Things that go "HELP!!!!" in the night... my first MMP

Of course. It wouldn’t be a party otherwise…
Real life, NASA office parties are about the lamest I’ve ever been to. Something about maintaining their goody-two-shoes image… But then I’ve never been to a truly wild office party in the 25 years I’ve been working.

Glad everything turned out ok. What a cool memory to file away in the “Awesome Stuff That Happened To Me” drawer! I know I’m not alone when I say that any woman who’s gone through a long labor (cough) Kalhoun (cough) wishes they could just stop, drop and deliver. My son had to be pried out with a crowbar!

Aagh. The idea of giving bith in the street is making my legs cross and clench. It makes a lovely story, but… gahh.

canineservant, is this your first time watching Firefly?

Oooh…Firefly…I loved that little series, at one point it was pretty much the only thing worth watching. Then 'im indoors had to buy the DVD set because he managed to miss one episode, and I got to watch the whole lot again. Bliss!

Yay! Just had an email from a friend suggesting we cruise round the German Market in Brum tomorrow after work. That’ll be gluhwein for me, then.

Hey ya’ll.

I’m back again.

I let my stupid membership lapse, so I’ve been out of the loop. Nice MMP there BBS2K, what a cool thing to witness! Sorta. Babies are oogy.

Nice OP, Sweets. I’ve always imagined myself giving birth in the back of a car or something, just because I’m such a procrastinator. (And good luck to Gran!)

Rigs. you’re going to have to explain the “dirty birth” concept. In case of infection and stuff?

Yay welby! (And yay Firefly, but never mind that now.)

Let’s see … what did I do this weekend? I made candles (some uberstinky peppermint ones that actually made my eyes water when I poured the wax, as well as some apple cider and butter cookie candles), I went to a birthday party at a Japanese hibachi place (my first time at such an event–when the guy flipped the chicken at me, I caught it in my mouth on the first try, thank you), and I did some cleaning. I picked up my Prom Dress for New Years’, and I folded sweaters, and then last night I deleted all the music off my computer, so I could re-organize it. I have returned over a thousand songs to my hard drive in preparation for Mom giving me an iPod for Christmas, and I still have a ways to go. What makes me cringe is the thought of all the mix CDs I have that I’ll have to go through song by song, looking for stuff that isn’t in my main bought-CD collection. I know this isn’t terribly interesting to most of you, but it’s what occupies my mind this morning.

I have three more presents I need to buy before Friday, when I head down to Mom and Dad’s for the weekend. Then a metric buttload of shopping to do on Friday the 22nd, when I get paid, before our annual party on the 23rd. My poor wallet. The credit card is going to be a last resort, but I think it’ll probably be necessary.

And at the suggestion of a friend (who will be in Ireland for Christmas, damn her), we’re probably going to have a Pajama Brunch on my birthday–which means I sleep late and then Roomie makes me breakfast, and maybe some people come over before they go to wherever else they need to. As long as it’s me drinking mimosas in my jammies all day, I don’t care who comes over.

Babies are incredibly oogy. I’m right with ya there, welby.

Hell, I’m STILL oogy!

Wow, bee bee, that’s some good OP, even if you did hijack it! Best wishes for Gram. I’m with ya there about nursing homes. Even more depressing when you know the loved one isn’t leaving. :frowning:

Well Ah’ll Bee!!! Welby!

Saturday night was my neighborhood’s Luminaries Night. Folks do it up big time. All kinds of fun going on including but not limited to pony rides, treats, a fire truck, and a big old wagon pulled by two gigantimus horsies (Percherons , I think). It was quite chilly so lots of folks had their portable firepits going. Very festive.

There’s always something. We are trying to apply for Medicaid for my father to pay for the nursing facility. We’ve been gathering up the necessary documents which include income statements that we’ve had to send for from Social Security and his pension. What really sucks is he is just sixty effin dollars over the limit. So now we think we will have to get an attorney who specializes in this sort of thing to work the numbers for him. And the topper on the cake? We thought we had Medicare coverage for 100 days but it’s only 20. Bleh!!

 And how could I forget??? We watched the shuttle launch Saturday night, too! First night launch in a long time. It was spectacular!

Really, now you’re just making the rest of us (namely me) feel bad. I have only just started shopping and have to strategically plan my shopping around my paycheck schedule so I can actually afford to purchase gifts. Wrapping will most likely happen in Christmas Eve. I’m feeling a bit scroogish this year.

My husband and I have agreed again this year to not give each other anything, even a baby in the middle of the street at 3 am. It’s the thought that counts.

Great MMP babysweet!

Er…good morning all. Did you miss me?

I know it’s been forever and a day since I’ve been in the MMP - it was actually Spats who reminded me this weekend. So here I am.

What a great MMP to come back to, too - I felt like I was really living it! Good job, bigbaby!
Anyway - how’s it going?

Yes, we missed you. And you missed your birthday posts, so you’d best go back and look. I coded for you, young lady!

Great story, sweetie! You’re a hero! I have insomnia sometimes, but it never ends up being that interesting. I hope your grandma’s x-ray is good so she can go back to her apartment.

I went to the Christmas parade on Saturday–not quite Mayberry, but very close. They’re not allowed to throw candy now, so they have to hand it out to the little kids. I don’t know why–maybe they don’t like having stray candy all over the street, or maybe they’re afraid of kids getting run over by parade floats or supercharged dune buggies. I was standing next to the famous Dancing Man. He was hamming it up–singing, dancing, waving at everyone in the parade. I think he scared the Girl Scouts.

Hey, I’m the same age as you, young lady.

And absolutely I’ll go back and look. Sorry I missed it!

You’re even oooooooooolder than me. :stuck_out_tongue:

Good morning everyone. Great OP sweetums! Good luck with grandma’s x-rays; I hope they turn out well.

Welcome back Meeks and welby. We missed both of you.

I am here at work fixing to start the big-assed project boss wants done by COB today. I’m not looking forward to it.

Those of you who are done or nearly done with Christmas shopping and wrapping just…shaddup. Braggarts! I haven’t even STARTED!

Nava, what part of Germany are you in right now? I have relatives in Germany, but they’re mostly in Bavaria. I wish I could go to the Christmas Market in Nuremburg. I lived in Germany for three years. Although I was quite young; I have many fond memories of Germany.

Well, I should work now. Not that I want to or anything…does anyone want to do my project for me? I’ll let you…really…

Just as I thought; no takers.

As They Might Be Giants once said,

(mods - tiny part of the song!)

But enough about that. bigbabysweet, don’t worry about “stealing” the MMP - it’s the unhijackable thread. And good wishes heading towards your grandmother.

Welcome back welby and Mika! And while I’m at it, hi scout!

Now I think I’m off to watch a borrowed copy of Idlewild so’s I can return it today. scooters off

Just look at these white hairs. :sighs:

Hi, Taters!

I used to drive down for the launches when I lived in Daytona - even if I had to call in sick for work. A shuttle launch is something everyone ought to see at least once in their lifetime.

I remember a comedian who made a joke about giving birth that went, “It’s like trying to shove something the size of a watermelon through an opening the size of a quarter.”
 Just to add to the oogy-ness.
Yeah, the idea of birthin’ a baby in the street is scary.
That happened here recently - a women went into labor and had the kid in the car a few blocks from the hospital. The little nipper just couldn’t hold off. Dad delivered it just as the medics rolled up.
