Maggiano’s? oh…[sub]maggiano’s…just about Rig’s fav place to eat in the whole world, if you discount that Paris bistro…[/sub] said with a woeful yearning.
Sigh. I had leftover pasta. Blech.
And work was whiney, whiney people. Here’s headline news: SURGERY HURTS!!!
 Not feeling Tiny Tim today–much more Ebeneezer.
I need to get some sleep. The Husband has my cold and he already snores BEFORE he’s congested. I am better cold wise today. Just my crabby self.
Poor Papa Tigs has had a nasty headache all day, and he finally crawled in bed for a nap. Of course, he didn’t tell me he was going, so I couldn’t ask him if he’d fed the Idiots. So they ended up getting supper rather late. Not that they noticed; they were both snoring so hard we could have dropped a couple bombs and not woken them up, I suspect.
So now we’ve got (belated) rice cooking and will be having leftover gumbo for supper. Mmmmm…leftover gumbo. Which is the only thing there is that’s better than newly made gumbo! Gumbo is definitely a dish that ages well. Although it’s better to keep the crawfish (or other seafood components) separate and only add them the last few minutes before serving – but even if you don’t, it’s still just about the best thing going. Damn, I’m making myself hungry just thinking about it!
The weather front has arrived that’s had all the weathermen practically peeing their pants with anxiety since they don’t really know whether it’s going to end up really, really bad or really, really not much. I don’t mind the bad part if it’s just snow, but the chances of ice are pretty bad. Although mostly for folks west of us; here on the Bay we should mostly just have rain. Theoretically. We shall see. It’s still far enough above freezing that the drips outta the sky are still unfrozen. I’d prefer they stay that way if they’re not going to turn into snowflakes!
I spent the afternoon puttering, as in not doing much of anything. It was lovely! I should do this more often.
FCM, I didn’t know you had a Scion, which one? I just got an xB a couple of months ago and I LOVE it.
TVMan and I are stranded here in Akron for the night. I picked him up for a family Christmas party that we were going to but it got cancelled on our way in due to the weather. The drive that normally takes us 50 minutes took 2 1/2 hours!!!
I’m off to bed soon since I didn’t get to bed until 3:30 this moring.
Hi MBG! Nice to see you actually stop by. No being blah allowed, by the way.
Surgery hurts? I had no idea.
Mmmmm, gumbo sounds divine. And chocolate cake - yumm…
Found my password book, which had crawled in among some paper. (I’m paranoid, so I don’t actually write down my passwords, but there’s enough info so that I know what I’m talking about.) It was driving me nuts because I had trouble logging into my cell phone account. Not sure why I was having trouble - I was using the right password. I guess the Web site was having issues when I tried it last time. Or maybe my keyboard??? Hope not. Good news is that my phone plan has remained the same (I’m cheap and wanted my fancy new phone, but same old plan). Bad news is that I really need to get a new book and start over. Lots of accounts in there that I don’t use anymore and accounts whose names have changed.
Looked at ordering cool nylon scrubbies to replace the one I’ve been using for several years. Best scrubber ever. Decided they seem easy enough to make. I haven’t crocheted anything in ages and ages, but it’s not hard and I figure it’s worth giving it a try.
Oy vey, do we get the rich and snobby calling. One woman wouldn’t even give me the chance to look up her information (you see, she’s been coming here forever and blah blah blah) and another demanded I talk to the hotel manager about putting her on a wait list because he’d make sure she was on it. We don’t have one, for anybody. She was also yelling at her housekeeper in the background…well, housekeeper or kid, but I suspect housekeeper, as did the person above my head I ended up sending her to because she had some really complicated requests, beyond just being a snobbish bitch. (“I could write my name in that dust!” I’d have told her what she could do with the job, honestly.)
Let’s hope tomorrow goes better. At least one of the other reservation people is this really cute Peruvian guy who has enough of an accent for it to be really rather sexy, though his English is really good. I should work on my Spanish. He’s only a bit younger than I am, it wouldn’t even be cradle-robbing! g
Leftover gumbo? MamaTigs, you are torturing me! Now I have to figure out whether I can make some gumbo, maybe the next time I get paid. I think I can, though I’m not sure I can afford crawfish for it…I bet I can get it, but it’ll be pricey by the time it gets flown up here.
They say there’s a good chance of snow tonight, an inch or so. I no longer believe them, because every time they say that, it doesn’t happen. When it’s not supposed to happen, apparently, is when we get two feet. The mountains make weather prediction up here…interesting.
You can always make chicken and sausage gumbo, snowbunny**; it’s far less expensive, and just as yummy. Do you need me to send you a can of Tony Chachere’s instant roux? It’s useful for all kinds of stuff, if not gumbo. Papa Tigs couldn’t find any locally last year, so when I found it online he suggested I just order a box of it. So now we have enough instant roux for at least 20 lifetimes.
Come to think of it, remind me to pass you along a can next time I see you, FCM. It’s great seasoning in all kinds of food – adds a lovely spice flavor without heat. And heaven knows we’ll never use it all up before it goes bad!
Um… We here in the Windy City seem to be under some sort of snow attack. When last I checked the weather (ok, this morning at 0450) we were supposed to get scattered snow showers. It’s coming down thick and fast out there–
YAY!
Just watched HP2. No idea why I’m on an HP kick–mostly because I’m too lazy to go to the library–and now it’s snowed in.
I do need to forage for food tomorrow. I also need to buy crab legs for Xmas Eve din-din. Yum!
Let me look, but I’m pretty sure I saw roux at one of the stores around here, because I thought, “Hey! I need to get that sometime!” One of the little things that assured me I wasn’t leaving civilization, moving up here.
I know I could do chicken and sausage, but you know me and crawfish. Yummmm…
FCM, as far as baking goes, I have yet to beat a batch of cupcakes I made when I was about nine. Let me tell you, those were goooooood. I’d put them up against your chocolate cake any day, though I’m sure your cake is excellen
I am amused by the Google ads again. “Keep your baby entertained while drinking” is the first line of one of them. (The rest of it isn’t funny, but that first line amuses me.) Yeah, I can see needing to do that, at least on a few occasions, with a baby around…
Morning all. Long weekend here for National Day. No work until Tuesday, then the rest of the week off for Eid al Adha (the Eid after Hajj), then back to work the following Monday (24th) before I am off for the rest of that week for Christmas. Then the following week we have a public holiday for New Year’s Day, etc. etc.
Rigs, the paramedic says something about going to see a man with a “hurty knee”, then in response to the woman’s question about her cold, he says, “Have you ever heard of Lemsip?”
HRH has a bad cough right now. No real head cold, just a very wheezy, wet cough. Sigh! She’s probably not helping things right now by constantly “singing” at the top of her lungs!
Okay, off to sort this chicky out and try to get her to have a nap!
They may have roux up there, snowbunny, but do they have it in giant economy-sized cans?
I’ll second the vote for your cupcakes when you were 9, too. Those were not only incredibly good, but you mixed and baked and decorated them all by yourself for a school event, and when I took them in your teacher was quite stunned that (a) you could bake and (b) I’d let you. Heck, it was a lot easier to turn you loose in the kitchen (with supervision primarily when you were dealing with a hot oven) and let you cook all the stuff for school than have to do it myself!
But the birthday cake you made for me when you were 7 or so that was nicely seasoned with eggshells was probably not your best effort. Although you may recall we all happily crunched on the eggshells and assured you it was still delicious. Ah, the things we do as parents.
I’m off to catch some beauty sleep. Or something. At least it’s staying warm enough here that we shouldn’t get any ice. This pleases everybody.
Rigs… I think we must be temporally joined or something, because we broke out HP2 at home yesterday, as well.
Plus, I know have your sexy voice (only an additional octave or so lower yet, I’d guess…) Yeah, I’ve still got that stupid cold.
**Haze **-- I like your determination. Walking through sleet and snow in the middle of the night for an important cause.
Now get some sleep
**SnowBunny **-- I feel your pain. Entitled Rich Bitches are the lowest form of life on this planet…
Dotty Enjoy your vacation! Can you continue your Job Hunt during this period, or are all the offices completely closed?
We don’t normally get Christmas off, so we’re making our own vacation (just taking vacation days, my wife and I. And the Terrible Twins’ school can make as much noise as they want about our pulling them for a week…)
Appropriate emotions to anybody else too far back down the page…
Taking Special Teen back to Jerusalem today after her week-long Hanukkah break. She’s take the bus, but the school (wisely) designated today as Parents-Teacher individual meeting day, so I get to hear how terribly she’s doing at school (like, she may be in danger of an A- or even ::shock:: a B+ in one or two subjects) – and she gets a free ride in the bargain.
Yes, I’m bragging, why do you ask?
Afternoon (After-noone?) actually. 12:30 PM already. Where did my morning go!? Time flies when you’re having fun!
ETA: Actually, it was still technically morning here when you posted… you win that one, I guess
You’re enjoying rolling it on your tongue… admit it!
Less, actually… Will be online last time your Thursday afternoon or so.
So make good use of the time you have left with me…
Good Mornin Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. It’s all dreary and bleh lookin’ outside. Yesterday afternoon and last night we had a bunch 'o rain, which is a good thing down here in the drought stricken area. There should be more today, I hope. Oh and tonight it’s gonna get down to 28 Amurrkin degrees. If it does, that will be for only the second time this season it’s gotten below freezing. The first time was about mid November.
