Example:
The Polyphonic Spree uses (IIRC) 24 different instruments to make semi-orchestral sounding arrangements of songs about sunlight and happiness.
StrongBad makes music in several genres, all based on inside jokes, intended purely to make you laugh. Most of it is done on some guys home computer, AFAIK.
Either of these could be considered kind of the opposite of Radiohead, who uses guitar, drums, bass, and computerized clicks and other random sounds to make dark, strange music.
And I like all three of them. What movies/bands/songs/TV shows/whatever do you like, even though they are absolutely nothing like each other?
Two of my favorite things in life are profesional wrestling and musical theatre, not that they are neccesarily opposite…i’ve just yet to find someone else who shares both intrests. Sometimes i feel my tastes in entertainment are very odd, when i’m deciding between a kick ass action movie and a sappy romantic comedy…i’m torn.
I’ll have to say different types of girls. You can take just about any characteristic, and bring it to its opposite, and both will be attractive to me. I’ll look at a tall girl and think “mmm” and then see a short girl and say ‘oooh.’ Big boobs, small boobs. Almost anything, as long as she’s not fat (beyond ‘chubby’, which looks good on certain girls) and has clear skin.
I love movies! And it doesn’t matter what genre, as long as they’re good. Some of my favorites - The Breakfast Club, Gangs of New York, Kill Bill, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Truth About Cats & Dogs and Under The Tuscan Sun.
As for music, here are my personal favorites - Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath, Garbage, Men Without Hats, Roy Orbison, and Tegan & Sara.
I listen mostly to hard rock music, but when the mood strikes and I want to relax I’ll listen to instrumental (sometimes called “new age”) music.
As for movies, I like a lot of action movies (“guy” movies-- you know, lots of 'splosions and shooting and guns and car chases and loud noises and everything), but I also like a lot of Disney fare, and I appreciate good comedies, too. The polar opposite, the “chick flick”, I could pass on, though.
I quite like Eva - O who sings Christian Goth music, does that count as liking opposites?
I also think Cheddar Cheese and Strawberry Jam sandwiches are very nice.
Futurama is an animated cartoon with a lot of math and science jokes, and complex plots. MXE is an overdubbed Japanese Game Show with a lot of sex humor and people getting hurt in comical ways. I like 'em both.
Lojban is a logical auxlang designed by a group of people partly for communication with computers. Quenya is a Welsh-like artlang designed by one person for a literary work. I like 'em both.
