What foods and drinks do you NOT eat simply because of it’s TASTE or SMELL?
I have never eaten tuna. The ground-up type that usually comes in a can. I don’t like the smell, period. The scent knocks me off my feet. I will eat Ahi Poke’ which is prepared more like raw fish with some Soy Sauce and/or peppers.
I avoid all raw fish besides Ahi Poke’. I’ve tried a couple of them but the taste is too much for me.
Dark chocolates. Too sweet.
Black coffee. I just can’t do it!.. I’m a wimp. The taste is too strong.
Possum
Tuna
Any “prepared” dish that you microwave, especially the low-cal pastas (like the Marachina (sp) brand). To me, they smell like burnt preservatives.
I’m with singular1. I don’t eat the things I don’t eat because I either don’t like their taste or smell or both. That said, for years I refused to even taste braunschweiger liver sausage because of the smell. Finally, my husband persuaded me to hold my breath and try it. Now I love the stuff and the smell doesn’t bother me at all.
Funny. I have no sense of smell and I like the taste of most stuff. All my disliked foods are disliked because either I don’t like the way they look (ketchup) or hate the texture (water chestnuts, okra).
I love sushi, but I have never been able to eat most cooked fish. I have always puzzled over what it is about the ‘fishy’ flavour that makes me gag. There is something that just immediately signals my stomach to retch as soon as that taste/smell hits my senses.
To me, canteloupe smells exactly like garbage. But that’s not the reason I don’t eat it. I don’t eat it because I don’t like the taste. I eat other things that smell like garbage, like wonderful stinky cheeses, because I like the taste.
Foie Gras/pate. I went out to an upscale tapasy restaurant recently where it came as part of the appetizer sampler. I put just the tiniest smidge on my piece of toasted bread and tried it (for the first time…I just had general grossness objections to organ meats) and it was honestly one of the worst flavours I’d tasted in my life. I had to discreetly take a napkin out of my purse and spit it out, it was that bad. Then I had to drink several glasses of water.
I am not very adventurous when it comes to meat, however-part of which is that I come from a strictly pescatarian/vegetarian culture.
I must be missing something. Why else would you not eat something, except for its taste or smell?
I suppose there are a few foods I avoid because their texture bothers me or they look funny, but a list of things I don’t eat because of their taste or smell is pretty much a list of all of the things I don’t eat.
