Things That You Would Really Like To Know That Are None Of Your Mollyfocking Business?

Oh man! I had a professor in undergrad who mentioned once a certain figure of speech that is used in Very Small Country (VSC). It turns out the Peace Corps had sent him there a couple of decades ago. Fast forward to grad school, and one of my cohort is from the same VSC. I tell her about my prof, and she mentions that she knew a guy with that last name (though spelled differently), who would be of just the right age to be this guy’s son… It turns out this kind of thing is common with Peace Corps people there.

The prof’s surname is of English heritage, and the surnames in VSC are definitely not.

I used to live next door to an older guy who frequently went into his apartment with a teenage boy in tow. It was a different kid each time and it didn’t take me long to figure that he didn’t have that many nephews.

The thing I wondered about was that I never saw any of the kids leave (yeah, it didn’t help that I was reading a book about John Wayne Gacy at the time.)

This guy didn’t release any names but he seems legit. TL; DR this guy thinks it was an autistic hacker and his brother. Reddit - The heart of the internet

Maybe she’s my Running Woman, all tired out after running from New York to Maryland.

There’s an Angry Walking Woman in my sister’s town. Blonde, slender, maybe late 20’s, nice enough looking except she ALWAYS has a scowl on her face and her hands are clenched into fists and the way she swings her arms it pretty much looks like she punching the air out of her way.
She walks every day, my sister says, miles and miles up one road, back down, and then on to other roads. Must easily be 20 miles a day.

We have one, too- she walks all over the northwest part of town in frilly prom dresses and eccentric fashions. She’s called the Umbrella Lady, and someone has even made a facebook page for her, where people discuss sightings and opinions of her.

Exactly. I don’t know how this meme persisted once Harry reached his 20s and started looking like a ginger Prince Charles.

See, for example, these photos.

I have to wonder if all the Angry Walking Women people are mentioning actually KNOW that they make an angry face all the time? People sometimes tell me I look angry when I’m actually just deep in thought. I don’t know what my face is doing when I’m concentrating on something–maybe these women don’t either?

My ex-wife used to point out that some people (including my mom, whom she adored) can seem to have a “bitch face” (her term) as their default expression when their actual mood at the time is neutral. I’ve observed this more and more in people since then. For now, that’d be my guess about the Angry Walking Women in this thread.

RE: Angry Walking/Running Women faces - there’s some research that shows that viewers are significantly less likely to be able to identify a neutral expression on a female face than on a male face. People looking at pictures of males making angry/sad/negative, neutral, or happy/joyful/positive expressions, can generally place those expressions into those three categories. Pictures of females making the same expressions tend to get divided into two categories only - positive and negative.

So it’s likely that a neutral facial expression on a female will be put into the “negative” category by a viewer.

(sorry, I’m at home and don’t have access to my lesson plans and files in my office, so I can’t provide the specific cite. I’ll see if I can locate it)

I think I’ve got you all beat for morbidness. About the story of the survivors of the Andes plane crash–you know the one about the rugby players who had to resort to cannibalism to survive. Well, I’ve read the book and seen documentaries, etc., so I feel like I’m familiar with the people involved a bit. And I want to know…who did they eat first? Why? How did they choose who came next? Etc. I know, for instance, that they didn’t eat Nando Parrado’s mother or sister, out of respect for him, but that he gave them permission to if he didn’t return from his escape expedition. But that’s about as detailed as they get about that kind of stuff. Like I said, morbid, I know.

I also would like to know if my parents were virgins on their wedding night. I mean, they dated for five years through high school and college, so you’d think they’d have gotten around to it. But things were different in that time and place, and I’ve always thought of my Mom as a bit of a prude, so who knows. I’ll never know…even if they didn’t wait, my Mom would lie to me rather than admit the truth if for some odd reason the topic came up. She prides herself on being very “proper.”

I’d love to know what happened to that jerk I dated before I met my husband. He seems to take some trouble to cover his tracks, though…my googlefu is weak when looking for him. Not on Facebook, etc. I suspect he doesn’t want to be tracked down by all the women he jerked around over the years. He might even have a baby mama or two he’s hiding from, who knows? I could probably find out more if I was willing to pay for it (he does turn up on those searching-for-people sites), but I’m not going to go that far. But I am curious. I hope he’s miserable–does that make me a bad person? He was very, very awful to me.

Two different guys I know seemed to be obsessed with talking about sex and at a very juvenile level, well into adulthood. Not normal guy talk but going on to the point of making even other guys uncomfortable. I always wondered if they were molested or had some sort of sexual trauma early in life that compelled them to talk about sex so much.

Would love to know how much my co-workers earn and who in the plant is related and how.

I have a female co-worker on whom I have glimpsed a sliver of what appeared to be an extensive tramp stamp tattoo. I would love to see the whole thing.

I used to wonder about the very same thing, though I do think Read made mention that they started with the pilots and crew. Likely they avoided relatives of survivors as well, leaving them to choose the most plump among who was left. At least, that was my conclusion.

But I might have you beat for morbidness - I was wondering this in the fourth grade!

I would like to know that, too. Also, why is he so sad?

I think I speak for a lot of us when I say, “WHAAAAAA?!?”

Well I’m burning to know what happened to jsgoddess’ friends now too. Really burning!

I see(or hear - I live close to a busy street) emergency vehicles responding to what I assume are accidents and fires and stuff, but I want to know more. What happened, and to whom? I’d love to see a website or something, say www.nosybitch.com or something that would tell me what the police, fire and EMT’s were doing out there. I’m not curious enough to get a scanner (assuming that would tell me anything) but I’d sure love to know what the 5 fire trucks, two tow trucks, 4 police cars and two ambulances were doing on the highway on Sunday afternoon. It must have been a big deal to have all that equipment and personnel, and I’d like to know what the heck it was.

I’d also like to know more about my oldest stepdaughter’s latest divorce. Apparently she was caught doing something naughty with someone she shouldn’t have, and apparently the story is pretty juicy. She’s a train wreck anyway, and I’ll bet this is a real doozy.

None my damned bidness though.

I think, if your family member has confessed to murder, that falls within the public’s business. If she won’t give you more details, perhaps the DA should have a crack at it?

That’s not something people just casually lie about. There is no statute of limitations for murder.

A friend of mine has a Russian (like she is there, he is in the US) fiancee. I think they’ve met IRL, but …was she “mail-order”?

I’m going to have to learn to give more detail! You sort of have to understand this family member. It IS something she would have lied about. She’s always needed a lot of attention, and not been afraid to make things up. There had been some rapes going on at that campus at the time, so, well, that’s the one I wonder about. It’s feasible. She also has a bad habit of watching the news and later deciding that some of those things happened to her. You press her for details, and she gets vague, doesn’t really have any facts. You ask her about it later and what “facts” you might have gotten have changed. As far as actually putting a baby in a dumpster, I don’t believe her. I saw pictures of her from that spring break, and she didn’t look **at all **pregnant. The way her body is built, it would have shown.

My family home as a child was 10 doors away from this child’s :-

Basically, a 13 year old boy walked out his front door to return to school after lunch break, onto a road where there would have been maybe a thousand other school kids also returning from lunch, and so far as anyone knows vanished into thin air. The only trace of him that was ever found was that his school bag was found in a laneway about a quarter mile from his house a week after his disappearance, specifically in a laneway that had been actively searched several times by professional, police searchers prior to the discovery, who had not found the school bag. The school bag’s contents were intact, with the exception of his religious knowledge books, which were missing.

Having read that, you now know as much as the general public do about the kid’s disappearance. I have one extra piece of information :- the missing religious knowledge books were found about 6 months after his disappearance, in a disused laneway that was enclosed by 8 foot walls and locked gates. The books had been carefully placed under a bush halfway down the laneway, meaning that someone had scaled the 8 foot barriers to place them there deliberately, and not for example just thrown them over the wall. (The books’ discovery was deliberately not released to the general public :- I know about it because a girl I knew worked in offices that adjoined the laneway).

I’m reasonably certain that the information I’ve given here is all that the police know. I spent many weekends at the time as part of search parties walking the Wicklow Mountains looking for some trace of Philip :- I’ve always wondered what happened him. Was he abducted ? If he was, how did it happen with all those other school kids around, none of whom ever came forward to report anything amiss ? Did he go somewhere voluntarily ? If so where ? And in particular, what the hell was going on with the RK books ? I could, I suppose, imagine reasonably plausible scenarios for his disappearance , but the disappearance and reappearance of those books have always just been totally inexplicable to me.

So the incident is not really any of my business, and is obviously a matter of vastly more concern and significance to his family, but it’s something I’d really like explained.
