I heard the scritch-scritch-scritching and looked up the chimney with a flash light. There were about 8 little red eyes looking back at me – a nest of raccoons!
I don’t know a lot about hedgehogs, but I recall a line from T.H. White’s The Sword in the Stone which has always puzzled me:
HEDGEHOG (speaking to Wart, in the form of a badger, who has just spared the Hedgehog’s life): Us shall bless the saints and boards of governors for thee, sor, so long as fleas skip nor urchins climb up chimbleys!
Do hedgehogs also nest in chimneys?
