They made a reference to the Straight Dope on the local (Vancouver) news today!

They did a little filler story on kopi luwak coffee, which has been retailing at Robson St. vendors for upwards of $600.[sup]oo[/sup]\lb. Predictably, the story was really only two or three minutes of coffee buyers giggling when they heard about it.

However, towards the end of it, they said “it’s time to seperate fact from fiction about kopi luwak” – and as they said that, they flashed Senor Slugorino’s illustration from the master’s column on the subject – which leads me to think that the bulk of the writer’s research involved checking in with the Straight Dope.

Wow! Some worthwhile human knowledge made it onto the Tee Vee – even if it did take a year-and-a-half. There may be hope for the medium yet.

On the off-chance that anyone cares, it was the evening news on CKVU - CityTV Vancouver

Cecil’s message is a riot! And do people pay 600 U.S. dollars for that shit?

Well, Larry lives in Canada. So that’s roughly the equivalent of $4.25 US.

Oh my goodness. I don’t generally watch the news on Friday nights since I’m usually out with my friends doing assorted things. But I’ve certainly heard of that coffee. Darned expensive stuff. (Robson Street? Bring the expensive stuff on! :)) I think it was listed in the Guinness Book of Records recently as being the most expensive coffee, at any rate.
