Several places here have roped off sections of their parking lots to serve as patios.
When 511 Epidemiologists Expect to Fly, Hug and Do 18 Other Everyday Activities Again (helpful NY Times article)
Same here. Additionally, the state liquor control board has been bending over backwards to help out. They are granting temporary open container licenses for the month of June, allowing an establishment to permit drinking outside.
Ordinarily, if a licensee wants to serve liquor outdoors, they have to apply for a special license, attend hearings, etc. It can take years.
In Chicago, most restaurants don’t have their own parking lots. There have been proposals to block off sections of a couple of streets for outdoor dining.
I might get a haircut at this point if possible. My haircut person has a private little space and I’m sure she’ll wear a mask (as will I). I won’t go back to an open-floor salon for a color yet, because I don’t trust that it’ll be safe.
In another week, nail places can re-open in California. Seems safer than a bar, to me, and bars got the nod earlier.
Nothing. I’m still restricting myself to buying groceries as infrequently as I can manage, and otherwise staying as isolated as possible. I find myself wishing I could just go into hibernation for a year or so and avoid all contact that way…
Some 18 said they were NEVER bringing in the mail again without precautions.
the fuh.
So the epidemiologist said she would be open to dating. If the other person had self quarantined for 14 days, and they met outside, and they both wore masks, and there was no physical contact. Doesn’t that sound like a fun first date?
Not a single thing. Arkansas’s rate is still going up. We reopened too early. Hell, we’re one of those states that never completely closed down, so there was no reason to rush to open up, except a mayor overly focused on “the economy.” Even unemployment was working fine for those who got laid off.
I am still at the same state I was when the whole thing started. I get groceries and the occasional take out (curbside or drive thru) meal. And I’d rather stop doing that, but I can’t afford Amazon’s prices compared to the local Walmart’s, and we can’t get delivery out here. I still sanitize everything in the mail and groceries.
If you’re somewhere where the problem seems more under control, I get it. But, as for me, with my at-risk mother? Things worked fine before, and I don’t see the need to change. Even with things getting worse here, people won’t even wear masks.
<sigh>
I suppose I should try to get a haircut soon. I haven’t had one since January, and I[del]'m starting to[/del] look like a less-grey version of Doc Brown from Back to the Future. The barbershop I frequent is usually empty in the middle of the day, so there’s that at least.
I’d like to go out and treat my sister and I to a steak dinner - it’s been half a year since I’ve eaten anything but my own “cooking” - but I think that’s gonna wait a good long time. I figure on at least one more Covid-19 rebound, and enough sporadic cases to keep me sheltering in place as much as possible. This does not look like a virus I want, since I’m not in the best health anyway. I might wait until a vaccine.
You joke, but I genuinely don’t. Even if it’s just a figure of speech rather than like those idiot protesters, I don’t get why it’s such a priority for so many people, like it’s something they’ve been itching to do but couldn’t while in quarantine.
I’m not saying it’s wrong to want a haircut, and, if it’s safe enough in your neck of the woods, go ahead. But I don’t get the emphasis people put on it.
- I will wear masks in public (noting the exception in 2b) as long as this thing is out there and I could be unknowingly spreading it.
2a. If I go into an enclosed space and see unmasked people, I’m turning around and leaving. Doesn’t matter if the people are spread out or not.
2b. I’m totally cool with people going unmasked in a park or other outdoor situation where it’s not difficult to maintain social distancing, as long as they’re doing so. I might take off my own in a situation like that. I’m already going on hikes and bike rides, and I don’t wear my mask when doing those things.
I am going to bravely take a walk with my stepdaughter through her neighborhood this weekend. Masked. I haven’t seen her since March. What a world.
They are blocking off Main Street in Breckenridge Colorado to do this. I might go through town once a week. Curious how this will turn out.
I’ve trimmed my bangs and sideburns, but that’s a stopgap. I had a video job interview this week and it took forever not to too frowzy. This is necessary because the job would involve video face-to-face telehealth, so I need to look like I didn’t just roll out of bed. I’m thinking about getting clippers and giving myself a buzz. It’s not my best look, but big earrings make it work.
I just got back from getting my haircut. They took my temperature at the door, and we both wore masks. Seems safe enough.
What concerns me about getting a haircut is that I wouldn’t know who has been in the shop before me, and whether they wore masks the whole time. In an enclosed space, their aerosols would still be floating around for awhile.
Right now I’m just letting it grow. I usually get my curly mop trimmed back every 5 weeks, and it’s now been 14 weeks since my last haircut. I’m pretty sure I have more hair right now than I had even in my semi-hippie days of high school and college nearly 50 years ago. I’ve decided to see how far I can push it before I break down and make an appointment to get sheared.
My wife and I have been getting our hair cut by the same stylist for the past >20 years, and she’s also been cutting the Firebug’s hair since we adopted him >10 years ago. I’m thinking of asking what her price would be to bring her stuff over here one afternoon when she’s off, and give us haircuts on our back deck.
Because Covid is spiking in the AZ, and I need my eyebrows, stache, & wild chin hairs waxed, and I don’t see going to the salon in the near future, I splurged on a 10X lighted magnifying mirror. I looked in it one time, I need to remember to sneak up on the fucker the next time. Quelle horreur!!
Outdoor dining is now allowed in my county and I just ate out for the first time since March. Menu was disposable and the staff wore masks, but other than that it was completely normal (real plates and cutlery too). I sat on the patio, but they also had overflow seating in a roped off area of the parking lot (OK, that looked a little odd).
