Things you like to eat/drink that others can't stand

Preach it, baby. Noodles straight from the packet is a staple for the ultra-lazy. (Although since they are sold already deep-fried, strictly they’re not uncooked.) Good for hiking too - no need to boil water and less rubbish to carry in your bag.

Most of the friends I have up here don’t like iced tea! I love the stuff…it played in integral part in getting me to give up my Soda addiction.

I really like olive loaf. None of my roommates do. Other than that–anything spicy is pretty much also applicable. I grew up eating mexican foods with lots of peppers and stuff, and I think both of my roommates grew up eating oatmeal and mashed potatoes. I miss mexican food.

Widmer’s Lake Niagara Wine

I discovered this while living in uopstate NY and got addicted. Widmer’s has a huge winery in Naples, N.Y., on the Finger Lakes. They use the native American Labrusca grapes (as opposed to the European Vinifera grapes used by, say, Bully hill wineries, and all California wineries). The grapes have a heavy characteristic taste called “foxiness” (it’s what gives Welch’s Concord Grape Jam and Jelly their taste) that true wine aficionados hate, but which is inseparable from native American grapes like Concord, Catawba, Delaware, etc.

I love the taste. It’s not “sweet” (like Mogen David, or Manischewitz), but it is “fruity”. Definitely an acquired taste. My wife Pepper Mill thinks I’m nuts to like this. But I pick some up when I’m in a wine store on NJ or NY, or if I find the rare wine shop in MA that’s got it.

Okay, does ANYONE like sea urchin sushi?

My girlfriend and I ordered it once, and I swear it’s the nastiest thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. A brilliant orange slab of mucus, it looks and tastes as if Bugs Bunny hawked up a loogie and put it on a bed of rice. I’ve never been so afraid that I was going to vomit on my dinner plate.

It’s called Uni, I think. Do any of you like it? If so, for the sweet love of Mary, why?

Daniel

I like to lick, yes lick, the Cool Ranch Doritos. I don’t liketo eat them, just lick the ranchy goodness off of them and then throw them away. My boyfriend thinks it is nasty so I can only do it when I am home alone.

Besides my affinity for plain mayo sandwiches, I love the skin from the Thanksgiving turkey. I like to pull all the skin off when it’s hot from the oven. I hate the actual meat but ohh the skin, yummm.

I know it’s full of fat but hell it’s only once a year.

Honey

I do the same thing with the skin. Nummers! Also, with the leftover turkey, I make sandwiches that include Emmenthal cheese, leftover stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a ton of Miracle Whip.

Speaking of Miracle Whip, when I was little, I used to make cucumber sandwiches on plain white bread with a buttload of Miracle Whip. I think it was just an excuse to eat the Miracle Whip.

I also used to butter bread, sprinkle sugar on it, and broil it until it caramelized, then cut it into little fingers.

Now, I’m more into condiments. I adore Fruity HP Sauce, and put it on everything: steaks, potatoes… I even stir it into tomato-based soups (like Campbell’s Chunky Chicken Cacciatore) to wake up the flavour. Then I add a whole bunch of parmesan.

When I order chicken wings, I always get honey BBQ, and order extra blue cheese dip. I know the dip is for the veggies, but I dip the wings in, even though they’re sweet and tangy. Anyway, I only do this when alone.

I put ketchup on fast-food chicken sandwiches even though there’s already mayo. I also put extra ketchup on just about any kind of burger, including a Big Mac (in spite of the special sauce).

I love poutine - the national dish of Quebec. Fries, cheese curds, and gravy. Great for absorbing alcohol after a night of boozing.

I love Thousand Island dressing. I put macaroni or potato salad on regular green salads, dump on croutons, and a ton of TI dressing.

OK, now I’ve disgusted myself…

Grahm crackers covered in creamy peanut butter with a kraft single on top!

(YUM) I lived off that for 2 months in college

Rice and Ketchup (I did this also in college… because they served plain white rice with everything…)

Brocili (spelling!?) with BBQ sause…

Baked potatoe skin with BBQ sause

Salmon Loaf!!! MmMMMMMM

You use it for left over salmon… (Used to live in alaska… Fresh King or Silver was cheaper than beef at times) Crumble the fish, add a dash of bread crumbs, an egg and celery… cover it in white sause… YUM

My garlic bread  (more garlic than butter in the garlic butter… its too strong for most people to eat!)

uni. uni. uni. uni.

theres a joint here in town called ‘sushi zone.’ impeccable, top-notch, really exciting sushi, prepared by master chef peter.

twice now ive had the rare privilege to order live uni, not that out of the box stuff. harvested in monterey that morning, pried open by chef peter that evening.

perhaps the most exquisite thing ive ever put in my mouth. there are no words. cant eat the out of the box stuff any more.

uni. uni. uni. uni. ooooooooooooonnnnnniii…

I love…
anchovies
black licorice
garlic
onions
sardines
game meat (venison, quail, etc.)

I can’t stand…
tomatoes
mushrooms
red licorice

Foods I loathe

Tomatoes - I can choke them down cooked but raw? :gags:

Any animal milk - I was given goats milk as a small child and it ruined milk for me. I use soy milk on cereal but I never drink milk ever.

Foods I love

Asaparagus

Lima Beans

All seafood. Oysters, clams, calamari, octopus…

My favorite breakfast is oatmeal and string cheese. Not mixed together but eaten at the same meal. Carbs and calcium at the same time.

See, that implies that at some point you COULD eat the stuff out of the box. Didn’t you want to say, “Nyehhh…gesundheit, doc!” every time you saw it? Didn’t you feel like you were eating someone else’s phlegm?

Is it the flavor that appeals? The texture? How in heaven is it ever something that seems like food (assuming you aren’t a sea otter)?

I’ve been wondering this for over a year.
Daniel

I, too, love pineapple on pizza. What I don’t understand is that most people think I am weird for having to drink milk with my pizza. If I don’t have milk, I don’t want the pizza.

Aaaahhh! Yes! Pineapple on pizza! I like my pizza with pineapple, bacon (not ham), green peppers, onions, and extra cheese. A taste sensation.

Nobody named souse. I bet nobody likes souse.

I love sardines in mustard sauce. I don’t put them on toast, just salt and pepper them, then eat straight out of the can.

yeah, daniel, i did like it out of the box. it didnt taste so great a few times; im guessing that it wasnt that fresh; but when it was good, it was very good: briny, soft and semi-liquid, intensely and purely flavored. a great taste experience.

but then again, i eat everything, just about.

My favorite food is still toad-in-the-hole. The problem is, I live in the United States. On the other hand, it can be fun seeing people’s reactions to that. I also at a lot of Spam as a teenager and still like it, as well as hot dogs. (Yes, I do eat things other than pork).

I’m someone else who doesn’t like tomatoes, though. I’ve finally let a bottle of ketchup invade my apartment because tomorrow I’ll be making shrimp cocktail for a (very good friend), but it won’t be sticking around long.

CJ

I like to drink tonic water–all by itself. I also like cold brussels sprouts.

But I absolutely hate papaya. The smell alone makes me sick.

Take leftover rice, add one raw egg and a dribble of soya. Mix well. Yummmm.
