They'd have to pay me!

I’d go to baseball and pro football games for a free ticket and all-I-drink beer and food. And transportation round trip, too.

But somehow, nobody is making me any offers…

Wait a minute! If there’s free food, that changes everything! There’s a whole lot I’d do (attending spectator sports, some kinds of noisy concerts, Republican rallies) if there’s going to be free food!

I attended the births of both my daughters (my wife had c-sections with both). It was the coolest thing I have ever witnessed.

I do not think I could attend anyone else’s birth.

$500 to step foot outside of my house for any reason whatsoever. I’m cocooning.

It would take at least $25,000 for me to see a modern horror movie.

$1 million to ride on a rollercoaster.

Musicals and their evolutionary sibling in torture, opera are overwhelmingly in that list. Pay for the ticket, a nice dinner before, and a for couple hundred I’d suffer through. An exception, I’d go see book of Mormon with a free ticket. The latest big thing in musicals with lots of buzz, like Hamilton last year, there’s an extra tax of a couple hundred for putting up with the audience.

I’m reasonable. A C-note gets me to a country-western concert, ballet, or opera. A grand to attend a HRC or Sanders speech. Various entertainers and golf fall somewhere between the two.

I don’t like to fly, I will white-knuckle it IF I have to. But, (and I mean a big but) There is not enough money in the world to put me a plane going over an ocean. Nope, ain’t gonna happen!

Can I arrange to be paid for going to the doctor or dentist?

Yet it’s far, far safer than being in a car.

My principles are cheaper than that. I’d attend a Trump ralley for $200+. I would be willing to wear a MAGA hat and appear to be an actual supporter for $500+.

I would need way more than that. The offer would have to include; ear plugs, sedatives, a body guard and ONE MILLION DOLLARS.

Particularly when going over the ocean.

I agree - not picking on you, RivkahChaya, but this sounds like a “Say this in hypothetical but in real life would be different” thing; in fact wouldn’t you or a like-minded person probably do it in a heartbeat in real life for “just” $100,000?

Like others, golf. The other would be an awards dinner. Even if I’m getting one of the awards.

Exactly, except put it down by an order of magnitude realistically. I get the idea of making your feelings known with hyperbole, but this is all just blustering bullshit. Not enough money to watch golf? Or a singer? You all must love your jobs that pay much, much less than this assault on your sensibilities. Jeez.

You said it!

I’ll see your awards dinner (for a price) and raise you one: You’d have to pay me a fair chunk of cash for me to attend another wedding, and no amount of money could induce me to attend a wedding if I’m the one getting married.

Like others, sporting events and teenybopper concerts do not appeal to me. I also would never attend an Italian Opera without a huge wodge of cash as lubricant.

There are plenty of widely popular things that I really dislike, but not quite the level of fear or hatred that would require compensation - things like travelling to a poverty-stricken country like India and Mexico, or going on a cruise or ski trip. I’d tolerate things like them and make the most of it where I could, and maybe come away reluctantly admitting I enjoyed myself.

But most loud, crowded social events make my skin crawl and I just want to run away and hide. I’d need a five figure sum before I’d go back to anything like that again soon.

Yeah - I was hoping folk would at least try to be realistic and estimate actual amounts that they would accept to do various things.

Beautiful day, your friends invite you to walk around a pretty landscape (or ride in a cart) enjoying your beverage of choice while occasionally swinging a stick at a ball - and NO AMOUNT of money could get you there?

I think I’d do quite a few distasteful things - attend opera, a political rally of someone I dislike… - for around $250 an hour. I’m sure there are some things that are so distasteful and/or dangerous, that I would not do them for less than $100k - if at all.
