Or just get one or all of the Bob Rivers Twisted Christmas CDs
My favorites are this one and the Chimney song, for which I could not find an .mp3 on line, sorry.
I love you!!! (Well, not like that, but still.) I can put both paper and mail on hold on-line! Yay!!! I don’t leave till December 28th, but already checked these items off my list. Don’t know why I hadn’t thought to check if you could do the mail-hold thing on-line earlier. Is it bad that I trust the on-line hold more than I trust the one I send through the Postal Service?
Here’s another good on you, Rebo!
We’re supposed to start getting snow in the next hour or so and then it’s supposed to turn to a wintry mix (oh joy!), so I’m thinking I might go out and run errands now…
Back soon.

First, thank ye so much, Haze, for sharing the link for the cookie recipe; it looked like you meant to include it in the other post. BTW, I love those Pioneer Woman recipes–she’s very thorough and does she always include pics of all the steps like that? It’s great! Huh, she’s the one with those cinnamon/sugar/butter heart attack muffins too, right?! laughs
I’m finally up and caffeinating, after staying up -way- too late last night - playing Super Granny 4!! I’ve got grocery shopping to do as well as some Christmas shopping–the forecasters are saying that storm won’t start until around 4-5 PM, so hopefully I’ll get everything done and be warm and cozy inside when it does.
Thanks, FCM, for giving me new lyrics to “Winter Wonderland!” Our holiday party at work is on Wednesday–the Mexican Feast. It’s going to be catered and will include steak and chicken fajitas, tacos, Mexican-themed appetizers… I’m not sure exactly what else, but we’re all supposed to bring desserts. I’ll take in some cookies as I usually do. Quite a few of my co-workers (in my division) will already be on leave, though. After our lunch, we open up the party to practically anyone else (LOL) and we’ll also have a band playing - several co-workers are part of a RL band and they’re very good! Should be a great time.
I’m back. Made it to Jo-Ann’s for some holiday stuff I needed AND some buttons. Also to Burlington Coat Factory to get a replacement raincoat with removable lining. I’ve been wearing my current one for more than 10 years (close to 15, I think) and, although I still love it, it’s starting to look a bit ratty. Couldn’t find anything even close to it in color (it’s this really pretty almost purple dark blue), so I went with basic black. Only had to shell out $50, so I’m pretty happy.
It started to snow while I was on the way home and got slippery quite fast. Fortunately I wasn’t too far away, so I made it home safely. Now it’s back to clean-up mode. Then it’ll be time to bake heart-attack muffins and make bourbon balls.
We’re having our holiday lunch at work on Wednesday, too, tarra. We’re going out to a fancy restaurant that none of us has ever been to. Should be fun.
Off to clean and decorate.

Blah, I’m supposed to look at cars with my adopted parents/neighbors today (Adopted Mom’s brother owns a used car dealership). I feel like death on the stove, though. I guess the sudden release of a semester’s worth of stress has finally caught up with me (along with the rum-an-coke I had last night to celebrate). I think I’ll stay home and bone up on Puerto Rican history instead.
There’s a hope of rain this afternoon! Glee!
Hullo, everybody. Apparently I have been pushing too hard this week; I went to bed early last night and slept for 12 full hours! Papa Tigs has some kind of bug; he’s about to go back to bed and stay there this afternoon. Which he never does unless he’s really sick. Here’s hoping it’s not contagious!
We’re being total Christmas humbugs this year, except for a few presents. Thanks for the link to those Bob Rivers Twisted Christmas CDs, though, Rosie – it reminded me of our favorite New Orleans band, which has a Christmas CD with such delights as “The Twelve Yats of Christmas,” “O Little Town of Destrehan,” and “Norris the Nocturnal Nutria.” Okay, they’re all in-jokes, but they’re funny in-jokes. I see he’s now turned his original CD into side K (as in pre-Katrina) and has added a side B with such delights as “I Think I Just Seen Elvis in the Mildew On My Walls,” which made me rush out and order it for Papa Tigs. Plus his Mardi Gras CD, titled after one song, “Ain’t No Place to Pee on Mardi Gras Day.” (And ain’t THAT the truth!) So that finished up my shopping for Papa Tigs, who is HARD to shop for. I also bought him some clothes – a lovely cotton/cashmere sweater and turtlenecks in the same color palette to wear with it and other of his sweaters. Maybe not fancy, but getting him to buy clothes for himself is NOT easy; he’ll buy slacks when his old ones are literally raggedy, but it took throwing out some 15-year-old underwear to get him to buy himself new. Men!
Anyway, since I went to bed instead of getting anything constructive done last night, I guess I should be good for at least a few hours today. Oh, joy.
BioRosie, that’s just sick and disgusting! Thanks!
I want cookies.
Yes, Ree is supremely unconcerned with trivialites such as blood pressure and obesity. All her recipes have pictures and commentary. So far I’ve tried the cinnamon rolls, lasagna, Christmas cookies, dinner rolls, beans and cornbread, shimp pasta, bacon and jalapeno appetizers, and and chicken casserole from her website. The lasagna and bacon-jalapeno appetizers have convinced my friends I am the queen of the kitchen.
I have three pages to translate and a green bean dish to make (also from the Pioneer Woman’s blog!) before 6pm, when I haul myself over to New England Gentleman’s place for our party. I’m trying to decide whether I want to dress up a little in red and green or just throw on some jeans and Christmas be damned. Princess sent me an email asking me to bring my FLAT IRON (she’s going over to NE Gentleman’s place directly from the airport).
I’ve decided not to bake any more cookies (sorry swampy :D). There will probably be an overflow of desserts at the party, as there always is. In hindsight I should have made another meal dish, but whatever. The only reason my friends eat at parties is so they have something to soak up all the alcohol they consume.
I’ve done this several times in the past with absolutely no problems. And when my mail service resumes, it’s always wrapped in a copy of the temporary stop order. Very convenient, especially because the PO that’s half a mile from me isn’t mine - I have to go all the way into Mechanicsville, which is about 5 miles or so. The Helen PO is just for dropping off as well as for a few folks with boxes. I don’t understand it - I just accept it.
I wish I could take credit for swampy’s link to the lyrics - that just cracked me up. I’d love to sing it for the inlaws, but it doesn’t work with a female singing it. Wonder if I could persuade FCD???
Speaking of whom, he’s washing my car! It’s barely above freezing, but he’s out there washing my dirty little Scion. Of course, that’s after he’s washed *his * brand new toy, but still… He’s so funny when he gets a new car - gotta wash and wax it right away. And after we had breakfast this morning, we had to go find him a cup holder - found a really cool one - it slips between the console and the passenger seat, so when he’s driving alone, which is most of the time, he has a place for his cup and his phone and stuff like used napkins or toothpicks. Then when I’m in the car, he just needs to toss the holder thingie in the back.
I’m still not crazy about the car, but I’m learning how to get into and out of it without killing myself. And I’ve discovered if I scoot the seat forward about 2", I can sit with my knees slightly flexed rather than stretched out - it makes a real difference in comfort.
We’ve been to the trash/recycling center and the seat is back in the van. I need to vacuum it, I think, because it’s pretty gross. Sure hope the van has one more Florida trip left in it. Fortunately, we’re not towing, and the vast majority of the trip is interstate, so it’s set the speed and go - that’s like the easiest on the engine and transmission anyway, right? We shall see.
Second load of laundry is in. I just made the box and ring off this site with the money we’re giving our Florida nephew. Lots cooler than mere bills in an envelope, ya think??
Well, off to finish wrapping. And I may make a chocolate cake today, just because. What better way to warm a chilly house??
I’ve run out of sugar. Not surprising, considering the amount of cooking I’ve done this week.
I’ve forgotten how much I HATE translating Korean into English. The syntax is all different and for some reason Korean tends towards longer sentences, so I have to jump all around the sentence and rearrange the word order before I can translate, but half the time I lose my place in the middle and have to start all over again. And my cigarette intake always goes up drastically whenever I take on a translating job. Grumble.
And now it’s snowing outside. Not in a pretty way, in a windy, icy way.
I’m bored. Between calls I’m bored, during them it’s scary because every single person wants something different! And during the one where I knew what to do, the computer decides to act up and not process a deposit. I think it did that to taunt me – how dare I think I’m getting the hang of any of this? Or something like that.
Well, snowbunny, if it was easy, they wouldn’t call it work.
I just put a chocolate cake in the oven. Third load in the washer - I’ll probably just do one more today. It’s dreary and cold and perfect for napping, if I was a napper. With luck, I’ll sleep well tonight. Kahlua might help… Yeah, it might.
Hulloooo…
Big fire last night, but not story-worthy. Also, it was my first arson: a vacant house in foreclosure goes up in flames under very questionable circumstances. I was out 0330-0600, and it was cold. Brrrr.
Operation Santa is tonght. More rotting of kid’s teeth.
Carry on.
Drive by. Boos, Yays, etc… as appropriate. Past 11:30 PM and I have to be up by 7 tomorrow morning (kids’ school, work, Monday in all but name…)
Hopefully more tomorrow!
Night, y’all!
Just a quickie -
Sean, ya’ll make a cute couple.
And a belated Happy Anniversary to the FairyChats!
PaleRabbit, in a few weeks you will look back on these first weeks and laugh at how stressed you were. Things that almost had me in tears the first few weeks are a snap now.
Either Mr. SCL has to get some help for his snoring, or we are going to have to buy a new waterbed. I don’t mind the sofa or the four-poster during the summer, but in the winter I want my warm waterbed. I have only gotten about 4 hours sleep a night for the last two nights because of snoring and I cannot work like that. I worked 8a-noon today and got a two hour nap when I got home - there is a Snakes game tonight - but I have to work 8a-3p tomorrow and I can’t do it on no sleep.
/bitch
Ya’ll have a nice day!
Surely you’ve heard it before?
My Doper Santa gift came today. monica knitted me a lovely fuzzy yarn scarf in several shades of blue. she also sent a lovely pair of silver toned earrings with a sky blue tiger eye drop in the middle (pictures later). and she sent a little fuzzy snowman plushie - which smokey is currently investigating.
I hope so, SCL. Though I’m not as stressed out as I thought I’d be. If people would just quit calling in wanting New Year’s reservations. Ain’t happening. They’re about a year too late (and I’m not exaggerating by much!).
Really, it’s not that I don’t care, it’s that I’m too lazy/tired/cranky/blah to have much to say.
Uh, lessee…
The child and I did our annual Dad/Daughter Christmas shopping trip last night. It was good. The night usually consists of dinner (Maggianos this year), followed by a concentrated, efficient burst of shopping (always Oakbrook) and then home. This Christmas, being the first time she’s of legal age, we met many (AJ, Phil, Mary, Lauren, Koz, Clancy, Megan and Megan’s boyfriend, Steve, Nick, Mary’s neighbor Hannah that Phil has a crush on but whom AJ and I decided is just trying too hard, in a trashy - way too much makeup kind of way, some guy I don’t know, and Laura, the Kid’s roomie) of her friends at an establishment of beerverages afterwards. Four of us there have December birthdays (mine’s Monday the 17th…hint hint…) so it was decided to meet for that.
Wife and I did some more shopping today, now are home.
I’m not going to bother shoveling this mess until morning, when it’s all done.
Tonight will be a quiet, popcorn/fire in the fireplace kind of night I think.
Probably no beer though, I believe it’s ALL gone now.
PS: Haze, could you slip some cookie love my way through the CD drive? Thanks.
I haven’t cried this hard in a while.
Damn onions.
Gooooooood supper - leftover chickie, fresh cornbread, peas-n-carrots, and a fresh chawklit cake for later. Yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm
