The nitpick in question resulted from someone saying the “red-neck racist thread.” Since that’s your thread, you obviously know you titled it, in part, “punk ass racist.” Ergo, you’re nitpicking over the term “red-neck” vs. “punk ass.” If you weren’t nitpicking, you wouldn’t have brought that up in the first place.
And I repeat that others made quite substantive points in their posts, in my opinion – points that directly responded to the meat of your OP. Why you would choose that post (or, indeed, mine) to which to respond makes no sense.

I don’t agree with the view count premise, though I haven’t done a statistical analysis, I’ve seen many a thread, ones with sexual content that have tons of views but very little replies. If my pointing the particular irony of the situation makes some feel guilty, oh well. As for me being a one trick pony, you’re entitled to your opinion. Well, because your thread has a well known poster being pitted, people come in droves. Also, my belief is that Poster pittings attract more replies/views because it’s not likely in threads like “Stupid waiter” or “I had a really bad day” the pitted will come and defend themselves.
Plus, theres the shock factor that draws them in: Kind of like pitting Esprix for being proud for being gay( I believe that’s what he got pitted for) or saying “Random Poster, Satanist, misogynist, communist-nazi bastard!” type things in the topic title.

Few of us have had to go through what Payne N. Diaz’s has gone through, so once there are posts from dopers saying ‘I’ve been through that, and I can only tell that it will get better’ there is very little that us fortunate dopers can say, and anything we do say will seem hollow in comparison.

EasyPhil, as a thoroughly disinterested observer, all I’m saying is that you’re coming across badly. I recommend backing off, and just letting this one go. The racist thread was a mistake. This thread was a mistake. Move on.
But even if that’s the case, is it a prerequisite to have experienced what someone else has in order to be able to empathize with them? If I see someone get hit by a car, and I have never had that happen to me, I know that it hurt. I think it’s a mis-conception to think that what you would say would seem hollow.
Not a prerequisite, but when those with experience have put in there word it feels a bit presumptious to say things when you have no idea what the person’s situation is like.
It would feel like reading a thread between astro-physics majors about general relativity, and then adding “I’ve heard of Relativity, isn’t that what Einstein inveted”. It also depends on the thread, if it was a “I’m depressed, life sucks, I need a hug” type thread then everyone with a hear too could add there good wishes. But the thread by Payne N. Diaz was mentioning very specific life events, and seemed to be looking for advice/help from those who had been through such things.
Seeing the names of people I respect dissagreeing with your surmise of the punk assed rasist thread reaction, I doubt I would feel differently about the thread. But…
your OP, in title at least, is spot on. Things are getting tetchy arround here. It’s no fault of anyone, and I think the Mods are acting well to diffuse the situation (c.f. banning political soap boxing in GQ), this is the effect of the looming war on everyones psychie IMHO.
