Things to do in Vegas when you're dead - a holiday MMP

Driving by. Waving.

:frowning: SNIFF :frowning: I broke my favorite coffee mug. :frowning: SNIFF :frowning: I’m so sad.

I was headed out the back door on my way out to the swing by the pool and I dropped it on the rug by the back door and it got all broked. See, it’s nice out and sittin’ in the swing sippin’ a cup of coffee and just chillin’ is a favorite thing of mine to do. SNIFF Poor mug!

Have I mentioned that starting tomorrow until Sunday afternoon I will be JoeDawg’s nanny? I’m sure he’s dreading the strict regimine of sofa time, treats and mandatory love the dawg sessions I will inflict upon him but, as y’all know, I believe in keeping him on a strict regimine for his own good. One just cannot be permissive and run the risk of spoiling him.

Ol’ y’all know who wants to meet up for lunch. Bein’ as we’re all class, we shall meet at that paragon of fine dining known as Three Squares Diner. Nuttin’ but the finer things in life for us!

Ok, off to do… ummm… sump’n. Not sure what but it’ll be important.

Morning all. I’m caffeinating, and getting ready for work. I need to go to the Post Office in a bit, and send everything out. Anybody else having a problem with Firefox lately?

:waves at MBG:

I’d be happy to drive Miss Haze.

Good luck on the job search for Mr. Rebo.

Dotty, we just figured HRH had forbidden you to post. Good luck on your job search.

Sorry about the Mug, swampy.

Isn’t that potentially fatal? Better hurry to get a replacement!

Thanks, everyone. I know it’s going to be better this time around.

Of course, if for no other reason than the tax break.

Up, making tea. Tired. Woke up a while ago, but couldn’t drag myself out of bed.

Dotty, I’ve noticed a lack of you and HRH for some time. I was just waiting patiently for you to return to us.
Oooh, breaking your favourite mug is no good. And it’s so hard to find Another Perfect Mug.

Okay, today is cleaning and tidying day. The midwife is coming at five, and I want it to look less like we’re total slobs by the time she gets here. Baking bread all day usually wrecks the place. It’s all wrecked. Tomorrow I’ll do some more cooking (stovetop, since the blasted oven is dead) and freezing, and Friday cleaning up before we run off to Niagara with the inlaws again.
I need caffeine.

Oh, you fox you. Can’t resist those subtle head bobs.

Special1, dogbutler, too bad you guys don’t live closer. Although my other requirements for my boyfriend include being able to play Simon and Garfunkel songs on the guitar. With his toes. While cooking me dinner. Hey, a girl’s gotta have standards.

Good luck for Dotti!

Sorry 'bout the mug, swampy. :: crosses self, says prayer ::

Awwwww, swampy! No sense crying over spilt mug. (Okay, I’m sorry…lame)

Happy Mump Day to everybody and assorted hugs all around.

Congrats to the seans! Second time around IS better. Mr. Anachi and I are in our 17th year.

haze, that kitteh looks like the sweetest lil thang!

Is everyone finished with their holiday shopping? :dubious: (Certain members of our middle east contingent are exempted.) I still have a few things to get.

Gorgeous weather here until the weekend when we are supposed to get some of the airs what li-li and mork let slip out their backdoor.

Off to do some work.

Toodles

Tupug

Sadly, our marriage would be illegal in this country.

When I got off work yesterday, I took my list of possible sources to the stacks and left the library with thirteen books about Puerto Rico. Then I went to the public library and got two fantasy/science fiction books for fun.

Yep, the Death March to the Comps/Thesis has begun. And if Complicated Roommate gives me that “You have no idea” look one more time, I’m going to smack his face back to Alberta. Dude, your thesis was in physics. Mine is in English. Different animals.

holds a moment of silence for swampy’s mug I hate it when a great mug dies.

Congratulations to the Seans!

Good luck with the job search for Mr. Rebo.

Hang in there, Pie. We’re all here for you.

Sorry about the mug, Swampy. :frowning: Breaking a favorite mug or bowl is just heartbreaking. I’m still mad at Young Tiger for breaking one of my gorgeous blue flowered bowls that I got at the Asian supermarket years ago. Not only because it leaves me with the hideously unlucky number of four left (the word for “death” is so close to the word for “four” in Japanese that all dishes there come in sets of five, and if they break one, they throw the rest out!) but because I can’t get more; they were a one-time purchase. :frowning:

I know there’s other yays/boos/whatevers, but the ol’ brain is somewhat fried this morning so you know who you are and please take the appropriate sentiment as meant.

I was a good girl and worked yesterday evening and then got up this morning and finished the stuff that needed to be done before I got on the Dope. <gasp> Behaving myself? What on earth happened to me?

Speaking of which, I need to get back to it. :frowning: I really hate behaving myself. I was all set to have a couple of relaxing days, when they upped the due date on a huge deposition. So now I have 2-1/2 days to do it instead of 7. Which really sucks. :frowning:

Behaving yourself? Now why should you be so different from the rest of us?

Outcast!

You’d let a little thing like that stop us? Does that mean you don’t love me? :: sniffle ::

Good luck on the thesis! My major was English, too. After I finished my thesis I never wanted to read another book again.

Yay! I can get on here at work and it’s fine! I feel like I have a Real Job!

I have been answering the phone this morning. A bit scary, but I’m doing fine, I’m told. Later I will be taken around to see some of the units so that I have some idea what I’m talking about when I’m booking people.

And when it’s slow, we can get online. Like right now. knocking wood furiously I guess I should stay out of the Pit at work, though.

Well, this could get interesting…!
::Pulls up a lawnchair::

:slowly puts hand up:

puggy I am finished my Christmas shopping and have all my Christmas cards written out and those that needed mailing were mailed last Saturday.

Sorry. :stuck_out_tongue:

The reason being is that I leave next Thursday to go home for Chirstmas so I had to be ridiculously organised this year as this weekend I have another Christmas party to go to which is out of town so the whole weekend is shot. I will not be drinking tequila this weekend as I need to get back by Sunday lunch time to back cookies as the gifts I am giving all the admins etc that work for me.

Oh still no heat by the way. I had my little portable heater going all night in my bedroom. Libby the cone head at about 1AM came into the room and got under the covers lay on the edge of the bed where the heater was and scooched me over so she could be nice and warm. Sneeky cat.

Lunch (N.O.L.). Barley risotto with herbed chicken. Yuummy.

Puggy - I didn’t let it slip out my back door. I grabbed it by the short and curlies and chucked it out. I plan on filing for a restraining order next week.

Hank - Excellent! But what’s your take on head bobs accompanied by the white man’s overbite?

Swampy - You know, it is said that whenever God smashes a mug, he creates a beer stein. I’m sure I heard that somewhere.

Whew! I’m finally caught up. It’s been a busy couple days, and you guys don’t take a break when my work gets busy!

And I’ve got a GIANT zit right on the edge of my lip so it looks like a huge cold sore. It’s really not. I popped it this morning so I know it’s a zit. It probably wouldn’t look anywhere near as bad if I’d left it alone and hadn’t popped it, but what fun would that have been? It was so satisfying when the little grain that caused it shot out. Ah, zits.

Did anyone else read this list of what LiLi did yesterday and think “What does pregnancy have to do with it?? I’d be exhausted if I made 4 kinds of bread without being pregnant!” LiLi, I think you may need to cut back on the baking just a little bit. I mean it all sounds fantastic, but yeah, that’s going to make you tired!

I’m a little late to the party, but Tea is adorable and that dress is beautiful. I love baby clothes. Babies themselves are only ok and only if I can hand them back to their mamas after 5 minutes, but I just love baby stuff.

FCM, did FCD consider the Honda S2000? It’s sporty and reminds me of the Z4 (or more closely the Z3, which I like better) and it gets better gas mileage than a lot of sports cars. Not as good as the diesel Jetta but not terrible either. And it’s a Honda so hopefully it’d be more reliable.

It was beautiful out this morning. Everything got covered with hoarfrost over night. No, that’s not a picture from here, but I didn’t have a chance to upload any so that’s a good sample picture. It was all sparkley and pretty. The sun’s out now so it’s all gone though.

Back to work. :frowning:

In that case…

CONGRATULATIONS!!! WOOHOO!!!

Awww… thanks for all the mug sympathy. Warms my little heart cockles it does! Not to worry though, cause second favorite mug just moved up to favorite mug designation. So, rejoice for second favorite mug’s rise in status! HUZZAH! SECOND FAVORITE, NOW FAVORITE, MUG! HUZZAH!

Or, maybe I oughta lay off’n the caffiene a bit?

I met ol’ y’all know who for lunch at the fine dining establishment I mentioned earlier. He told me that since we ate a big lunch (and we did!) that he’d be ok with bbq sammiches tonight, which is jake with me. Maybe bbq sammiches and fries. He had hamburger steak, smashed N.O.T., fried okra and butter beans for lunch. I had chicken strips, butter beans and mac & cheese. Plus cornbread. And iced tea. So, I’m full.

Maybe I need a nap.

Yes, I’m behaving myself, Haze. Kinda sorta. I’m working a bit between readings of the Dope. Does that still mean I’m an outcast? <sniffle>

Cats are excellent for helping one stay warm when there’s no heat, mmms. Emily was apparently traumatized as a kitten and so is frightened to death of being shut in anything, including crawling under covers, but there’s nothing stopping her from curling up so tight against me it’s as if I have a 6.5-lb heating pad right there. It’s quite lovely. She’s particularly fond of the down comforter, for some strange reason, although the electric blanket runs a close second.

Yay for being able to surf the Dope at work, snowbunny And I’m sure you’re doing fine on the phone; you’ve got a surprisingly courteous phone manner. (Surprisingly because you’re my daughter, not because there’s anything wrong with you! pbbbtht! )

Speaking of work, I long ago accepted the fact that in my line of work, the people who make the recordings and take the accompanying notes often are not good spellers. I never, EVER trust the reporter’s spelling; I verify it myself any way I can (which means I really have become an excellent googler). One of the reporters at the firm I do most of my work for is my ex-boss’s boyfriend – she was the lovely attorney I worked for for several years who I’m still friends with; her boyfriend helped get me on with the firm that went under last year, and so I repaid him by helping get him on with this firm when the other firm went out of business. He does a truly excellent job at making recordings, which is 99% of the battle – if I can hear it, I can make sense out of it. But spelling is NOT his forte. As an example? He just made an interesting spelling error – he put in his notes the two branches of Islam, Sunni and “Shitte.” Oops! :dubious:

Okay, back to work now that I’ve had my little laugh. Is it Firday yet?

It’s really not an ego thing - he just likes sporty cars. It might have something to do with growing up around Detroit… And if I was adamant, he’d settle on what I would consider to be a practical car. We each have what I consider to be valid reasons - he likes performance vehicles, and we can afford the car and the additional cost of gas without sacrificing our lifestyle. I think sports cars are silly - especially 2-seaters - and their very existence doesn’t make sense to me, when there are lots of comfortable, fuel efficient sedans out there. It’s not really a power struggle, and we’re trying to avoid that. Bottom line is he can’t convince me that he should have that car, and I can’t convince him that he shouldn’t. And frankly, if something as silly as a car gives him pleasure, especially since he spends so much time in it, I can just shift the budget a little to cover the extra gas costs. It’s not worth fighting about.

But I still think it’s a stupid reason to buy a car… :stuck_out_tongue:

Back from jurying and grocery shopping. I forgot my list, and came home to discover I’d forgotten a few things on the list and picked up waaaaaay more than I’d intended to buy. But we’re stocked up, so if we get snowed in, we can eat.

I’ve got the house open - it’s nearly 70 out there today! How weird is that?!? And by this weekend, the night temps will be over 40 degrees colder. Oh well - at least for today, we don’t have to burn that very, very expensive heating oil to keep warm.

Plans for the rest of the day? Dunno. I bought a chicken, thinking I might pop it into the rotisserie for supper. Other than that, no plans. Maybe I should vacuum??
