Egg is the nickname for Ann in Arrested Development. Long story. But apparently the same actress is in this show as well. My local paper’s TV guy raved about Thief, but he’s kind of a twit, so I’ll wait and see what the Dopers say about it.
I’m in for some Thief as well. I have enjoyed almost all of the new FX shows that have come out in the last five years or so. Just remember it all started with The Shield.
OH! Her? I didn’t realize she was in it. She’s super cute when they’re not actively trying to make her frumpy, so it might have taken me awhile to recognize her.
No kidding. Mom’s dead and stepdad just shot some guy in the backyard. I really like this show, they’ve done a great job to set up some major suspense and really set the mood.
The only thing I didn’t understand was the chinese guy shooting those two other guys at the beginning. Was that the same guy that saw them at the parade?
I enjoyed it. This series had promise. I am very late to the FX band wagon. I got turned on to The Shield by a friend of my brother in law in time for the latest season. FX now gets to join HBO on my TiVo for original series.
I was quite impressed by the cast list. A lot of familar faces–Braugher, Linda Hamiliton, Michael Rooker, Clifton Collins, Dina Meyer, the aformentioned Egg, Malik Yoba.
I wasn’t knocked out by the first episode, but I will say, the scenes for upcoming episodes look mighty good.
My complaints: the way Braugher’s character so uncharacteristically kept letting the guys break his rules telegraphed what was coming for miles. The character they’d already sketched would not have let the meeting continue in his backyard; he would not have left them there while he went to the hospital; he would not have let the final showdown escalate the way it did. At least, the way it was written did not convince me. It was a screenwriter’s universe, with everything happening only because the plot required it; not because the situation made it seem real.
Yeah, it was out of character. I think that’s the point though. The fact that they’ve become friends makes the whole relationship difficult, because he can’t be authoritative anymore, which adds to the drama. Remember, future criminals, don’t become friends with your business associates.
I was actually surprised to see his connection lady not give in. You hardly ever see people take the attitude of “you’ll kill me anyway, so screw you”. Although she did make up a believable story.
I’m still confused as to why the bad guy killed those two other guys at the beginning… they showed it again during the “last episode” montage.
