There's no diversity like liberal diversity

Even when they are getting paid by the university to train RAs to administer the new diversity program? Train school employees to administer, not educate students in general. Do you feel the materials used in that training are still immaterial? If that’s your position, I suppose we’ll have to agree to disagree then.

Of course there are stupid liberal posters on this board. Your considered view seems to be that if you post a stupid conservative post, it evens the balance somehow. Nice to know that’s how your mind works. Idiot.

If you think that I haven’t castigated Der Trihs for being a fucking moron, you are wrong; I have done so several times (most recently yesterday or the day before). Most liberals on this board think Der Trihs is an asshole. Idiot.

Of course, liberalism without common sense leads to stupidity. The same can be said of conservatism, and often does. Transformation Ex-Gay Ministries, anyone? Idiot.

Conclusion: you’re a fucking idiot.

Weirddave, you are a total fucking cock. This cunt isn’t the Emperor of all liberals and only a cock would use her dumbshit antics to generalise about anyone else.

Ahh, liberals. Gotta love it. When presented with the egregious actions of one of their own they can’t simply condemn them and be done with it. Nope, they have to make sure to attack the person pointing it out. Don’t ever change guys and gals, don’t ever change. It’s highly amusing to watch.

The “topic.” such as it is, is barely worthy of comment, particularly given your egregious representation of the issue in the OP. It really is one of the more incoherent and misdirected rants i’ve seen on the boards.

Had you framed it intelligently and honestly, we might have had a reasonable discussion about whether this woman’s attitude to race relations is productive or stupid, and whether or not an institution like U. Delaware should be using her to train its Residence Life staff.

But no, you just marched in ranting and raving like a fucking idiot, and making your usual blanket assertions about “liberal” thought and its contribution to the decline of America. Your claim that the quote in the OP represented “U of D’s indoctrination guidelines” is indicative of your general posting style, in that it is both needlessly hyperbolic and incorrect.

I have an opinion about Dr. Butler’s interpretation of what racism means, one that is far from being in complete agreement with her, but i’m not really interested in discussing it with a fucking lunatic. Sorry.

Just a few weeks ago, in a thread in which i was discussing a particular bunch of conservatives, i made the observation that:

It was very clear that i was speaking, in that post, about the particular conservatives who were ragging on the Frost family, yet you still felt the need to say:

Physician, heal thyself.

Maybe you should read the entire thread before going off half cocked. You sit here and call me an idiot, yet your reason cited is a point I made a couple of dozen posts ago. Nice try.

Several people in this thread have said she’s an idiot.

And we not criticizing you for daring to challenge one of our idols. We’re criticizing you for using the actions of one idiot to draw conclusions about liberals. You know, sort of like if I said, “Weirddave is a fucking idiot; therefore, conservatives are all fucking idiots.”

Oh, but I forgot, liberals do it, so it’s okay for conservatives to do it. Gotcha ya.

I can’t say for certain what my dad’s background is. His mother was half Central American Indian and half more generically Salvadoran, but of course that implies a European origin at some point. My wife’s family can also trace their roots back to Spain via the Dominican Republic.

But that’s irrelevant, in the same way that a black man may well have a white ancestor or Founding Father in his ancestry, but is still not a racist by this concept.

So, nope, sorry, I reject your White attempt to make me join in the Guilt of Oppression that has kept me down for so long, racist paleface.

Well, I called her a cunt. If that’s not condemnation I don’t know what is. And I’m attacking you not for pointing it out but for attempting to use this cunt’s loony ravings to tarnish all liberals. It seems to me that you have no problem practising on liberals the same kind of bullshit you claim to despise when practised on Conservatives. I think the real question here is “Does this make you a hypocrite or just an idiot?”

Very well—I condemn her. I think she’s an attention-seeking moron and her “philosophy” is ludicrous. You may mark me down as having stated, for the record, that I condemn her actions and her position. If there is paperwork to be signed, please submit it to me as soon as possible.

I haven’t ever seen you state unequivocally that you disagree with Hitler’s methods. In the meantime, may I assume you to be in full support?

OK. Prove it. Make your argument. So far, Giraffe has been the only one to attempt this, and I have replied, including links, and stated my own reason for believing that classifying the text from the OP as “U of D’s indoctrination guidelines” is appropriate. When a university hires someone to train their employees to administer a school program, the training materials used are indicative of what the school wants from the program. I still have seen nothing that convinces me why this should not be so. Tall me why it shouldn’t.

“The person in the OP is a complete loon for believing this”.

No, I really don’t see any link between the loonyism cited and liberalism. Sorry.

Sorry, you don’t get to act like a blithering idiot and then pretend you want a rational discussion.

As i suggested in my last post, i have a bunch of observations i could make about the woman’s attitudes to race. And, as someone who takes an uncommon interest in the professional and education responsibilities of universities, i also have some ideas about why your use of the term “U of D indoctrination guidelines” is misguided. But i’m not interested in discussing them with you.

If someone came up to me in person and said “You liberals are all stupid assholes. Would you care to make a rational argument defending the liberal worldview?”, i’d tell him to take a fucking hike. Same goes for some tool on a message board.

Oh dear, you are just digging a deeper hole for yourself now aren’t you?

First you castigate ‘liberals’ because of what this loon in the link says. Then when people point out you are overgeneralising, you seem to think that ‘tu quoque’ is a justification. It is not.

When a poster upthread rightly mocks your previous attempts to present yourself as a moderate, noting that you are liberal-bashing without just cause, you crap on them for not sticking to the subject. Then, without a trace of self-awareness, you post your ‘Ahh, liberals’ tripe above. You are a dishonest hypocrite.

You moan that people give Der Trihs a free ride. They point out that they do no such thing. You are a liar.

One more thing. With reference to ‘liberals’, you say that the woman in the OP is ‘one of their own’.

Now I’ll just ask you if you really think that, after a moment’s reflection.

Is she ‘one of their own’, or isn’t she?

Be careful. If you answer ‘yes she is’, I’m afraid I will have to ask you whether a KKK member is one of your own. (recall your response to Miller)

…Oh, another thing then: do you actually understand that the reason people piled up on you wasn’t because they can’t ‘just condemn and be done with it’, it’s because you declared these ideas to be liberal ideas. If you have a beef with what the woman said, pit it. Don’t insert the word ‘liberal’ for shits and giggles and then moan that self-identified liberals are taking you to task.

  1. How about a cite that she’s a liberal?
  2. An opinion is not an “action.”
  3. No one in this thread has supported her.
  4. You dishonestly represented her views as official University policy and even more risibly represented them as the views of “liberals” in general in your thread title. That means that simple condemnation of the individual in question would be an incomplete response to your OP. It is disingenuous for you to cry about being “personally attacked” just because you’re getting called on the distortions and misrepresentations in your own posts.

What happened between the time of my father’s conservativism and now? Did some form of partisan olestra make many conservatives brains leak out their puckered buttholes? So many of them seem incapable of basic reasoning or logic, like this OP.

It’s really quite a sad state of affairs.

We made with the attack? You used this story as an excuse to make a baseless attack against liberalism in general. And when liberals defend themselves, you act like you’re the innocent victim. You’re full of shit, Dave. If you wanted to make this pit thread about this woman, you’d have made it about this woman. Instead, you specifically crafted it as a provocation for a fight. And when you get exactly the response you were looking for, you whine like a little bitch. That’s a real shame, because I remember a time when you actually had something worth contributing to this board. Now, you’re just part of the asshole chorus that makes genuine political debate all but impossible anymore.

I’ve worked academic libraries for a number of years now, and not in a back room either. I have spent every working minute directly assisting students and faculty of the various universities as either a reference or circulation librarian, and I think I can put this one in perspective.

First of all, whether Dr. Butler is officially affiliated with the university or not, the fact that she was hired by that university for diversity training of their RA’s is pretty damning, and as far as that’s concerned, I’m with Weirddave on this one. I would say that pretty much proves that the university condones her views enough to give her money to train, unless you want to argue that the university hired her for some other reason without realizing that she held these views and that it was just all a confusin’ coinkidink. I mean, I’m no liberal myself, but if my university needed a trainer for our Dean of International Studies and just happened to pick David Duke, I would suddenly have quite a few serious questions, his qualifications as a trainer be damned.

And that brings me to why Weirddave is wrong about “liberal diversity”. Dr. Butler is no more a liberal than Mr. Duke is a conservative. They’re both radicals, and that fact is behind the reason I’m planning on getting out of academia and into business.

See, if universities and colleges were being run by liberals, I would have no problems. As a conservative, I’m quite happy to recognize the good that liberals have done, such as desegregation, FDR’s various programs, unions–the list goes on. I have liberal friends, and we have discussions, and I find them to be open-minded and fair about pretty much everything. Liberals are good people. The problem is that universities are not being run by liberals. They’re being run by the radical left.

Oh yes they are! Our library along with every other library in the Boston area watched as across the Charles River, Larry Summers got drummed out of his position at Harvard due to some innocuous remark. It wasn’t the students who drummed him out, either, but a few academic bullies who couldn’t stand to hear even a whiff of criticism toward their canon. All across the nation, conservative speakers are routinely shouted down, and some are physically attacked. Students are harrassed and threatened for voicing conservative opinions and they are mocked for their religious beliefs by professors who couldn’t survive outside of their dusty offices and tenured positions for a year. For the past eight years, I’ve seen it, I’ve heard it, and I’m disgusted by it, and next year, I’m going to start on my second masters in business, not education and start looking for a corporate job pretty much for this reason.

Oh yes, corporate is a pain in the ass, and the hours are long, and I’ll probably never make THAT much money, but at least corporate people have experience in the real world. I’ve seen the consequences of spending too much time on Planet College, and there’s no way I’m going to allow it to happen to me. Radicalism has a way of yielding to reality that is starting to appeal to me more and more.

The highjacking of the GOP by the religious right. The same lack of intellectual curiosity and intolerance of dissenting views that perpetuates their religion has turned reasoned conservative thought into rigid right-wing dogma, impervious to logic.
