Things that are legal where you are, but not in Chicago

As some may know, recreational cannabis will soon be legal nationwide in Canada (barring any last-minute glitches). After that happens, will it be allowed to discuss it on these boards, given that they are based in Chicago (I think), where recreational pot is not legal?

It is not permitted to encourage on this board any activity which is illegal in Chicago.

Putting ketchup on a hot dog.

Yuck

That’'s in exceedingly bad taste but technically not illegal. This certainly distresses many Chicagoans, I’m sure.

That’s not breaking the law.
That is sinning.

So…talking about buying liquor after 6 A.M. but before 8 A.M., on a Sunday, would be OK, as long as we say it would be wrong?

There is a large array of firearms whose ownership is legal where I am, but not in Chicago (and probably not in Canada).

That’s not what the rules say at all. The rules talk about not encouraging activity that is illegal in the US. Maybe that’s splitting hairs.

I and others have posted many times on how to obtain a medical marijuana card in California and other medically legal states. Is this not ok now?

Well any home repair threads where replacing a carpet comes up requires one to sing that song!

The rules say U.S., which leads to an obvious problem when U.S. rules aren’t uniform across the country (as with marijuana). What we have always done in that case is defer to the laws in Chicago. This isn’t anything new.

It depends. A question that is very California specific (such as how to apply for a medical marijuana card in that state) wouldn’t apply to someone using marijuana illegally in their own state, and therefore would probably not fall under the category of encouraging illegal drug use. On the other hand, I’m sure someone could easily come up with a post that does come off as encouraging marijuana use in general, which would not be allowed.

Recreational marijuana use has been legal in some areas for quite some time. Nothing is changing with respect to the SDMB and its rules, and nothing is changing in how we are enforcing those rules.

We generally allow discussions about laws and what is legal and what is not. We also generally allow discussions about the effects of all sorts of substances legal and otherwise, as long as it is from a medical point of view and doesn’t assume use. In other words, a question like “what does marijuana do to the human body” is fine, but “I’m smoking a joint, what is it going to do to my body” is not.

If the laws in Chicago change, then the rules here will change. Until then, it’s business as usual around here. Canada changing its laws doesn’t really affect anything with respect to our rules.

Feh!

“Behold those creatures that walk like men. They want ketchup on their hot dogs!”

Peasants real anarchists go f or salsa and BBQ sauce on theirs…

T

Peasants everyone who has indoor plumbing knows the real anarchists go f or salsa and BBQ sauce on theirs… sometimes both at the same time!

There is no state in the US where marijuana is legal, whether for medical or recreational use. There are places where it is only against one set of laws, not two.

Not to mention you’d have to be 21.

You should put your “how to purchase a large array of firearms legally and smuggle them into Chicago and probably Canada” thread on hold for the time being.

If anyone has a real need to learn about the benefits of medical marijuana there are many other places that offer this public service. Ironic that they call this the *dope *but the one thing you can’t talk about is…

…Ed’s beef with Biggie.
