I’m talking of the Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiler and fans. When I’d earlier started a thread about really partisan blogs, I wondered if I’d ever find a good example.
I mean, I looked just in the comments for the gay marriage post, and there were assertions that homosexuality is a dysfunction (in the mental disease sense; though that wasn’t stated outright, that’s the feeling I got - I was too scared to click on the link provided), as well as a cavalier dismissal that there are any benefits for homosexuals to gain by marriage. But then I looked at the rest, and two things struck me: an underlying lust for the blood of certain groups (I may be wrong, but that’s what I got), and the name calling, my God. Both showed an intensity of hatred that was kind of startling.
I know I shouldn’t be reading these kinds of places if it gets my blood pressure up so, but like an idiot, sometimes I do anyway. Where do we categorize these people? Can their mode of thinking possibly be significant in any sense of the word? If so, I’m a lot more scared than I ever was…
(Caveat: admittedly, given some of the worse rhetoric of the blogger and his louder fans, there are definite, and sometimes not insignificant, signs of sanity on both their parts that I can respect. But the more venomous stuff really does make me shake my head and wonder.)
