Things to do in Vegas when you're dead - a holiday MMP

haze, I luuurved your emossay! I used to have conversations like that back when I participated in alternate reality therapy. See, though, I’m more inclined to think there are others we share life with that help us/we help perfect our souls…sort of a mystical group therapy, so to speak. That’s why we feel recognition for them. They may or may not be our “ideal” mate. They are just meant to be in our lives.

I do believe the MMP is in serious need of a z-pak! MEDIC!!! Well, at least a good going over to get rid of all the germs. The “cooties” can stay.

I dunno, rosie, isn’t all that weather headed your way today?

mork, sygzy is a real word???

HRH, is a doll!! Were you not worried about her popping the big pink balloon? That was a balloon, wasn’t it?

rebo, I keep hearing “puttin on the Ritz.”

Speaking of earworms, I swear the last two mornings in a row I’ve woken up hearing Barbara Streisand singing Second Hand Rose and I can’t for the life of me figure out why. Weird.

Guess I should go do some work.

Toodles

Tupug

An obscure one, unless you’re into astronomy, but yes. It’s a word. Pronounced “SIZZ-ih-gee.” I only know of it because it was one of the names Nolan Bushnell was bouncing off execs when he was trying to come up with a name for his new company back in '72. It wasn’t used only because Nolan found out that Syzygy was already taken when he went to incorporate the company, so he chose the runner up, Atari, instead, because he was a big fan of the game Go.

</geeky history lesson>

yeah, but I’m hoping it turns out not to be as awful as they’re saying. Besides I spoke to thte chapter president last night - we’re gonna play it by ear (neat trick for an acappella group)

You cite Merriam-Webster! Blasphemer!! Those who do not accept the OED as the One True Word will burn in fiery pits full of extraneous apostrophes and dangling participles. BURN.

:: ahem :: Sorry. I’m bored.

Better? Oh, and this.

[sub]Yes, the irony is thick, but not in the same way Alanis Morissette is.[/sub]

My sinuses are all stopped up. ICK! Just wanted to tell y’all this fascinating fact.

Oh and I went and got JoeDawg this mornin’. He has embarked (heh!) upon his strict regimen of sofa time and treats. I know, I know. Y’all think I should cut him some slack but I can’t. He must maintain a strict regimen in order not to get spoiled. We just can’t have spoilt chee-hoo-ah-hoo-ah now can we?

Quick drive-by post here. I got up at 8:30, got stuff put together for supper (make ahead mashed potatoes, meatloaf), reorganized the fridge some. (Anyone want Christmas cookies??? Check your CD drive. ) Showered, did my make up. Now I have to go and finish my hair and run off to work. At least all I will have to do tonight when I get home from work and Christmas shopping is toss the stuff in the oven and heat up a veggie.

{{{{{MMP}}}}}} Hugs and good wishes to everyone here. It seems like we have are all sick or down. :frowning:

Have a day!

Drive by…

Thanks for the thoughts!

If I hadn’t been so crazy with work this week I would have been knocking on the door of idiots-r-us-heating as well as the Attorney General, BBB and the warranty people. I did send an e-mail complaint last night.

doggio HELL YEAH!

I think I’ll make Rice Crispy Squares for lunch. With dulce de leche.

Anyone want one?

hell, yeah!

Mmm, dulce de leche. Some cruel person brought in Dutch licorice, including the double-salted kind, which we only discovered by tasting. Bleargh.

What color do you think of when you hear dessicated? Rowan Yarn has some very strange names for yarn, but Dessicated? Shouldn’t it be brown and dusty?

I’ve heard from the firm’s leave team. Basically, I need to sign a request for a personal leave of absence, they’ll inactivate me as an employee, and then bill me for insurance coverage while I’m out. My job is not protected. In case I haven’t mentioned it, this really, really sucks. And I’m really scared. I’m scared that some or all of this is being caused by something physical. I’m going to get my labwork done this weekend, and the ultrasound is on Monday, so I guess I’ll know more then. I hate waiting.

:: blush ::

That’s the first time anyone ever told me that! (Even though you really didn’t. ;)) Congrats on the wedding!

Licorice is teh EVIL! Nasty stuff.

Yay for RigsDaughter!

rigs, I put up the plastic wrap stuff over the windows and already I can feel the difference. We should have done this a long time ago. Ah well. The worst of winter is yet to come, so I suppose I’ve put it up in time. Our cats aren’t very happy about it though, since windowsills have now gotten narrower. I hope Olive doesn’t eat the wrap.

I’ve tidied most of the house and am taking a breather before I tidy my room and then vacuum. I really hope Cloud Maiden gets a proper job soon - I think the reason the house is so messy is that she works from home and it involves a lot of paperwork, which results in scrap paper and other random bits of stuff strewn around her chair for a five feet radius. :: shakes head ::

Upon reflection, I am hungry. Must eat before finishing cleaning.

Wha?

You mean someone listened to MY advice? Get out of here! Glad it helped. Now, if only you would pay attention when it comes to your love life…

I remember really being able to tell a difference when we used those shrink wrappy thingies, too. Forget the cats-they’ll cope. Let’s hope the gas bill comes down–Feb is traditionally the coldest month.
I am back from court where the bailiffs must live out every hostile fantasy they have daily. I’ve never met such mean people! You must face forward at all times, you must not put your hands on the back of the benches (the ones we were sitting in, not The Bench), no talking, no gum chewing, no cell phones, no breathing. Ok, I made that last one up. I have no problem being civil and respectful in court, but when badly streaked Blondie tells me to not touch the back of the bench, while she’s massaging her pistol–I have to put a finger out and just touch…

Also heard quite a few horror sob stories in probate court today (we were clearing up some trust stuff for Daughter since she’s now 18). Grandmas who look 35 raising grandkids…they were all asked the same questions:

nature of relationship (maternal or paternal–there were no paternal)
do they rent or own
are they employed
any other source of income besides job
how many bedrooms is home
does child have his or her own bed.

It was depressing as hell–and made us all very grateful for what we have. Daughter’s eyes were like saucers.

The one that broke our heart was the 21 year old auntie taking over guardianship of her 11 year old niece. God love 'em both. :frowning:

Still sick. Here is my game plan: take a nap. If still feel like death after nap, call in sick for work tomorrow.

Thank you all for your good wishes and congratulations for Daughter. I hope Shadow and Pie get things worked out as well.
Oh, and Maruchan Instant Lunch sucks. I bought the wrong thing–I thought I grabbed a box of Ramen and got this instead. Hate it. Blech. I have it on the best authority that chocolate is very good for bad colds. (hint, hint).

Also, LiLi–I bought chocolate marshmallow Hershey’s kisses (which are terrible), but I bet they’d be great in Rice Krispie Treats. I have no marshmallows, though. :frowning:

Okay, I was going to go eat, but then Olive decided she was going to take a nap. In my lap. I can’t tell if she’s purring or if my stomach’s growling.

just got “THE” call - performance and party are postponed until next Thursday.

Now all I have to worry about is getting home - the mess from the sky has turned to sleet, which means slippery roads! yuck! [whimper]

OK, whoever pointed me to The Pioneer Woman is responsible for a lot of time spent not doing work that should be getting done!

Sounds like everyone needs hugs this week so {{{MMP}}}, esp. mmmmmmms and Shadow and CutiePie and rigs. And everyone else too.

Good luck getting home rosie. Drive carefully!

Remember how I said I screwed up something major like 2 weeks ago? Well, I think we’re finally done straightening it out. This kind of thing has happened before so you’d think we’d know how to fix it, but the woman who did a LOT of the fixing left about 3 weeks ago so the rest of us were left trying to figure out her very large piece of the clean up process. Bleh.

There’s a marketing department pot luck tomorrow at work so I’m making that same chocolate - raspberry torte thing that I made last weekend. It was really good. And really pretty easy. And everyone ooohed and aaahed over it. I love relatively easy-to-make but fancy-looking cakes.

Home, cold, and tired. Today was a major *meh * day, with one exception. **FCD ** is getting his new toy. Our credit union is amazing. I did an on-line loan application last night, and had to wait a whole 60 seconds for the approval. Then this morning, a loan officer called me at work, then called FCD, then got all the info about the car that she needed. I stopped by on my way home and got 2 papers we need to sign, and if I get them back to her tomorrow morning, the money will be in our account tomorrow afternoon. Meanwhile, **FCD ** worked a deal with the dealer - he’s bringing the car home today. And none too soon, it appears - it did something weird and disturbing when he was driving to work. I just hope he gets it to the dealer before it melts down.

Downside - it’s a 2-seater, and we’ve now got a 4-year loan. Upside, the payment is less than the current loan, the car has over 100,000 fewer miles on it, and it’ll make **FCD ** happy. I still think sports cars are silly, but it’s not my car, is it?

We got yet another email about our pay raises today - since we’re no longer GS employees, we have to actually compute what we’ll get. Well, the first time I ran my numbers, I came up with a 20% raise!!  It didn’t seem right, and it wasn’t right. I was comparing base rate before with base rate plus locality pay after, and since the current locality adjustment for this area is 19.73%, that explains the magnitude of the error. I had to make some assumptions, but I think in the end, my take-home goes up about $100 biweekly, tho I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a bit less. No doubt, I’ll be bumped over some tax withholding threshhold, because that’s just the way it works, right?

I’m going to do a rotisserie chicken for supper, so as soon as I feed the critters, I’ll dig out the rub and the olive oil, and get that cooking. And as it happens, I bought some generic rice crispies yesterday, and I have some marshmallows, so there’s dessert. And speaking of leftovers (hush) - yesterday while I was jurying, the command had their pot luck lunch, and there was a bunch of stuff left over, including a pile of ham bones. I grabbed two! *BEAN SOUP THIS WEEKEND!!! * Plus I had some of the leftover ham for lunch - yum!

I’m thinking I may wrap gifts tonight. We don’t have a lot, but it still needs to be done. I should also do a load of laundry - it’s really nice to do a load or 2 every day or so - no more 6-7 load Saturdays! And the kitchen needs tidying, as usual. Where are the Kitchen Elves when you need them??

MamaTigs ** - regarding your observation about DC drivers and the weather - *NO ST, Sherlock!!* People around our nation’s capitol join the Collective of Idiocy when the first weather guesser whispers the word snow - like it’s so terrible to, oh, I dunno, slow down a bit and leave a little space between you and the car ahead?

OK, I’ve exceeded my allotment of smilies, so I’ll quit now. Almost Firday - yay!

Yay for rigsdaughter!

Supper tonight is grilled hamsteaks, scalloped N.O.T. and steamed fresh aspergas. YUM!!! Oh and biscuits. The frozen kind. I’ll bake 'em cause ya know they’re kinda hard to eat when they’re frozen. I was gonna do bbq sammiches again but decided we needed sump’n new, so the bbq has been frozen to be pulled out and uded in the next few weeks when bbq sammiches sound good again.

That is all for now.

I love Ree. My ambition is to try making every reicipe on her blog. Her lasagna has made me the most popular girl around these parts.

Just got a package from my mom, full of Christmas decorations. Like an idiot I teared up - it’s hard being so far away from her. And, you know, my parents aren’t getting any younger, and since I’m planning to stay here and they’re planning to stay there … sigh.

Banana nut muffins are in the oven. I decided to be adventurous and add cinnamon and nutmeg to the batter. We’ll see how they turn out.

To go out drinking tonight, or to stay in with cats? Hm.
