Things you like to eat/drink that others can't stand

Schenkerla Rauchenbier.

Prior to brewing, the malts are smoked over an alder fire. Giving the beer a nice smoky taste reminiscent of Black Forest ham, but without the porkiness.

I had some friends taste it at the Brickskeller here in DC, and they have dubbed it “meat beer”. They think it’s like a baloney milkshake. I think it’s nummy.

Another vote for liver. Love the stuff.

And as a side dish, some lima beans. Canned or frozen.

It’s been years since I’ve had beef tongue, but I’d like to try it again.

VEGEMITE!

Bingo on the Vegemite, but with cheese.
Hard or soft, spread or cut, hard to beat.

I know a lot of people think it’s presence on pizza is unnatural and evil, but I like pineapple on pizza (or in a calzone) with Canadian bacon or pepperoni.

BTW Bernse, ever trythis?

Another anchovy eater here. My husband will eat any canned fish on the market, sardines, anchovies, herring in any form, baby smoked oysters, etc.

–Ya don’t steam it. Ya stew it with tomatoes.

Then ya break out the black-eye peas and cornbread

My sweetie can’t stand olives; I couldn’t bear to live without them. Especially good kalamata olives on homemade pizza, with feta cheese and roast garlic…drool.

I read once that the single most-hated food in the US is tofu. Eh? That’s like hating chicken, or hating rice. It’s great stuff.

And good roquefort cheese is a sacrament. Especially in potato salad: use yellow finn potatoes, not too much mayo, balsamic vinager, celery, onions, lots of herbs, and a big fat chunk of roquefort. And, of course, kalamata olives. Joy!

Raw clams and oysters. I love them. Once in Las Vegas I ate like 15 oysters at a buffet. Then I got home and discovered pregnant women should avoid raw shellfish, and yes, I was pregnant at the time. Oh, well, no harm done.

Oh yes! I used to munch on that stuff by the mouthful. I can’t find it in the city I live in now, though. I have to stock up when I go to the “big” city

Great stuff! Someone actually makes a triple-salted as well. I’ve tried it but can’t remember it being much different. It’s kind of tough to get at most places in Canada.

My sister-in-law the corn freak makes vanilla ice cream with brown sugar and adds cream corn to it. I’ve had it, and it’s not bad–sort of like washing down popcorn with a vanilla milk shake.

Well, so far nobody named anything I don’t/won’t eat. Although I don’t especially care for vegimite, and limberger, I do like blue cheese, roquefort, and gorganzola.

I’ll toss in the pickled pig’s feet and hocks, kim chee, eel, fermented soy beans (I had it in Japan and I think it’s called, “nato”), tripe, kidney stew, and steak tar-tar.

For you cavier lovers, try some on your baked potato along with the butter and sour cream.

People don’t like Red Bull? Almost everyone I know loves it. I do too, especially mixed with vodka. Mmm… caffeine-laden alcohol!

Then again, I’ll happily eat 'most anything. Chicken’s feet, liver, anchovies, they’re all good stuff. I’ll drink just about anything too. Shameful confession: if I’m feeling real cheap, I’ll buy red wine or very dark beer, knowing my friends hate that stuff. I then cheerfully offer to share, confident that the booze is mine, all mine!

A couple people have already mentioned it, but most people turn their nose up at my Diet Mountain Dew obsession.

I also love to mix cottage cheese with the following items:

  • Apple Sauce
  • Chicken Broth
  • Mashed Potatoes

(not all at 3 once, but…hmmm, I might try that sometime!!)

Grosses people out for some reason, but tastes fine to me.

Most people dont like Campari. I can drink it straight on ice, although I prefer it with vodka and grapefruit juice.

OMG, no matter what it adds to the potato, I can’t see disposing of caviar (esp. black) in this fahion - it is toooo spensive.

Those who mentioned beef tongue, absolutely marvelous - pickled lightly and rubbed with garlic.

Vegemite; strong coffee with lots of milk and sugar; okra; boudin; shrimp (why did I marry this woman anyway! )

I used to live on these as a kid:

  • Weetbix smeared with A LOT of margarine and Vegemite. Mmmmm! The trick is to put lots of margarine on though, otherwise it will be too dry and get stuck down your throat.

But I’m an Aussie, and I guess we have to say we love Vegemite.

Dinte Moore straight outta the can. yummmmmmm

Onion sandwiches.

The best part of the chicken is the neck!
