No idea. I just did a search to see if there is any setting I could change to fix this, but didn’t find anything. I did confirm that I do not have ClickLock selected under “Mouse Properties.”
What happens is I select part of a filename, confirm that only one part of is selected (i.e. highlighted), and after a slight delay it will automatically select the whole filename—usually right as I start to type, which deletes the whole filename. I just checked to see if it is still doing this, and it is.
I do see that it only does this when I select the last part or last word in the filename (including the word “copy”). And the end of the filename is what I’m usually modifying.
Similarly with Windows and most common in MS Office are the non-responsive button-selects from the GUI. Annoyingly often the GUI will show the graphic response of a button element being clicked, but with no response, requiring a re-select. It happens more when working/clicking quickly. I think it is also a case of the OS being busy doing something else, so a select occasionally gets ignored. In comparison, I have had several linux laptops that ‘just work’ for the GUI-to-function piece of the process.
I remember this happening all the time in Word. I would carefully select part of a word, and then when I let go of the mouse button, Word would “helpfully” expand my selection to include the entire word. No, you stupid piece of shit, that is not what I want! As I recall, I finally gave up trying to figure out how to turn this nonsense off, and only used the keyboard for selecting.
All of this little kind of crap from Microsoft built up over the years, and finally and pushed me over the edge… into Linux.
Why do my boxer shorts come in a re-sealable zip top bag but my cereal doesn’t? I don’t particularly care if my new undies are “fresh” since they’re new.
