ll give you a referral to a plastic surgeon.”
While I’m waiting for my appointment with the plastic surgeon, another big bump started forming on my back. Felt at first like a bad pimple, but never healed. Way bigger than the neck bumps.
Early December, saw the plastic surgeon. “Yes,” he said, looking at my neck bumps, “they should come off.”
I said, “I’ve also got this bigger one on my back” and showed it to him.
He took one look at it and said “I’ll take that off too.” No hesitation.
Went to day surgery this week. Bumps are gone from neck and back. As he was leaving, he tapped my foot and said, “Went well.” (He’s not effusive.)
Big dressing on the back, and it hurts more than the neck incision, so I assume he had to take more off to get rid of it.
Now wait for lab results, and avoid showers.
