There's no more home, an MMP

Good morning.

I watched the swearing in and inauguration speech, but that’s about it.

I’m off today because of MLK Day, but tomorrow and for the next few months, will be in the office nearly every day, including weekends. I’m not looking forward to this at all.

For now though, I’m enjoying some coffee and then will knock out some chores around the house.

I’m sorry about your race,** Spidey.**

Morning, all!

Spidey, I feel for you. I had a different thought when I read “there’s no more home”. It’s been a while since I felt like I had a home. Home was always the house where I grew up. No matter where I was, I always knew I could go home. Then, the parents moved, and the house was no longer mine to call home (they sold it to a family, which provides some solace). Since then, I’ve really felt like I don’t have a home anymore.

I have an apartment, which is just a roof over my head. My parents own a home, and it’s . . . nice, but it’s not home. My brother owns a home, but there’s nothing sentimental or homey about it. It’s really just a tech cave kitted out to his specifications.

I miss having a home, and I wonder if I’ll ever be able to put one together myself.

Scones, condolences on your kneeiversary. Knees are sneaky. I’ve had my left one give out on me a couple of times. Always in the most embarrassing circumstances possible.

Monday is Monday. We had two departments move over the weekend, and it’s all insane and not working today. I’ve got three more computers to roll out, a fourth to refresh, and multiple people clamoring for peripherals now that they finally have desk space. No one answers when I call them, but as soon as I get busy on something else, they start yelling that they need their stuff.

Whew - I need a break, so I’m taking it. The 4th load of laundry is in the washer. All trash and most of the recyclables are gone (I missed one box in the garage. I’ve procured all the molding and most of the other stuff I wanted from Lowe’s. True to form, I forgot to look to see if they had black phone jack plate mount thingies - our off-white one looks very out of place now that we’ve painted.

I also stopped at CVS, Food Lion, filled the truck, and went to meet **FCD **for lunch, but I’d forgotten my phone so I couldn’t call and by the time I got there, he was already eating. Alas… So I came home and now I’m having some leftovers while boiling some eggs. Poke chops for supper, with salad and sides of some sort. I’ve still got to empty the dishwasher, vacuum, then spot clean the carpet, and throw supper together. Plus I bought a chuck roast that’s going to be pot-roasted for tomorrow.

I didn’t forget about the inauguration since it’s dominated local TV and my NPR station all morning. But I didn’t watch - I’m just not that interested. I suppose I should attend at least one before I die…

Eggs are done - off to chill them.

No, it’s tomorrow. I just celebrated today since I had to go out and all.

Caribbean restaurant was num. They had the music up too loud, though (damn kids). Of course, that’s everywhere. They had the inauguration playing on the TV. That crowd was quite large. Far too big for my comfort and I’m three states away! I don’t envy you having to sit in that 2gig. (Can you tell I don’t do big crowds?)

Ruble, if it’s the race I’m thinking of, we did that one too…& it’s been dead for a while.

Mooommmm, I’ve participated in, worked for (or both) too many parades to just go watch one. I was flipping channels one day last month & the Disney holiday parade was on. I was trying to see everything they weren’t focusing on: How big are the crowds, how many handlers for the balloons, how vertical do they fly, how are the floats propelled? In other words, I wasn’t watching the parade, I was watching the technical aspects of the parade. 20± years in the biz will do that to a person. Started there with the same company that did the races.

Mebbe there’s a boy who was playing hide-n-go-seek behind his sister. Hey, isn’t there some mumper with boy/girl twins; about 5yo ifn I remembers correctly?
runs off to play hide-&-not-be-found-til-it’s-safe-to-come-out

Spidey, that stinks. Hopefully they’ll get it running again next year.

Cinnamon Imp, I greatly enjoy my kids being out of the house, and can hardly wait till the little one goes to kindergarten in August. I’m definitely a “how can I miss you if you won’t go away” parent these days. But two is pretty damn little. I think it’s normal to feel attached at the hip at that age and miss 'em when they’re gone.

Today I am attempting to get two different ornery appliances seen to. I have accomplished a lot of household management this morning though, and I am thoroughly enjoying my (kinda) new La-Z-Boy recliner couch and loveseat, which I got off Craigslist at a ridiculously good price, right when I couldn’t stand my nasty broken down furniture anymore. So it’s a good Monday, all in all.

I also smell of leather and orange blossom today, which is lovely. I might have to buy a full 5mL of this perfume!

Well, if by “5yo” you mean “Almost 16 Y.O.” then yeah, there is one

Sorry about your race…

Tomorrow’s Election Day here. Plus side – it’s an official Paid Vacation day. Minus side – my end of the political spectrum is gonna get clobbered. Again… :o

SpiceDevil in eleven years you will want to put a sign around her neck that says “Free To Good Home” and stand her outside of Target. Is that any consolation?

What? I think my parents tried that with me except it was in front of the Piggly Wiggly. Remember I grew up in a small town so everybody was all “Dear Og No! Not that one! One of the others maybe, but not that one!”

This is the first time in years, literally, that I am not in the DC area for the Inauguration! I moved to DC in 1975, so it’s been since 1977 so that’s 9 of em. Good grief, I’m ancient! As FCM noted, it’s wall-to-wall coverage on the local stations; I think some of em even have folks going to the balls - no Inaugural balls for you, eh 2gig? Not a bad gig (LOL I made a pun!) unless it’s cold and/or snowy that is!

I’m not ready to move back east just yet, though! I think I am becoming very acclimated to the dry weather here. I know I’m not missing the humidity at all. Only problem is with dry skin, but I can deal with that I think.

Well, I hope that everyone is staying as well as they can. Rosie’s .sig to anyone who needs it.

Lamb stew burbling on the stove.

Morning, all.

Stopped off at the liberry on the way to work to check my email and found that it’s closed today because somebody’s getting inoculated clear on the other side of the continent. How does that make any sense at all?

I ate too many cookies today.

Monster!

I invented the Peach Egg Cream.

Poke chops were yum! I’s stuffded! **FCD **is doing the dishes.

He told me not to go into work tomorrow unless he calls, so another day of chores and stuff. I’ll get a fire going in the basement, then start painting the molding and trim for the kitchen. And I want to do a pot roast, so I don’t have to build it tonight. Yay!

Ok, I wasn’t going to share this with anyone but phoukaroo, but dammit, I’m pretty excited. Obviously I have a long way to go but it isn’t just my kneeiversary, it’s also the day that I hit 70 pounds gone. I owe so much of this to D, my constant inspiration.:heart::heart:

Yay!!

Way to go, Sticky!!!

Hm. WebSense says that link leads to “inappropriate content”, so I’m assuming that’s a pretty spicy-looking picture. Yay! Sort of. :frowning:

It is still a girl and it is still only one!!
And those 5 yo twins may not be long for this earth if they keep fighting with each other
