Cool. I just mentioned that because my animals- mostly cats- hate being crated, but dont mind being corralled into a room. Well, they arent thrilled with it mind you.
People who respond to FB et al posts who don’t fucking spell check their replies. Shits me to tears. It’s not rocket surgery to make sure the post is coherent. Fuck you all.
Kills ne every time when I see a headline with errors. I feel your pain.
And Gaudere’s law strikes again…
I’m guilty as charged
.
I think in the UK it might once have been known as Grauniad’s Law.
I braved the 7F / -14C weather to get my morning coffee at Starbucks.
There were two of the regular worker guys lining up at the counter, laughing and joking around.
First one placed his order, all the while chatting up the girl at the register.
Then second guy starts goofing off and being indecisive, wanting to have a team meeting to decide what he would eat for breakfast. Guy #1 suggests stuff that Guy #2 finds unpleasant. Friendly banter ensues.
Finally as he is paying, he has to give his employee number to the girl at the register, and Guy #1 starts spouting random digits to make her mess up.
I like both of them, and I see them all of the time, but it frosts my cookies when I encounter a situation where in my own restaurant days I would have been severely chastized.
Seriously… when I was a kid, if I had done that, a manager would have appeared from nowhere and said “Guys, let the customers through” or “Guys stop goofing off, you are holding up the line.”
I am not sure if we were even allowed to order our own stuff ahead of customers, but two employees lining up at the register would definitely have earned some side eye from the manager.
And not only does the music suck, but it’s also usually full of crashing static like a radio station you can barely tune in.
Forgive me if I already mentioned this, but I’d like to mention portrait phone videos shown on the news. To be honest, I hesitate to criticize the person who made the video, because it’s so much more automatic and natural to hold your phone in portrait position. Not only that, but holding your phone that way also positions the camera lens slightly higher which often provides a less obstructed view. No, what I object to is how the news programs broadcast these videos. You see the actual video in the middle third of your screen, and on either side they have to show the same video, but just barely, in shadows playing across the screen. It’s stupid. Why can’t they just leave it blank?
I also nominate people on Facebook who don’t seem to realize you can put multiple images in a post. So they collect a half dozen separate photos, stitch them together, and post them as a single image. You usually can’t zoom in on that in the app, so if you want to really see it you have to download it and use a gallery app.
Gas pump ‘commercials’. Yes, you have a captured audiance, but give it a break just for once.
They often startle the hell out of me.
And it’s always the expensive name brand gas stations with the pumps that play commercials. The cheap, unbranded gas stations I usually go to don’t have the pumps that play ads, it’s only when I happen to stop at a place like Shell or Chevron that I encounter them. You’d think it would be the cheap places that bombard you with advertising to make up for the lower gas prices, and that would almost seem fair, but no, it’s the other way around.
The cheap stations can’t/won’t invest in the more expensive equipment.
An unimportant thing which infuriates me:
In old cartoons or comedy sketches which have an arctic setting, they’ll depict walruses, eskimos, polar bears, igloos AND PENGUINS existing in the same place. There are no two species on the planet having more distance between their habitats than penguins and polar bears.
Did you know there are penguins in the Galápagos?
Going by the maps on Wikipedia, the two most widely separated species are emperor penguins and walrus. (Polar bears)
I just went on Google Earth and determined that penguins and polar bears live about 100 feet apart.
(At the St. Louis zoo.)
You know what makes me crazy?
People who can’t keep their car at a constant speed. Their average speed is right, but they constantly press and release the accelerator pedal, so the car speed oscillates.
Ture, altho maybe a little off. Oddly the original “penguin” lived in the North- the now extinct Great Auk. Antarctic penguins are not very closely related to the Great Auk, but they were named as such by early seafarers because of their resemblance to the Auk.
Trivia!
So penguins aren’t penguins, they just look like penguins.
An odd way of looking at it, but pedantically correct. I like it.
I can’t stand the plastic tabs that are on the bags of bread. Please, may I just have a twisty please!
