Things to do in Vegas when you're dead - a holiday MMP

As if I wasn’t having enough fun already, I’m here at the shop and I was just getting ready to finish up some cookies. I need to put a company logo on 3 dozen chocolate chip cookies. Then I realized as I opened my tool kit that I had loaned some of my tools to my best friend a couple of weeks ago. Of course, I don’t have duplicates and need just exactly what she has. So now I’m sitting here waiting for her to get dressed and bring the stuff over. Fortunately she doesn’t live too far away.

I just want this day to be over.

Well, at least she can make it there soon.

I’m sleepy. Off to beddie-bye.

GT

Yep. Cookies done now and I’m going to bed. I hope that this fit of rage and anger is gone when I wake up tomorrow.

:: sends dreams of kittens and chocolate to Pie ::

Spaz, you sound like a fun person to live with. Will you marry me?

Good morning everybody!

Cutie, I know you’re asleep, but just wanted to send some good vibes your way after a hard day. You’ll feel them in your dreams. I hope. {{{CutiePie}}}

**Haze **-- one of us is wrong about Spaz’s gender… Just saying. Or maybe I’m wrong about somebody’s way of swinging, after all? I’d make suggestions about what to do if your proposal falls through, but alas polygamy is illegal on both our sides of the pond :frowning:

And I’m not getting started about the pictures. Nah-uh. Nothing at all…!!

**Rigs **-- seconding Doggio’s medical diagnosis

Dotty’s not the only one MIA. **Nava **too – I think someone if killing off the Euro-Dopers! Boo, you OK?:eek: ::looks around furtively for killers lurking in the bushes::

Don’t worry, Special1, there’s nothing untoward lurking in my bushes!

(((((CutiePie))))) - here’s hoping today manages to give you a smile.

Congratulations to Sean and Nearly-Mrs Factotum! - you kept that one quiet, were you afraid we’d throw a party for you?

Kai - happy anniversary to you and Skiffman, hope you have a good day.

Rigs - please keep your germs over that side of the pond, I just got over a nasty cough/cold thing before and during my hols, I really don’t have time for another one.

My life seems to be awash with weddings at the moment. Last Friday I was at a wedding down in Somerset, at Wookey Hole caves. Yes, they did decide to get married in a cave. Very atmospheric but kinda strange, the guys were wearing velvet and leather, the bride was all pink princess.

January brings another hen weekend (probably in Budapest) and a wedding in Gretna Green. March has a hen weekend for a May wedding, and then there’s another wedding coming up in June.

I’ve got procession and platform duty for the degree ceremony this afternoon, that’ll be fun as it’s easier to herd cats than get a bunch of academics to line up properly. Envy me.

Up and not driving to work - it’s jury duty day again! The canines are at their respective kibble bowls and I’m sitting by the glow of the monitor - heck of a way to start the day.

And it’s looking like we just may end up buying the Crossfire. There are so many things to consider.

Jetta - 137K+ miles, Crossfire - 22K miles
Jetta - needs at least $1400 more in repairs, Crossfire - ?? we’d have our mechanic check it out
Jetta - has several other issues we’ve been ignoring because of cost, Crossfire - ??
Jetta - **FCD ** tolerates it, Crossfire - **FCD ** lusts over it
Jetta - less than a year of payments left, Crossfire - probably financed for 4 years, but payment would be less
Jetta - gets close to 50MPG - diesel, Crossfire - gets around 25MPG - gasoline (I just had a thought - does it need premium?? Must ask)

Personally, I think 2-seat cars are stupid and impractical. I also hate sitting that low to the ground, and it’s doubtful I’d ride in this one much. I hate that its fuel economy is so bad. But the main reason we’d do it if we do it is that **FCD ** just loves roadsters and he wants one. I consider vehicles to be a necessary evil, he looks at them as a form of fun or something. A guy thing, I guess.

I’m trying not to be a party pooper about this. Honestly, if it was up to me and I really felt like the Jetta needed to go, I’d be looking at a nice, fuel-efficient sedan. But that ain’t gonna happen.

Have I ever said how much I hate cars? Because I do. I truly do. But living in the boonies as we do (the only thing within reasonable walking distance is the post office, and it’s half a mile away. Nearest grocery/pharmacy/little shopping strip is 6-7 miles away…) We shall see where this goes.

Other than that, I’m caffeinating until 7:30 when I’ll shower, dress, and get ready to be all judicial, or something. Afterwards, I need to find a $10-$12 gift for the goofy family gift exchange we’ll be doing in Florida. I considered $10 of Ramen soup packages, but that’d fill half the van!!! So I’ll figure out something else.

Happy Wednesday, all!

Howdy all - drive-by! I must say I feel kinda miffed it took you until Wednesday to notice I was missing!!!

Sorry, but I have been SUPER busy at work, and trying to fit lots of quality hubby and HRH time at home. I have some cute pics of Noor at home and will try to upload them tonight for you. Back to work for now.

P.S. expecting a job offer in the next couple of days, so fingers crossed they make a good offer!

I was wondering if you’d wind up trading the Jetta in. It would make me cry to give up that kind of gas mileage, though. I hate cars too. Well, the necessity of them, anyway. I’m grateful I live somewhere that I can walk to lots of errands, but there are lots of things I do regularly that require a car because public transportation here isn’t quite to the level of New York, for some reason, and I drive out of town often enough these days that renting a car would be more expensive. But yeah, used Nissan Sentra here. Nice enough, but practical and quite decent gas mileage.

Didn’t make it out of the house to mail my packages last night, so I’m going this morning instead. (Post office on the way to the bus stop opens at 7:30; mailing stuff last night would have required driving and I really didn’t feel like it).

Have a lovely Wednesday everyone!!!

GT

Ok. I’m awake. Thanks for the kind thoughts all around. I am feeling a little better except for an extreme desire to ‘toss my cookies.’ This is not a good thing because I need to be dressed and at work no later than 25 minutes from now. And there’s no one to fill in for me today.
P.S. Why is there no pukey smiley anyways?

gt - the thing about the Jetta (and the kid’s New Beetle) - VW quality seems to have plummeted since we bougth our first Jetta in '86. Both of these vehicles had airbag lights that wouldn’t go out because of a sensor issue - $$ repairs. Both owners manuals say take the car to the dealer to replace the headlights - & $$. The hatch on the Beetle is a pain to keep latched, and the headliner has fallen in. The dome light in the Jetta no longer comes on when the driver’s door is open, and we found out it’d be $400-ish to repair that. The button on the Beetle’s parking break handle has broken off. The cylinder thingies that open the Jetta’s trunk are about dead. Just lots of things one wouldn’t expect to be failing in relatively new cars.

Especially when I look at my Aerostar, which we’ll take to Florida for the holidays - apart from being 11 years old and well-used and slightly cracked from where I hit a deer, it’s almost at 200K miles, it’s still reliable, and all the major systems seem to work. For all the abuse its taken over the years, you’d expect it to be lots sadder than it is.

So much for Farfugnugen, or however it’s spelled…

At least **FCD ** isn’t looking for one of the military Hummers that get 8MPG downhill with a tailwind.

Have I mentioned that I hate cars??

Yes, my brother and SIL had a Jetta for a while. They ran into the same issues. They’ve stuck with Hondas since then - much more reasonable repairs. They had windshield wipers fail while they were visiting me once and were told they needed to get replacements from a dealer. They were rather    and :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Off to finish getting ready for work and the Post Office.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY KAI AND SKIFFMAN!!!

Mornin’ Y’all! Up, breakfasted and caffienated. Actually been up a while. Since last night was spend the night night, I got up early and even fixed breakfast. I’m such a good boyfriend!

Mooooom I can understand wanting to trade the Jetta in due to the problems it’s causing, but I agree on the unpracticalness (it is too a word!) of the Crossfire. Given FCD’s history of back/neck problems, a vehicle like that would also not be practical from a medical viewpoint. Just tell him to go buy a 'Stang. Sporty, yet practical. For real, those roadsters can be muy uncomfortable and a kinda rough ride. Much as it may pain him to do so, he needs to consider that.

Well, aren’t I just all preachy this mornin’!

Ok, off to do some stuff.

Later Y’all!

**swampy ** - we’d looked at Mustangs a few years back, he drove one (it was a rental for 3 or 4 days) and he hated it. So those weren’t even considered. The short list was BMW Z4 ( ), Pontiac Solstice, Saturn Sky, and the Crossfire. When he found out the Crossfire was at its heart a Mercedes, that was the turning point.

Honestly, if it was my choice, we’d be shopping for an Accord or something similar. On the other hand, it’s not like the Crossfire would put us in the poorhouse. I look at it as a silly toy, and **FCD ** looks at it as a cool car. We’ll never find a satisfactory compromise on this issue. Just can’t happen. Someone has to give in.

It’ll probably be me. Because I caved on both 'Vettes, the Porsche, the Midget, and the motorcycles. GAH!

Another drive-by post…

Mornin’, y’all.

If I weren’t a bit naive, I just might think you were implying something there…
But I am, so I’m not thinking anything of the sort  :halo:

Cutie, not a fun way to start another day :frowning: I hope it gets better.

**FCM **-- Not all guys need a roadster for their ego… I’m perfectly happy with my (leased from work) bare-bones Ford Focus. It gets me places. Just sayin’. Maybe you should put your foot down this time (and not on the accelerator!)

Mornin’, Mumpers!

Not much going on here, just work, work, work - as usual. I found out I made a pretty big boo-boo a couple of months ago, back at the start of the project. Turns out we wouldn’t have been able to hold to the specs anyway, but we designed around the wrong size clearance. I was supposed to design to 12 inches clearance per side, and I made it 12 inches overall, only 6 inches per side. :smack: I feel stupid.

I miss my husband, too. It sucks to go home and him not be there. He was in the area last night, and got to come home for a minute just as I was going to bed. He came in and kissed me goodnight, then grabbed a pork chop I had cooked for dinner, and headed back out the door. Poor thing. Poor me. :frowning: It won’t be long, though. He sent off for his driving record, which is something he has to send out with his resume. He’ll find something soon, I hope.

Hugs and kisses all around - I can’t seem to keep up with you guys! I read it, and it flies outta my head!

Happy Hump Day!

Is it Firday yet?

Oh, I know Spaz is of the gentler sex. I’m always up for new adventures, you know.

I’m scared of cars. I hate driving and I don’t know the first thing about buying them. Reason #584 why I need a boyfriend - I need a chauffeur.

sounds … interesting

I love driving. I don’t really know about buying cars (I’ve been driving leased cars for - what, 10 years now?) but I do love driving!
But reason #584 sounds like it’s too low on the list to tilt things my way? :frowning: Oh well…

Rebo – Hope Mr. Rebo finds a better job soon! And I’m sure you’ll be OK with that mistake, especially if everything else has changed 5 times, too… Although I know you do feel bad for making it in the first place. It’s a sign of work ethic.

HI!! I mean-- uh … how you doin’? ::subtle head bob::

Right, so… awake, caffeinated, eating yogurt for breakfast. We still seem to be absurdly busy – it usually calms down about midweek but there’s been little relief, so every time I consider responding here I get snagged by the phone or other things I need to take care of. sigh

It’s sunny outside, too! Chilly, but sunny. We need some sun.

Hate to make this another quasi-drive-by but duty is calling. And calling. And calling…
