Things every Doper should know

What knowledge or wisdom have you that you think every Doper would benefit from sharing in?

I don’t mean just things pertaining to the SDMB, though of course such things are welcome. I mean bits or even reams of knowledge you’ve been just WAITING for someone to post a GQ about, so you could show off your book learning or street smarts, on whatever subject. Do you have any special knowledge of scam artists and their schemes? Can you recognize common symptoms of a dangerous illness that, if any Doper is experiencing, should be cause to immediately get themselves to a doctor? Whatever it is, tell us.

  1. Lord love a working man.

  2. Don’t trust Whitey.

  3. See a doctor and get rid of it.

So are you going to tell us?

Rowing in the sport of crew comes mostly from the legs, because you’re pushing off while sitting on moving seats. It certainly DOES NOT look anything like Popeye rowing his boat waving his arms in big circles.
If I had a dollar for every time people say “oh you row” and then start making exaggerated circles with their arms…

The secret to happiness and long life is regular bowel movements and comfortable shoes.

Never get involved in a land war in Asia.
Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line.

Never bring a knife to a gun fight.

It is never over until its over.

When you get to the fork in the road take it.

The secret to easy to tie and easy to untie and yet stays tied shoelaces is to use a double loop instead of a single loop. Also called the Sailer’s knot.

Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. You wouldn’t believe how long it took me to really learn this.

“Times are bad. Children no longer obey their parents, and everyone is writing a book.”

No matter where you go, there you are.

If it sounds to good to be true, it is.

You should call your mother more often. She misses you.

Don’t start none and there won’t be none .

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize!

“If you sit anywhere long enough, you’ll die.” -Ancient YiP proverb.

We are all responsible for our own actions.
To thine own self be true.
Never draw to an inside straight.
Never lie down with a person who has more problems than you do.
Talk it out, then listen it in.

Whitey who? :dubious:

-if it’s raining, regardless of the time of day, turn on your headlights.

-those people on the screen? They can’t hear you, but the rest of us can.

-‘too’ meaning ‘also’ is ‘too’. ‘two’ as a number 2 is ‘two’. All the rest are ‘to’.

By that logic no one ever lies down with anyone else. Someone ALWAYS has more problems.

Whitey Herzog, obviously.

“Okay” is not the same as “thank you.”

The one thing I think everyone could benefit from knowing:

We can only control our own actions and reactions. If another person’s actions are offensive, hurtful or otherwise troubling we cannot change that – we can only change how we react to them.

This is a lesson that I learned many years ago, and have been trying to instill within my children.

Oh yeh, and the difference between your/you’re, two/too/to, lose/loose, their/there/they’re, etc would be nice

There are three musts that hold us back: I must do well. You must treat me well. And the world must be easy.
