Let’s say that Trump wins on Election Day. If that’s so, then there are a lot of dire things that could happen before he even takes the oath of office on Inauguration Day.
There would be a massive stock-market panic. If the election results are solidly and clearly in Trump’s favor throughout Election Night, like Brexit on Brexit night, then this collapse might happen even before the official results are in - on Election Night itself. Many investors might pull out of the US, or call off deals/plans etc. By the time Trump takes office, the economy would already be in a significant downturn due to the fear and uncertainty.
Obama’s last few days in office would suddenly take on immense importance. (If Hillary won, then Obama wouldn’t have to do too much of anything particular, since Hillary is basically Obama 2.0.) The Democrats, and Obama, would scramble to get everything done that they could possibly get done before the Donald gets into the Oval Office. Obama might issue a flurry of executive orders.
The Congressional race then takes on importance too. It’s quite possible that the Republicans will lose the Senate. So the Senate Republicans might try to obstruct as much of Obama as they can before Obama leaves. In either way it would be a Congressional conundrum though - it would be blue President, red Senate, and then a red President, blue Senate.
Illegal immigrants would probably go into hiding, or maybe there might be an increase in undocumented immigration across the border before Trump takes office.
I view Trump as being akin to a precipitating agent in chemical solutions, whereby adding Trump to the Oval Office causes a lot of people to precipitate out of the American solution, northwards into Canada.
Trump and those in the military/intelligence community who believe the US needs “a firm hand” and that we can’t afford this Democracy nonsense in a wartime world, will want the precipitating event that makes martial law a Painful Necessity to happen during Obama’s watch.
So the suitcase nuke that will take out Salt Lake City (or perhaps Omaha–possibly both) will happen before the Inauguration–but just before, so that dealing with the aftermath (i.e., instituting martial law due to the Massive Threat of Terrorism In Every Major US City) will be Trump’s prerogative, not Obama’s.
I think your imagination about what right-wingers want to do to the country, is fanciful beyond even what the right-wingers themselves have going on in their heads. You’re writing better scripts or secret plots than what they could cook up.
Yeah, it’s not as if Trump has repeatedly expressed admiration for dictators and their dictatorial ways (murdering uncles and journalists and opponents, etc.).
