I was having a 12 week featol ultrasound today and as I lay there holding leechboys hand with the ultrasound thing stuck up my girly bits all I could think of was “what am I going to post about this?”
So what has inspired you to start a thread and where were you when the inspiration hit?
Often its the voices in my head. Sometimes they tell me to post. Sometimes to burn things.
Usually random thoughts inspired by other threads, the happenings in my life, or the voices in my head.
Yep, voices in my head.
Overall, most of my threads are inspired by random thoughts, but are sometimes also inspired by an observation or an experience I have on a particular day. Sometimes my threads are spinoffs from other threads. If I want to take a discussion in a different direction than the OP I’d rather start a new thread than hijack an existing thread.
As for threads by group, here is when I usually start them:
GQ- Usually only after exhausting Google and other commonly used resources (howstuffworks.com, snopes.com, Cecil’s columns, other GQ threads, etc.) or if the question would be too difficult to search for a concrete answer, do I start a thread here.
GD- I never go here, therefore I never start any threads here.
CS- The threads I start here are usually based on random thoughts about music, movies or sometimes video games in general. My threads here are never specific to one song, artist, movie, actor/actress, etc.
IMHO- This is my most common area for starting threads. Again,
random thoughts inspire me to post here, especially if it is something in which I am interested to know if other people’s experiences with a particular situation they have encountered, or if their opinions about something, are similar to or perhaps different from mine.
MPSIMS- Pretty much the same explanation as the above.
BBQ Pit- I don’t start too many Pit threads. There are lots of little things I could complain about but I usually refrain from posting about them since they’re usually petty issues anyway. Only when an issue becomes so annoying or frustrating that I can no longer keep it to myself do I vent here.
Must admit that i’m more of a reply poster than a thread-starter. I rely on you clever people to actually have the original ideas.

I am my own inspiration. I realized early on that so many of you are living vicariously thru me. Therefore, I have an obligation to keep the Teeming Millions abreast of every profound or mundane thought that occurs to me. It’s a weighty responsibility, but I take it on gladly, because you deserve no less.
OK, you’re right. I’m a pathetic, bored old woman looking for any glimmer of attention. So I eavesdrop on everyone around me, stealing the least dull bits and fashioning them into threads.
Or not. You really don’t know, do you? I’m mysterious that way.
Sure are a lotta votes for “voices in my head” . . .
GD is a scary place. Don’t like to post there, usually. Don’t never like to start thread there, nosir.
But yeah, something will happen in real life, and I’ll think, “Hm, should I post about this? Will people be interested? Can I craft my thread in such a way as to elicit muchos responses? Will I become popular? Will all the hot SDMB women fawn over me?”
I sleep on it. If something is still bugging me by morning, i post it.
