Yanno, Zev, you can really harsh those yahoo’s world by simply stepping up to them, in person, and just thanking 'em for telling you how powerful you are. You, like me, probably had no idea just how powerful we were until they told us we were in charge. ;j

Okay, I’ve never had the chutzpah to give some idiot protester on 42nd street a fit like that. But I have thought about it.

There are some things I just can’t understand. I try and I try and I try, but eventually my brain just makes a little squeaking noise, curls up in a ball, and rolls into a poorly-lit corner of my skull and hides until it forgives me.

This is one of those things. Now I’ve got to go and find my SkullBroom to knock my brain out of the corner again - I guess that’s what I get for reading the Dope while I should be writing an essay for school.

On a more serious note: How do people get these ideas? I understand that, in any multi-cultural/-ethnic/-religious/etc setting, there’s going to be some minority that gets blamed things. But don’t people realize that whatever given minority group is most likely just going to want to go about their lives, just like everyone else? I’d assume that sort of by definition, the majority of Orthodox Jews want to make a living for themselves, obey their religious laws, have a family, and so on: if you get fucked over by your landlord, it’s probably beacuse they’re a dick, not because they’re Jewish.

I hope no one told this guy about Crown Heights.

As E-Sabbath said, this is particularly Orthodox jews. The neighborhood he pointed out that is at Flushing and Bedford is a big ghetto that was engineered over the last five years by a Hasidic segment of the population who moved into an area, and occupied it. It’s very ironic because you can see the Hasids on one side of Division avenue and the Hispanics on the other. I mean this literally, one side of the street is Hasidic, the other side is Hispanic.

The thing that seperates Hasidim from other ethnicities is that they congregate out of a sense of purity, that the rest of us do not adhere to. I feel I must point out that I think this is just fine, and do not see a problem with it. However, there is a certain amount of cultural disrespect that comes about with it. For instance this morning the Hasidic management company sent by some plumbers to work on a leak. Today is Sunday, a day of rest for us goys. If I attempted to extract any sort of labor from them on a Saturday, that would be considered a supreme disrespect. However, there is a casual disrespect for our culture as we are “not pure”.

However, as E-Sabbath pointed out, it’s not like they are living in much better accomodations than they are providing for us, except that the handyman is their cousin and will come over and fix things for them immediately. One of my friends pointed out that he believes that most of their children need glasses because they try to save money by using 40 watt lightbulbs.

Erek

Mmmhm. Erek’s comments, (This guy’s a loony, mind you, the subject of the Op), aren’t anti-semitic, so much as commentary on that group over there, which we all kind of know about, and happen to be of hasidic nature. Certainly, their clannish ways are prime for that sort of thing to pop up about, but they’re not… unfair, just cheap.

Of course, I’m part of the B&T crew, so what do I know? (Mother’s side is jewish, and both my grandfather and his father were builders)
